In the 1950s Brintons invented the 80 percent wool, 20 percent nylon blend, which is now the global standard for axminster around the world. This blend combines the comfort of wool with the strength and durability of nylon. It continues to perform excellently and it is used in our products today, woven on looms designed and built by Brintons.

Performance detailsBrintons warrants that its carpets will be free from defects arising from faulty manufacture or the use of faulty materials and will conform to the quality and performance standards as outlined in the product’s quality specification. We can provide this information, together with tolerances applying to specific test results, upon request.
Many of our stocked ranges meet the marine flammability requirements as required by the International Maritime Organisation (IMO). The Wheelmark shows that the carpet conforms to the IMO Safety of Life at Sea (SOLAS) requirements for spread of flame, smoke and toxicity.
Brintons carpets also carry the CE mark under EN 14041:2004 and perform to EN 13501. We can provide declarations of conformity for flammability performance upon request.

Colour matchOur carpets are produced from a wool-rich yarn blend. All natural textiles have colour and blend variances and an exact match to sampling is not guaranteed. Heather and berber effects are created by blending different coloured wools which can appear as dark flecks or linear forms in the carpet. This is considered an attractive and intentional feature of the finished product.
Pattern matchDue to subtle design repeats extra material may be required to ensure continuation in design and pile direction. This will vary depending on the installation and should be incorporated in the planning and estimating for a commercial project.
Country of originBrintons woven carpets are made at our own manufacturing plants in the UK, Portugal or India.
Cleaning & Maintenance
By their very nature commercial environments make heavy demands on floorcoverings. Brintons carpets are ideally suited to meet those demands. The inherent soil hiding properties of a Brintons wool-rich carpet ensures positive results from carefully planned and performed cleaning programmes using most commercially available cleaning systems.
SoilingThe main causes of soiling are from airborne dust and foot, wheelchair, cart or trolley traffic. Restaurant and food vending areas are prone to high levels of soiling as are entrance areas in buildings with ground floor access from outside.
Barrier mattingBarrier matting is a very effective method to prevent soiling. The first line of defence is heavy duty matting fitted outside or immediately inside the entrance. A lighter duty all textile mat is an effective second line of defence, fitted close to heavy-duty matting or loosely laid in high traffic areas.
Regular vacuumingBrintons carpets should be vacuumed immediately after installation and then at regular intervals to remove hard abrasive particles which can cause pile damage and discolouration.
For our cut pile carpets, Brintons recommends vacuum cleaners with cylindrical rotating brushes and beaters.
Spillages and stain removalBrintons recommends stain removers approved under the Woolsafe programme. Use in accordance with the manufacturer’s guidelines and try on a small inconspicuous area first.
Always undertake the removal of spillages, spots and stains before commencing any intensive cleaning operations. Act promptly, but do not rub, as this will cause pile distortion.
Commercially available cleaning systemsBrintons recommends the following methods using Woolsafe approved cleaning companies: • Absorbent powder compounds • Dry foam (cylindrical brush method) • Hot water/spray extraction
Brintons do not recommend bonnet buffing / skimming or rotary brush cleaning systems

AxminsterIn a Brintons axminster carpet cut tufts of yarn are woven and locked into place by shots of backing yarn to create a strong, integrated three-dimensional structure. This method of carpet manufacture creates a high-performance floor covering which meets the demands of the heaviest traffic areas and also allows for the creation of complex designs incorporating multiple colour and yarn combinations.
WiltonBrintons wilton carpets are made on face-to-face looms where two carpets are woven at the same time. We can achieve a number of textures in our wilton carpets from hard twists to plush velvets. Whilst the majority of our wiltons are plain we can also create striking stripy designs to give a dramatic burst of colour and texture.
TilesIf you want to achieve the design impact of an axminster carpet, but need the practicality of a tile, then Brintons axminster tiles offer the perfect solution. With our critical match capability we can reproduce almost any broadloom design in a tile to give you the ultimate broadloom-in-a-box solution. Our tiles are comfort backed and are available in two sizes 0.91m x 0.91m and 0.45m x 0.45m.
HandtuftIf you are looking to create the ultimate, luxurious interior then look no further - we can create the most exquisite handtufted rugs and wall-to-wall carpets using the finest virgin wools. The opportunities with handtuft are almost limitless, in terms of colour, design treatments and textural effects. The size and scale of our handtuft carpets are only limited by our physical capability to transport extremely large pieces.
TuftedWhilst tufted carpets do not offer the same design flexibility or performance as a Brintons axminster they can provide a cost effective alternative where budget is of critical importance. Our tufted carpets come in a variety of styles - cut, loop or a combination of the two. We also offer wool-rich, nylon and solution-dyed nylon (SDN) carpets depending on your project needs.
