Stone Canyon Homeowner's Association Newsletter - March 2010 www.stonecanyonoa.org March 2010 Volume 5, Issue 3 Official Publication of Stone Canyon Homeowners Association Neighborhood Newsletter Letter from the President by Richard Horton March is here and soon nature will be shaking off the signs of winter. The grass will grow green, the Bluebonnets will cover the fields, and the Live Oaks will drop their winter leaves. In just a few weeks, it will April and we will reopen the Stone Canyon pool for the 2010 season. If you have been by the "Swim Center" these past few weeks, you already know that we have invested in renovating the pool this off-season. By the time you read this, the pool should be open and looking as good as new. Also, please remember that the Annual Meeting for the Stone Canyon Owner’s Association will be held Wednesday, April 7, 2010, at the Fern Bluff MUD Community Center at 6:00 PM. If you cannot attend, please send in your signed proxy form, which you will be receiving from Goodwin Management later this month. How-Do Neighbors, I'll bet some of you were wondering what happened to Greg's cheery, yet way too long newsletter articles? I'll bet some others of you were relieved not to see them for a couple of months. Well, I'm back!! We on the Pool Committee, Board, property management, and pool management companies have been up to a few things. We're in the process of renovating the pool bottom (YAY!!), the coping stones around the pool (YAY!!!), the outdoor shower (YIPEE!) , the pump room door and frame and the interiors of both restrooms at the pool (BIG YAY AND A YAHOO!!!!!!!). We've been wanting to make these renovations for some time now, and this year it's underway. These projects will address a lot of the concerns/complaints we have heard about the pool area, so we're pretty excited to get these going. What exactly is being done? Let's break it down: POOL: - replace coping stones (those cement blocks all around the pool at the water's edge) - replace the plaster bottom of the pool (it's dissolving slowly over the years) - replace the water line tile, depth marker tile, and race lane tile - patch several of the smaller deck cracks (more on the big deck repairs needed later) - repair the pool light timer switch RESTROOMS, SHOWER, PUMP ROOM, STORAGE ROOM: - new vanities, lighting fixtures, toilets, stall partitions, and sink fixtures - replace shower head, fix broken lines behind the wall, insulate the shower plumbing - replace the pump room door and frame - paint the storage room roof trusses, add an additional CCTV camera and conduit PICNIC AND DECK AREAS: - add a 6ft x 6ft pad around the BBQ grill - made from our old coping stones - add a small walkway from the permanent trash can to deck - replace the tall lifeguard chair with a lower one, similar to the existing shorter lifeguard chair We will try to get everything done by our usual April 1 opening date, but depending on the weather, we may not. Our pool company (Family Swim Gym) is going to approach these projects in phases, the first and most important of these is of course the pool itself, to get it ready for use as close to April 1, as possible. FSG has bent over backwards to accommodate the weekend and evening schedules of the Pool Committee and the Board, and I thank them for that effort above beyond the call of duty. If you have questions, email or call me. We have more little projects and procedures to refine before the pool opens, so as always, if you have an interest in anything pool or otherwise, we have a committee that needs your time and talents. Greg Martinez and the SCOA Pool Committee HAPPY
