Granite

Granite is an excellent natural material ideal for countertops, floors, wall claddings, and other high traffic areas in residential and commercial spaces.

It is a timeless beauty that no man-made sur-face can match. The natural appeal of stone adds warmth, elegance, and richness to any room.

Slabs are available in a wide array of colors and textures, from light to dark, with swirls, accents, or fluid tones. This makes each piece of slab one of a kind.

The advantages of installing granite, however, goes beyond aesthetics.

A highly-durable natural stone, granite is hard enough to resist abrasion, strong enough to bear significant weight, and inert enough toresist weathering.

Some synthetic surfaces scratch easily. Gran-ite, on the other hand, surpasses the hardness of utensils, including knife blades, that are used on it. It will resist scratches from ordinary kitch-en preparations.

Since it is naturally formed through the con-stant pressure deep within earth, granite can withstand the heat of hot pots and pans with-out absorbing damage. Thus, it is much safer to use than its synthetic counterparts with resin and polyester because it does not melt, warp, or discolor when subjected to high temperature.

Ultimately, granite strikes the perfect balance between elegance and performance.

MarbleA classic and timeless choice for high-end kitchens, marble is elegance and sophistication combined.

Its exceptional beauty and inherent warmth make it a popular choice for many kitchen spac-es. Its visual appeal works well with both tradi-tional and modern taste.

Marble comes in hues of milky white, choco-late brown, coal-black, salmon pink, and emer-ald green, most having prominent veins while others with subtle patterns.

Despite the variety of colors available, white marble is the first choice for many kitchen countertops and vanity counters. Like a white button-down shirt, it is adaptable; mixing well with different styles and a wide variety of mate-rials such as stainless steel, wood, and tile. It can be dressed up with a polished finish, or made more casual with a honed surface.

For all its elegant beauty, marble does have its weaknesses.

Marble’s crystalline structure makes it suscep-tible to stains and sensitive to acidic solutions. It requires a periodic application of sealer for protection. Moreover, it can scratch easily so it is recommended that you use a cutting board during kitchen preparations.

This does not mean, however, that you shouldn’t consider marble for your kitchen. Many cus-tomers do. It just means taking a little more care of your countertop in every use.

If you love the look and if you think you can handle the extra upkeep marble requires, you really don’t have to think twice about having it inside your home.

Edge ProfilesEven the smallest detail can have a surprising effect on the look and function of your kitchen. Whether you are constructing a new home or renovating a kitchen, you will often find yourself stuck choosing between the many simplest choices you have to make. Although some may look unimportant at first, like deciding on a color or selecting the cabinet pulls, these decisions make all the difference. Your countertop’s Edge Profile, for instance, is one of the most overlooked features. It’s a small detail that makes a huge statement. The edge profile sets the tone on how your countertop will fit into the kitchen space as a whole. Not only does it add a subtle sense of style into the room, but it’s also a great way of personalizing your kitchen with nothing more than an edging detail.

Surface FinishingA stone’s natural appearance can be altered by applying any of the various types of surface fin-ishes.

The type of treatment used on a stone dictates its final color, texture, durability, and porosity. The array of available finishes allows us to use granite or marble in a wide range of applications, be it a countertop, flooring, or wall cladding. The following are the most commonly used fin-ishes for stones:

Polished Finish Honed Finish

Flamed Finish Bush hamered Finish

a. Polished- the smoothest and most reflec-tive among all types of surface treatments; b. Honed- creates a satin smooth finish minus the gloss;

c. Flamed- deeply textured surface ideal for outdoor applications needing slip resistance; d. Bush hammered- deeply textured, as well, but provides a more consistent feel than its torched counterpart.
