In spite of this obvious commoditisation a number of companies still position these simple consumable products as premium devices and price them accordingly.

Orthopaedic Saw Blades

Saw blades are an essential consumable device that are used in an array of orthopaedic surgical procedures. It is important that the blades are fully compatible with the power tools that are in use in the operating theatre. The blades must retain their sharpness during the procedure and resect bone with minimal effort and maximum precision. The blade range available must also be broad enough to be used in a variety of orthopaedic procedures.

You can choose from a range of 249 blades with 35 thicknesses, 54 widths, 68 lengths and 35 connections.OrthoSolutions offers a wide range of saw blade types and configurations, which are fully compatible with all major power tools systems and are functionally equivalent to the proprietary saw blades that they have been designed to replace.

Cutting quality and control is provided through our varied tooth formations. Precision cutting is facilitated through a range of 5 cutting profiles. A choice of 35 hub connections is available to match all major proprietary power tool platforms.

OrthoSolutions Drill Bits and Burrs are functionally equivalent to proprietary drill bits and burrs supplied by alternative manufacturers, such as DePuy Synthes, Zimmer, DeSoutter and Stryker.

The drill bits are made of high quality stainless steel and are fully compatible with all power tools and the AO quick coupling system. OrthoSolutions drills are offered in a variety of diameters (1.1mm to 6.0mm), lengths and cannulations for use in high volume trauma and elective procedures.

OrthoSolutions burrs are available for use in Oral, Maxillo-Facial, ENT and Neurosurgical procedures. They are compatible with standard Jacobs chuck power tools, Xomed and Stryker J-Latch power tools. A variety of diameters, cutting profiles (Round, Oval, Side cutting and tapered) and materials (S/S, diamond and tungsten Carbide) are available to match their clinical use.

Our range includes:

K-Wires & Pins

OrthoSolutions offers a variety of Kirschner Wires

(K-Wires) and Pins that are used in a broad range

of orthopaedic procedures.

The K-Wires and Pins are manufactured from high quality stainless steel and are supplied in either standard or hardened variants. A variety of pins are also available including Steinmann and Denham. The Challenge

Healthcare procurement and purchasing departments have been tasked with making significant cost saving to achieve key financial targets whilst maintaining high levels of clinical outcomes and patient satisfaction.

Sheffield Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust complete hundreds of orthopaedic procedures each year that require the use of surgical saw blades. All the blades used must stand up to the rigors of orthopaedic surgery and cut bone effectively. Any functionally equivalent replacement blade must perform as effectively and maintain these exacting quality standards.

The Solution

OrthoSolutions helped the Trust meet its goals to reduce costs within the surgical environment, whilst maintaining quality standards. OrthoSolutions provided a cost calculation to establish the exact savings generated from changing their supplier of saw blades. It was estimated that £30,000 of savings could be generated. The Trust then agreed to complete a clinical evaluation of the functionally equivalent alternative blades.

For the clinical evaluation OrthoSolutions provided fully compatible saw blades for all the different hub designs used in the Trust.

The clinical evaluation was successfully concluded and OrthoSolutions provided the Trust with a conversion plan, which detailed every aspect of the introduction to its hospitals to ensure the smooth transition from the old suppliers.
