INNOVATION

At Stokke, we have been creating innovative solutions for children since 1972. As our diverse collection of products changes, one thing does not. Hilde Angelfoss, Director of Innovation and Design, Stokke

As designers at Stokke, we are children s ambassadors into the innovation and design process.

The child is our most important user. The core of our design and our brand is to support children

and for their parents to connect with each other. The bonding between parent and child is crucial

for the baby’s development. It is our sincere hope that Stokke helps to make every part of your day

together better…always.

From our high, parent-facing strollers, to our award

winning baby carriers and versatile line of seating

solutions, we prioritize the needs of the child above

all else. Stokke s human centric focus on design ensures

functionality, excellent ergonomics and unparalleled comfort.

Sophisticated engineering delivers technical solutions that

are integrated into our designs.

Comfort and ergonomics

At Stokke, we consider proper ergonomics to be an integral

part of a child s well-being. We work closely with a range of

external experts; designers,

neuroscientists and medical

professionals to make sure

that our products give your

child the support they need

for healthy growth and

development. Our products

grow with your child and

adjust for a custom fit as

they get bigger.

Safety

There is nothing more important

to us than the safety of your

child. Our products pass the most

rigorous international testing

and comply with global safety

standards. You can always rest

assured in the knowledge that our

products are safe for your baby,

for you and for the environment.

We base our philosophy on one basic concept; to design products that are in the best interest of the child.

THE POWER OF CONNECTION

While the baby is still in mum’s tummy, it can hear the voices of people close to her, the music in her world and feel the rhythm of her dancing moves. Then, when the baby arrives, it immediately recognises her voice the moment she speaks and begins to look for her face.*

A babies’ brain will develop more rapidly between birth and

three years than it ever will again. The experiences that

babies share with the key people in their lives will shape their

development. That’s why connection is so important and

powerful in those first years. Comforting and encouraging

interaction will make a baby experience the world as a safe

place to be.

Connection and development

At Stokke, we want our products to help parents give their

child the very best start in life. That's why all of our products

are designed to keep your baby connected to you, to

encourage child development and strengthen the bonds

between parents and children.

We know that it is of the utmost importance that babies

have a sense of connection to their loved ones, to feel safe

and secure. That is why we take our “higher is better” and

“parent-facing” approach to so many of our products. These

features promote better eye contact and interaction between

you and your child – while exploring the world together.

*Zeedyk, Suzanne Dr. Interview with Stokke. 2012

Dr. Suzanne Zeedyk, Developmental Psychologist, University of Dundee, Scotland, explains that "Babies brains come wired for connection, and their brains are constantly firing, building new neural pathways. This means that everything that happens to them is having an impact on their brain. Having close connection to parents, face to face is extremely important to them, especially in the first 3 years this influences how they develop. It is incredibly exciting to be finding new ways to get this scientific information out to parents, so that they feel more informed about the products they buy and other decisions they take about how they want to parent."

A NEW WAY OF LIFE

Having a child is the most amazing thing one can experience. Nothing will

make your heart and soul feel so accomplished, so happy or fill your life

with such meaning. There is a sudden certainty that you now under-

stand what life is all about. Yet nothing else in this world will test your patience

as repeatedly, make you feel that you're not good enough and change your

relationship with your partner and yourself as much as a child.

After having a baby nothing is ever the same again. We close one chapter in life to open another.

From lavish dinners in peace and quiet, exotic travels, high

heels, late Saturday mornings cuddling in bed and having

nights that actually contain an element of sound sleep -

comes quite the opposite. It certainly is challenging, but oh

do we love it. Not only for the obvious and cliché reasons

such as: "you grow as a person", but more for all of the

wonderful things that you get back.

Suddenly you see your partner as a mother/father and

nothing is as attractive as someone who manages that task

with bravura. You follow the development of your child with

such presence, such interest; one could think you were

reading a book that you simply could not put down. I never

feel happier or more loved than when I am with my family.

It's beyond words and has to be experienced to be understood.

My two year old son is sometimes the company I choose

rather than grown-ups, simply because we have so much

fun together. Some days are of course filled with symptoms

of what's referred to as the "terrible twos" (and those can be

very complicated and filled with much frustration), but then

it changes and you get your little angel back. They must have

some sort of spell on us parents, because no one in my life

has ever gotten away with this much fooling around.

Our hearts are filled with so much love for our children.

They have become the centre of our universe and life would

be completely empty without all the elements they add.

Traveling was a big part of our lives before we had children

and today it's still totally manageable, providing some great

planning. We travel differently nowadays because if the child

is happy then so are the parents.

The first time our eldest flew with us he was only six weeks

old. After a few problematic trips, including a road trip in

Morocco traveling around the country in a packed SUV, we

understood the secret. We slowed our tempo in general and

adapted to the child rather than expecting the child to adapt

to us. We learned that all the small "incidents" that happen

along the way are perfectly normal - it's all about how you

handle them.

On the go...STINA S TOP TIPS FOR TRAVELING WITH CHILDREN

Choose a destination that suits your

situation

An apartment hotel is a great place to

stay to enjoy a little kitchen. A pool is

a lot of fun and so is the beach. An

extremely hot climate is a no-go and

don't expect restaurant visits to be

perfect: they will probably include

some cold dishes.

Have patience

Try to be kind towards each other as

parents and see the humour in the

challenge. All parents have gone

through this. It's just a part of life!

Pack smart

Buy a Stokke® PramPack to protect

your stroller when traveling by air. It

rolls up for neat compact storage once

you ve reached your destination.

Be prepared

Always bring a custom made emergency

first aid kit in case the little one gets sick.

Carry on

Fly with the baby carrier if you have a

small child and a rucksack for essentials.

Super practical!

More and more families choose to raise their children in the city. Stokke has a wide range of transport solutions to cope with the demands and adventures of urban life.

EXPLORING THE CITY

Page 15: Stokke collection catalogue

15Stokke

Raising a child in the city is wonderful, but can be

logistically challenging: smaller living spaces, narrow

streets and public transport. A great stroller is a must

for any mum, but it is a must multiplied by a thousand for an

on-the-go city mum with more than one child.

The stroller has a functional duo combination that is an

absolutely perfect option for us. I love that the sibling seat is a

complete, full size stroller seat and I have total peace of mind

that my little ones are comfortable and secure. The lower seat

is positioned higher than usual, keeping the child away from

dust and dirt, and allowing for extra hidden storage under-

neath. The small footprint and unique seat placement makes

daily use of Stokke® Crusi a breeze even on populated streets,

in narrow shopping aisles or on the subway during peak hours.

When Evyianne was born and we started using the Carry Cot,

I fell in love with Stokke® Crusi all over again. It’s so soft, deep

and comfortable, he falls asleep the second I place him in it.

I highly recommend all Stokke products to any family. Their

stroller line has an option for everyone.

Stokke® Scoot™ AMSTERDAMAs a mother living in the city centre of Amsterdam, I needed a stroller that was compact and easy to manoeuvre. I was very excited when I discovered Stokke® Scoot™. It was love at first sight.

Stokke® Scoot is compact, but has many of the

features of a much larger stroller. In addition to its

quality, the thing I like most about this stroller is the

design. Your baby sits high up and is positioned close to you.

It is so convenient for going out - you won’t need a high

chair, because you simply bring the stroller right to the table.

The apartments in Amsterdam are relatively small and have

narrow staircases, but this is not a problem for Stokke® Scoot

as you can easily fold it and carry it with you up the stairs. Its

small footprint also makes it ideal for public transportation.

Even when I travel by plane I bring the stroller in our Stokke®

PramPack. It goes everywhere with us. We absolutely enjoy

every moment when we are on the go with Stokke® Scoot

and strongly recommend it to urban parents who love to live

in style!

Stokke® MyCarrier™ Cool

TOKYO

Stokke® MyCarrier Cool is made with consideration

for safety and comfort for both babies and mums.

I believe the ergonomic carrier has prevented me

from experiencing frequent backaches and stiff shoulders.

Since I can use both hands freely, it works well when I carry

groceries in one hand and hold my oldest son’s hand in the

other.

Another of my favorite products is my Stokke® Scoot

stroller, which I have been using since my baby was a

newborn. Because the seat is high, she isn’t bothered

with pollution from the street. When my baby faces me

during our walks, it allows me to more easily communicate

with her. The size of the stroller makes it very convenient

to maneuver smoothly through ticket gates and narrow

aisles in stores. It can also be folded to an even more

compact size for transport.

Stokke® Scoot and Stokke® MyCarrier Cool are indispensable

for my family! They make going out fun and easy and will be

appreciated for years to come.

Stokke® Crusi™ with Sibling Solution

NEW YORKLiving in Manhattan, some would agree that strollers have become our cars. Used not only to carry our little loved ones, strollers are a convenient vessel for our baby gear, groceries, purses and anything imaginable!

For me, having a stroller with sturdy wheels and good

suspension that can navigate cobble stone streets, rain,

sleet, and snow is imperative. When I became pregnant

with my third child, I heard about Stokke s sibling solution

stroller. I knew I needed to buy it, as Stokke had become

one of my most trusted brands as a new mum.

Originally, I bought the Stokke® Crusi with my third child in

mind, but I decided to test drive it prior to her arrival. My

middle, Siella, was the first passenger to break in the top

seat, while my eldest, Ryder enjoyed the sibling seat. It was

during this time I fell even more in love my Stokke® Crusi. We

had many beautiful sun filled days with our stroller. When my

third baby was born, I simply slipped the infant cushion in the

top seat, and we were on our way. Compared to competitive

brands, its seat height stands well above the rest. I am looking

right at my child, without breaking my neck.

Overall, my Stokke® Crusi is perfect for my growing family, as

we brave the hustle and bustle of the New York City streets.

SEOULWhen I had my second baby, choosing a stroller was easy. I bought a Stokke® Xplory® and soon realised why mums were so much in love with the Stokke brand.

My daughter Sol Yul was born just before Stokke

entered into the Korean market. When Stokke

became available in Seoul, I found myself looking

at other babies in Stokke® Xplory®. They all looked so

comfortable and happy. Later, when I had my son, Yong

Jun, I purchased an Stokke® Xplory® which we are both

very pleased with. I like the distinctive design and how

comfortable it is for my baby. My son always falls asleep

safe and sound when we are strolling the city streets. Even

in cold winter weather, he stays warm and comfy when I

style the stroller with the eye catching Winter Kit.

What I like the most about Stokke® Xplory® is its higher seat

position that promotes eye-contact and helps me to connect

to my little boy. I also love that I don t need to ask for a baby

chair when my family goes out for dinner. All we need is our

stroller which brings my son right to the dining table to enjoy

dinnertime together with the family.

Thanks to Stokke® Xplory®, we enjoy lots of moments

together while traveling or dining out, and I know that we

have lots of happy memories to come.

Like you and your baby, each part of Stokke® Steps is

made for each other. It is the ultimate way of keeping

your little one close, comfortable and happy. Stokke®

Steps is a practical system that gives children active comfort

and the freedom to move within the safest of surroundings.

This unique system offers a wide range of ergonomic

seating, from a bouncer with cradling motion, to a functional

highchair and later, a versatile toddler chair that can be used

throughout childhood.

Scandinavian design philosophy

During the development, we focused on practical function

and beautiful lines, making Stokke® Steps both enjoyable for

your baby to use and convenient for you to handle. With its

simple, elegant design the system complements any interior.

The complete solution

Our vision was to design a unique product that not only

reflected our core values but also met the everyday needs

of families over time. We were determined to design a

complete seating solution that could be used from birth -

a truly comfortable and safe system for children that was

also an intuitive, elegant solution for their parents.

Designed with your baby and you in mind

Each part of developing Stokke® Steps was centred around

the child and evolved through extensive user testing. We

invited parents and children from all around the world to

try Stokke® Steps. We gained valuable feedback and made

adjustments until we accomplished our mission of making a

system that made both children and parents happy users.

A MODERN CLASSIC

The Tripp Trapp® designer’s inspiration came from watching

his own young son Tor - having grown out of his traditional

highchair, but still far too small to sit on an adult’s chair, Tor

was left with his legs dangling and struggling to reach the

table.

In 1972 no one had seen anything like the Tripp Trapp®, and

more than 40 years later it is still unique. It is the childrens

chair that can take you from baby to adulthood, keeping you

happy and comfortable all the way.

The Tripp Trapp® chair, created in 1972 by the Norwegian designer Peter Opsvik, has never been bettered.

“In 1972 the only sitting devices for children from the age of two onwards were special, low chairs, or ordinary chairs designed and

intended for grown-ups. My objective was that one chair should seat persons of all sizes in a natural way at the same table. My

hope was that this would make sitting at the table more enjoyable and make activities easier to perform there.”

Peter Opsvik, designer.

LIFE AROUNDTHE TABLE

Sometimes, it seems like we are all foodies, and that

being a foodie is the most important way you can care

about food: We talk about food, watch food shows

and read glossy cookbooks. There are dinner parties that

can sometimes seem more like cooking competitions than

anything else.

Everyday food is an altogether different ballgame. However

much I enjoy dining out, or spending a whole Saturday fussing

around the kitchen in anticipation of dinner guests, I think that

the measure of a good and strong relationship to food is

how you cook and eat under somewhat less-than-ideal

circumstances: On a busy Tuesday afternoon; the meal that

has to be squeezed in between all the other of the day’s

chores. Those few minutes around the table are often the

only time of day when the entire family is gathered in one

place, a much needed opportunity to talk about our lives, to

share a silly joke, or an important story about something that

happened to us, and to – in the smallest and most sincere

way, reconfirm our commitment to each other as a family.

To me, life is what happens around the table. The most important food is not what you eat at top restaurants, or make to impress your friends. It is the stuff you make and share with your family – every day.

Andreas Viestad is an award-winning cookbook author, Norwegian Food columnist and chef. He is the television host of New Scandinavian Cooking. Andreas is also the founder of Geitmyra Culinary Center for Children, where children can learn about food that is good for them. He lives in Oslo with his wife and three children.

Tripp Trapp®

"Cooking with my kids is the greatest culinary adventure of my life."

Page 28: Stokke collection catalogue

28 Stokke

When I started working with food, it was as an explorer. For

New Scandinavian Cooking I have traveled into the deepest

fjords, and climbed the highest mountains in search of unique

flavours. All in all my writing and television work has sent me

to more than 40 different countries on five continents. But

the most demanding journey has been the one I ventured out

on when I became a father. Suddenly, I had to put someone

else first. And as my flock of children grew – I now have

three – I had to juggle the demands and needs of three very

different individuals with very strong wills. I had to make sure I

could feed them properly, and more or less on time every day.

For some, having kids means the end of all ambition in the

kitchen – succumbing to ready-mades and takeaway food

to eliminate the hassle of cooking. To us, the kitchen is the

most important meeting place. Ever since my children were

old enough to sit on the kitchen counter, they have joined

me in cooking dinner. They help me chop vegetables, grate

cheese or knead dough. My daughter loves to stir risotto,

while my eldest boy is fascinated to see the transformation

of meat from raw muscle to sumptuously browned steak. We

talk, we laugh, we nibble at the food, and argue about when

the pasta is perfectly cooked.

Sometimes they make a mess. No, let me be honest, they

always make a mess. Small children are not to be left alone

with a bag of flour, and they cannot be trusted to bring a bowl

of rice safely to the table without spilling some or all of its

content on the floor. That said, learning to cook together with

my children has been the most interesting culinary adventure

I have yet to have. The food I eat now is different from when

I was a free operator traveling the world in search of new

flavours. But it is more meaningful and every bit as good.

Serves 5

Ingredients

500 g spaghetti

400 g minced beef

2 tablespoons cashew nuts, chopped

1 carrot, grated

1 tablespoon parsley, basil or oregano, chopped

1 dry slice of bread, or 3-4 tablespoons breadcrumbs

100 ml milk

1 egg

50 g grated parmesan cheese

olive oil for frying

1-5 cloves garlic, chopped

One 400 g tin chopped tomatoes

More oil, parmesan and herbs to serve

Combine minced meat, nuts, carrot, herbs, egg, parmesan

and milk in a large bowl. Tear the bread into small pieces and

mix thoroughly. Fry the garlic in oil in a large frying pan before

adding it to the mixture. Form the meat mixture into small

balls with your hands and add to the pan one by one. Make

sure that you do not crowd the pan; you might have to fry the

meatballs in two batches. When the meatballs are browned all

over, add crushed tomatoes. Bring water to a light boil. Cook

spaghetti as per instructions – it is best to leave the pasta still

a little firm in the middle, al dente. When the pasta is cooked,

drain and combine with meatballs and sauce. For a more gen-

erous flavours, add more olive oil, grated parmesan and herbs.

Spaghetti with meatballsIt is hard to find anyone who does not like spaghetti with meatballs, and it is, predictably, the favourite food of my children. I believe that when they have helped to make the food, it makes it taste that much better.

Breathable mesh textiles.

For more accessories and additional colors, visit www.stokke.com

The Stokke® MyCarrier is made of organic

cotton textiles. Organic material is espe-

cially good for children since they can be

more sensitive to substances they have

not been exposed to.

The Stokke® MyCarrier Cool uses the same breathable mesh

technology used for many types of sportswear. Breathable

textiles allow better airflow for cooling and transporting

moisture away from the body. This helps both you and your

baby to stay comfortably close.
