STEPS• Cut mat board down to 16” x 20”• Prepare your painting surface

• Write name on the back of your 16” x 20” mat board • Prime mat board with white gesso using a large brush• Evenly coat the entire surface• Let dry

• Create a rough draft for your abstract painting using chalk pastel. Use your chalk pastel still life as a reference for your composition and color scheme.• Get approval before beginning final painting

• Block in your underpainting using complement colors of those found in your chalk pastel drawing & let dry

• Final painting – layer a variety of painting techniques / applications to complete your abstract painting • Layer, layer, layer• Build texture through varied painting applications• Abstract objects by using opposite brush strokes from the mark making in your drawing
