How to Discover Your Life Purpose

By Richard K. Wanyama

Declaring the end from the beginning,And from ancient times things that are not yet done,Saying, ‘My counsel shall stand,And I will do all My pleasure,’

… Indeed I have spoken it;I will also bring it to pass.I have purposed it;I will also do it.

ISAIAH 46:10-11

EGARDLESS of the circumstances of your birth, you were not born by accident or mere chance. You were born according to divine design by

Almighty God, the Creator of all life. There is a divine plan directing your whole life experience up to now, into the future and through eternity. God designed the kind of wonderful person you can potentially become. He designed when and where you were born and raised up way before you were born. He needed you exactly the

way you are wired up at the core. His plan for your life has always been perfect.

1. CREATED FOR A PURPOSE

Before you were born God had a purpose for your life. That was His will [God’s will] for your life.It was His original intent for creating you.It was the reason for your existence. It was His desired result of bringing you to earth. It was the end result or ultimate goal of your life.It was the source of meaning or essence of creating you.It was the special mission that you were born to accomplish.

You came into this world to fulfill His divine purpose. He drew the plans of how you are to participate in growing His Kingdom on earth.

If David had not been known the desperation of being attacked by the bear and the lion in a lonely place, he wouldn’t have known that God fights for him. He would have no testimony with which to overcome Goliath.

If Joseph had not been sold into slavery, he wouldn’t have received mentorship in business management under Potiphar. If he had not gone to prison, he wouldn’t

have met Pharaoh’s servant who mentioned his gift of interpreting dreams.

If Jesus had not suffered the humiliation of the cross, he would not have become the redeemer of mankind, LORD of lords and King of kings.

God has a wonderful plan for your life. His wonderful plan arises from His purpose for your life. His purpose and plan for your life is to do you good and not to bring evil upon you. He wants to give you hope, blessing, prosperity and a secure future. Only God knows your life purpose and is eager to reveal it to you. He is committed to bring His purpose and plans for your life to pass.

Sometimes adversity is what you need to face in order to become successful.

ZIG ZIGLAR

Every great man, every successful man, no matter what the field of endeavor, has known the magic that lies in these words: every adversity has the seed of an equivalent or greater benefit.

2. YOUAREUNIQUE

You are one of a kind. You are special in the whole world. No one out of the 6 billion people on earth is

3

Page 4: Steps to discovering your life purpose richard k wanyama

exactly like you.No one has your fingerprints. You are unique, created for a unique mission. Be yourself. Guard your uniqueness. It’s your seed for significance. Don’t try to imitate another person. When you imitate another, you lose your unique value. You suppress your seed from blooming and blessing your world.

3. YOUHAVE NO DUPLICATE

You don’t have and will never have a duplicate copy. You are not a mass-produced copy of another person. You are an original, carefully and purposefully engineered and created in the nature and character of God to manifest His characteristics.

Watch God and you will discover the way you were formed to function. So, stop fearing. Stop doubting. Get up and get back into the race.

You are irreplaceable. No one can really represent you in the world. Never pretend to be anybody or anything other than who you really are. You can never reach your full potential by being another person.

4. THE WORLD HAS BEEN WAITING

The world has been waiting for your arrival. The world has been waiting for your unique flavor and for your star to shine. You are the light of the world. You are the salt of the earth.Don’t cover your light under a basket.Let it shine that people may see your good works and glorify your Father in Heaven.Don’t hide your salt qualities.

4

Prepare for yourself a great farewell from earth and a great welcome into God’s presence.

6. DO YOUR ROADWORK

“You can map out a fight plan or a life plan, but when the action starts, you’re down to your reflexes. That’s where your roadwork shows. If you cheated on that in the dark of the morning, well, you’re going to get found out now, under the bright lights.”

JOE FRAZIERFormer Heavyweight Boxing Champion

Kenny Eller wrote an article titled “the foundation for greatness is in the roadwork.” Emulate the habits of all good athletes. Lay the foundation of your own greatness by mastering the discipline of doing your roadwork faithfully.

No one will hunger to see you in practice, sweating, gasping for breath, baking under the sun. No one will see you debating with yourself whether to quit or persist. No one will see you trying again and again. Nobody will sympathize with your muscle aches and bruises. But never be deceived to quit or slacken. A lot of work goes into being great at anything.

After you have succeeded people will credit your success to innate ability; if you don’t succeed, they will not even notice you were around. While natural ability is important

8

Page 9: Steps to discovering your life purpose richard k wanyama

to build on your ability, a lot of what is celebrated will come from the countless hours you spend polishing and perfecting your skill when no one is watching. These secrets hours determine what will be seen and said in public.

Be tough on yourself. Push yourself to exhaustion. It was said that life is not easy; life is tough. But when you get tough on yourself, life begins to become easy on you. Even when it is not enjoyable, push yourself. Remember the words of E.B. Browning: “Knowledge by suffering entereth; and life is perfected by death.”Work on weak spots. Keep improving. Beat your previous record. Compete ferociously against yourself. The fact that you don’t like doing a thing does not mean that you should neglect to do it. When you keep on keeping on, one time the difficult task will feel as natural as breathing in and out.

Those who sow in tearsShall reap in joyHe who continually goes forth weeping,Bearing seed for sowing,Shall doubtless come again with rejoicing,Bringing his sheaves with him.

PSALM 126:5-6

The commonality among all great individuals is their willingness to work extremely hard when no one is watching. While operating in the public is where the fun is found, they understanding that impressing the public won’t get them to where they want to be.

You may get the blessing of being exposed to some amazingly skilled people as you move on your success journey. You may even learn what it took them to get where they are. While you may never reach their level of success, focus on making the most of your opportunity to be the

9

Page 10: Steps to discovering your life purpose richard k wanyama

best that you can be. So work hard and do your best to improve because you are not at the top of your game yet.

Your best may still be many days away, but it will come if you keep being tough on yourself.

7. CO-CREATE YOUR LIFE WITH GOD

Understand that you are a co-creator of your life with God. After He created you, He now wants to work with you to create the kind of life that fulfills His purpose for you. Failing to understand this truth leaves you at the peril of depending on your human limitations.

It’s no accident that you are on earth during this time and season and it matters.

When you do well, people notice. When you do your best, people appreciate. So wherever you are, always do your best. Doing your best puts you on the next level.

Nothing in the lives of influential people is lucky. There will certainly be encounters with divine grace, blessing, divide order, but not much luck. Influential people see luck as preparation coming into contact with the moment of opportunity. There is no luck for those who are unprepared to meet the moment of opportunity.

When you trustingly place your hand in the hand of God – that is bigger than your whole self – you will be prepared in ways you don’t even know you are being prepared. You will eventually notice that every single thing that happens in your life was preparing you for the moment that was to come.

8. SUCCESS IS NEVER INHERITED

Nothing is yours until you conquer and earn it. Success is never inherited. Even if it is told you, taught you, preached to you, it’s never yours until you discover and conquer it. Each generation must learn and earn its success. When a generation tries to ride along on the success of an earlier generation, it begins to fall back and decline. They must earn their success in their own right in a way that is meaningful to their season. A generation can inherit certain and benefits, but they must do their own learning and earn their place in the assembly of achievers. If it were not so, all children of influential people would be influential.

Whereas a good family background contributes considerably to good life outcomes, it does not guarantee anything. You don’t get a rich positive attitude because your parents were that way. You don’t end up in a fulfilling marital relationship just because your parents were happily married all their life. You are not guaranteed sufficient finances because your parents always had sufficient income. You are not guaranteed a superb value system because you come from a family with outstanding values.

Everyone who possesses any desirable thing has paid a price to tap. The grace of God is crucial in bringing about the good things of life. However, the scriptures also uphold virtues of industry and diligence.
