ENJOY THE REST OF SUMMER!

It’s nice to see so many neighbors enjoying summer in the neighborhood. Please make sure to watch for the activities of children out of school for the summer as you drive around the community. I see many happy bikers and pool goers out and about and it does impact the kind of traffic we have in the neighborhood.

Here are a few reminders for summer…If you want to reserve the pool for a party, visit our website, www.

stonecanyonoa.org. Select “Amenities,” then “Swimming Pool”. You’ll find pool rules and pool cabana policy and reservation forms. If you need to replace a pool key, there is information there that will help you. If you don’t have login information, you can request it from our home page. Remember, your pool party is not confirmed until you submit the $100.00 deposit.

Dogs are required to be on leash in all common areas of our HOA and in all the parks and greenbelt areas owned by the Fern Bluff MUD. Sadly, we’ve heard from residents that this rule is not being followed and has caused problems for some residents. Please be respectful of others who want to ride, walk, jog or just enjoy our paths. Even friendly dogs can be a bother for those who share the path with them. One woman commented to me that she was wearing white slacks that became dirty when a friendly dog stopped her to “say hi”. Others have mentioned that they are afraid of dogs and feel threatened when any dog approaches them. If you want to let your dog off leash there are many dog parks in the area that permit your dog to be off leash. There is one located in Round Rock off Park Lane behind Lake Creek Pool. projects are automatically approved. Other projects may require review of the ACC for approval. It’s possible you may be asked for more information to assist in the decision process. The committee is composed of volunteers who try to help as quickly as they can so please be patient. If you have any questions for the ACC, you can contact them via email using our website and selecting Requests/Questions.

If you observe irrigation leaks or see the sprinklers on for a prolonged amount of time, contact the property manager, Bob Nardo at 512-852-7965 or send an email to [email protected]. If it’s after hours, you can connect to an emergency service on the phone menu at the 512-852-7965. Be sure to note the cross street and as many details about the location as you can. Over the last year we’ve evaluated our aging irrigation system and have completed many repairs but still have the occasional stuck valve or a tree root grows into the line.

There is no dumping of any kind permitted in our common areas or greenbelts. You may be tempted to just toss a few branches or leaves over your fence, but please resist. Recently on a walk, I noticed piles of wood behind a resident’s home. A very powerful odor was in the air that turned out to be caused by an animal that had crawled into one of the piles and died. We want to avoid this kind of incident.

Please make sure to contact Bob Nardo to make arrangements if you plan to keep any kind of recreational vehicle, trailer or storage unit at your home for more than 48 hours. You can send Bob an email at [email protected].

As of May 15th, we were still following the City of Round Rock’s voluntary watering schedule. It is strongly recommended that you adhere to the suggested guidelines. We’ve been blessed with rain recently but at the slightest indication water levels are falling too quickly the City of Round Rock will not hesitate to make them mandatory. They are closely monitoring water use of all of their customers. Here’s the schedule:

NEIGHBORHOOD WATCH by Joanie Brown

Following is an update on recent criminal mischief activity in Stone Canyon. This information is provided by Deputy Matt Kreidel, our Williamson County Sheriff Dept’s Neighborhood Watch point of contact.

* 07/03/12…2 separate Illegal Auto Entry incidents, Sea Ash Circle* 06/07/12…Illegal Auto Entry, Sea Ash Circle* 06/15/12…Police Report filed, Spindletop TerraceUnfortunately, we’re not always provided info regarding ongoing

investigations; so again, our community network is the best way to send out and receive safety-related info. Remain aware of what’s going on in your immediate area.

So, as always--The Bottom Line: “Word of mouth” among our residents has proven to be the fastest and most effective means of bringing attention to and sharing information about what’s going on. Our Neighborhood Watch network is THE major weapon we can use against anyone who threatens our community. It’s our way of staying aware and keeping our neighborhood the safe place we want and need it to be for each other and our families.

We still need coverage for following streets: *Part of West Magic Mountain and Herb Cove *Part of Wildwater Way *Lake Pines *Alwin *Cloud Peak and Cloud Cove *Box Canyon Terrace *Niagara Falls *Laughing Water *Rosebud Place *Portion of Fern Bluff Ave between west and east ends of Sea Ash *Full Moon Trail and Full Moon Cove *Cool Canyon *Two Jacks Trail

An important reminder: In the event of an emergency, home or auto burglary, any suspicious persons or activity, first and foremost consider your own safety; don’t confront unless you have to. DO call police. Even if a suspected perpetrator is gone, it’s necessary to file a police report. If possible, please notify your Block Captain and your neighbors so the word can be passed through our Neighborhood Watch network.

If you can help out by covering your own or a neighboring street, please let me know. Thanks!

Back To School Checklist

As a parent, there’s no doubt that back-to-school season requires a lot of effort to get your kids all set for the challenges of the classroom. But it’s also an important time to consider your child’s health, says Daniel Howard, M.D., a pediatrician with The Austin Diagnostic Clinic (ADC).

“From making sure all of the proper vaccinations have been administered on schedule, to getting their kids back on ‘school year’ sleep schedules, health is obviously a huge consideration for parents with school-age children,” Dr. Howard says.• Vaccinations 101. Children should receive a variety of

vaccinations and booster shots to prevent them from getting many serious and highly contagious diseases.

• Hearing and vision tests. Consider getting your child’s hearing and vision tested before they begin school to prevent learning challenges in the classroom.

• Health information. Parents should be prepared to provide schools with a list of emergency contact information that includes telephone numbers for parents, close family, pediatrician, and dentist.

• Diet and sleep. Healthy eating is a critical part of a child’s physical and mental development and can help curb the risk of childhood obesity. Sleep is also essential—kids should get between eight to 11 hours per day, depending on their age.

Daniel Howard, M.D., is a pediatrician for The Austin Diagnostic Clinic, a multi-specialty clinic with physicians representing 21medical specialties at more than six locations throughout Austin and Central Texas. Dr. Howard sees patients at the ADC Cedar Bend, at 2400

Cedar Bend Drive. For more information, visit www.adclinic.com or call 512-901-4016. To download an electronic version of this release,

Gratitude is an instant mood converter. Gratefulness is the knife that melds impatience to patience, fear to love and anxiety to peace. Enveloped by the clouds of thankfulness, we can soar high in the air of optimism. Our aura is immediately cleansed when we fill our thoughts with praise. Relationships glow under the varnish of a positive expression in mutual affection.

We only have to look around us to realize how blessed we are. Being mindful of the generosity of people, beauty in our surroundings and the uniqueness of our own spirits can help us appreciate our fortunate existence.

Opening ourselves to receiving divine grace that is already a part of our lives makes us acknowledge our own sacredness. We appreciate our oneness with the universe and what we feel as a result, is gratitude on being a part of the whole. We feel love, we feel complete.

Modeling gratefulness with our families can help children open their hearts to the love and light in everything they do. Daily writing in their Gratitude Journal can gradually shift children's consciousness to a higher dimension.

Constantly reminding children to see the lessons presented by events instead of sulking on challenges can be an exercise in life-long learning. When we encourage children to make choices, evaluate them and re-choose options that help them feel grateful, we show them how to be free.

Together, we find that our interactions with each other have always been complete; the missing link in the puzzle in seeking out and seeding in the Om of smile- the symbol of thankfulness.
