A big decision with many choices...

A decision that will affect the rest of your life...

So why come to Sterling? What does Sterling have to offer you?

“I believe that teaching happens both inside and outside the classroom—you share knowledge, yes, but you also share lives. That just isn’t possible in classrooms filled with 200 people. I want to be a part of my students’ lives—to know what their dreams, passions and even hurts are about.” -Kathy Glynn, Senior Associate Professor of Business and Entrepreneurship

May God…give you a spirit of unity among yourselves as you follow Christ Jesus. - Romans 15:5

A new command I give you: Love one another. As I have loved you, so you must love one another. By this all men will know that you are my disciples, if you love one another. - John 13:34-35

“Through my friendships with teammates and caring professors, Sterling College has helped me grow as a man, friend and follower of Christ. There are very few colleges in the country that have the ability to transform individuals the way Sterling does.”

Grow in the grace and knowledge of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. - 2 Peter 3:18

Why Come to Sterling College?

Come to GROW

- Norman Montgomery, Theological Studies major Union Bridge, Maryland

GROW how?Through relationships. No one grows alone. At Sterling you’ll be supported in your growth by professors, coaches, staff and fellow students. In other words, by a community.

“Sterling feels like home to me because of the close relationships I have with my professors and coaches. My favorite professor, Dr. Hank, took me and other students on a mission trip to Kenya this summer. Through experiences like these, my faith has become more real and active. At Sterling, students have room to change and grow.”

- Andy Dinh, Worship Leadership major Liberal, Kansas

And let us consider how we may spur one another on toward love and good deeds. - Hebrews 10:24

Page 10: Sterling College Viewbook 2010

Grow How? In your own individual way. God has gifted you uniquely and has created a plan designed for your specific talents. Here at Sterling College you will be encouraged to discover and develop your gifts.

There are different kinds of spiritual gifts, but it is the same Holy Spirit who is the source of them all. There are different kinds of service in the church, but it is the same Lord we are serving. There are different ways God works in our lives, but it is the same God who does the work through all of us. - 1 Cor. 12:4-6

So what are your gifts?

But why GROW?“Sterling lets me interact with a lot of different people. It lets me experience a piece of their worlds as they experience mine. I participate in theatre, help with Service Link (a volunteer service organization), sing in several music groups, pole vault for the track team, and serve on our Campus Activities Board (CAB). What else keeps me active? Playing Ultimate Frisbee and thinking up new campus traditions like mud football and campus golf, even putting up a tree swing. The swing is just another fun experience to bring us all together. And that’s what college is all about.” - Seth Prochaska, Theatre Arts major Ada, Kansas

For we are God’s workmanship, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do. - Ephesians 2:10

Page 16: Sterling College Viewbook 2010

GROW…to CHANGE THE WORLD

“Sterling believes in servant leadership. Last Christmas I was overwhelmed when eight students chose to spend the holiday on a mission to South Africa rather than at home with their families. The present generation of youth seems to have an interest in seeking justice and is willing to help others less fortunate than themselves. When American students confront the stark reality of the major world, their whole attitude is transformed. They move beyond the egocentric to a spirit of servant leadership.” - Dr. Henry Lederle, Professor, Theology & Ministry Director of Cross-Cultural Studies

CHANGE THE WORLD how? through service

Now that I, your Lord and Teacher, have washed your feet, you should also wash one another’s feet. I have set you an example that you should do as I have done for you. - John 13:14-15

“When I walked by the statue of Jesus washing Peter’s feet on our campus, I knew Sterling was where I could find people committed to the principles of servant leadership. I’m learning how to be a servant leader because Sterling College emphasizes servant leadership as part of daily life.” -Natalie Gordon, Communications major Denver, Colorado
