Janet Abraham retired from the State of Oregon Judicial Dept. She has two sons and enjoys hiking, yoga, golf, Stephen Ministry and her wonderful friends. Marvin Arnpriester has been married to Carolyn for 51 years and has two sons and four grandchildren. He graduated from the Saint Paul School of Theology and retired after 41 years of service in Iowa. He has been Senior Pastor at SLUMC since June 2015. He enjoys reading and sports. Claire Akin retired from the Human Resources Department of an aerospace company. The highlight of her life was raising three dedicated Christians. She enjoys reading. Joanie Beddall is very active supporting nonprofit organizations dedicated to causes such as breast cancer, Alzheimer’s disease, diabetes, and lung disease. In her spare time, Joanie likes to sail. Stephen Ministry at Sun Lakes United Methodist Church got its start in 1990 and continues to be an important ministry in our church today. Living and working in New Zealand and Australia were life highlights, and she enjoys music, needlework, and entertaining. Rod Carruthers is a retired teacher, manager and consultant. He earned the “Distinguished Professor Chair” at ASU, and spent 12 years in New Zealand and Australia. He is active in the Gentlemen’s Club and likes woodworking, teaching and music. December 2016

Ardi Conradi is a retired teacher who enjoys church, gardening, family and friends. She has four children and five

grandchildren.

Carolyn Currie is a Stephen Minister leader. She and husband Craig enjoy

spending summers in Oregon.

Merrie Crawford is a retired teacher who loves singing (choir and Sun Lakes Chorale), acting and directing community theatre, reading and travel. A highlight in her life was

meeting Loretta Scott-King in 1970.

Ramona Ehrmantraut retired from North Dakota Human Services. She lived the life of a military spouse and raised four children. She was a Stephen Minister Coordinator for many years, and enjoys being in the

church choir.

John Ferrin’s career was in infor-mation systems for a medical group management company. He enjoys golf, reading, hiking, and travel. He’s grateful for great relationships, and

for being healthy and mobile.

Judy Ferrin retired from a medical malpractice insurance company. She was one of eight children. She has a daughter, two grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. Her hobbies include golf, bridge, pickleball, travel

and reading.

Debbie Gregoline retired from the dental industry. She enjoys her three children and likes to travel, golf, run

and bike.

Pat Hollander worked for Kimbell Candy Co. and International Harvester. One highlight of her life was being in the Who’s Who of Chicago Working Women. She is

active in church and Lions Club.

Betty Joseph is a retired teacher. She was married 32 years to Al, and has an awesome son and daughter, six grandchildren, and three great-grandchildren. She enjoys reading, pickleball, bocce ball, Mahjong and

hiking.

Nan Keller worked for Revlon and later, in the Sun Lakes UMC Church Office. She was born and raised in Indiana and moved to Arizona in 1985. She is a charter member of SLUMC. Nan is active in different

areas of many service groups.

Ann LaBarge has ten grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. She was in real estate for many years. She

enjoys golf, bridge, and cooking.

Ellyn Martin has three children and seven wonderful grandchildren. She enjoys gardening, rubber stamping,

reading and water aerobics.

Joan Loose is the Stephen Ministry Coordinator. She was in the insurance industry and owned a clothing store. She enjoys church, family, being with friends, and travel. She has four wonderful children and grandchildren. She enjoys cooking

and golf.

Sally McKnight became a Christian at age 15. She graduated from college in 1954, married in 1960, and has three children. She taught school, worked for Price Waterhouse and also in the SLUMC office. She enjoys

bird watching, sketching and writing.

Loretta Munsell Overman enjoys reading, walking, quiet time, choir and being a Stephen Minister. She has been blessed with three great children, five grandchildren, a wonderful step family and three great

spouses.

“Therefore encourage one another and build up each other.” 1 Thessalonians 5:11

Judy Schimpf taught first grade for 40 years. She is grateful for a delightful marriage, having traveled to all the continents, and for her five grand-children. She enjoys lay speaking,

knitting and baking.

Wes Noel retired from the insurance industry. He married in 1945 and has three children. He enjoys baseball and basketball, golf, church activities

and being a Stephen Minister.

Peggy Nicholson retired from teaching in Scottsdale. She has three children, seven grandchildren, and three great-grandchildren. She enjoys

volunteering, reading and traveling.

Carol Nicholas retired from International Air Academy. She feels blessed to have a wonderful family, friends and career, and finds much joy in serving as a Stephen Minister and an Ambassador. Tennis, traveling

and reading are her favorite hobbies.

Pastor Jean Newell has three children. The highlight of her life was becoming an ordained elder in UMC. She enjoys reading, crocheting and

crafting.

Lorna Snedigar is retired from teaching and the cattle business. Two of her life’s highlights were being rodeo princess in 1959 and taking a teachers’ trip to China that was sponsored by the People to People Program. She enjoys serving,

crafting, traveling and exercising.

George Thomas retired from the coatings industry. He enjoys sports of all kinds, choir, and spending time

with family, friends and neighbors.

Sharon Szabo is a retired CIS professor from Schoolcraft College in Michigan. She has been married to Gene for 56 years, has four children and four grandchildren. She enjoys church activities and gardening in

Michigan in the summer.

Myles Traphagen is Lay Leader at SLUMC and has served on a variety of committees at church. He enjoys golf, bicycling, and travel (especially

to Maui).

Dan Tucker is a retired professor from the University of Louisiana at Lafayette, where he taught for 30 years. He is married to a wonderful woman and has one amazing son. His hobbies include outdoor digital photography, reading and

comparative shopping.

Roger Warren was in sales and marketing, and trained and showed Arabian horses. He is a church usher and helped organize the Singles Group at church. His hobbies are walking, traveling, golf and just

enjoying life.

Nancy Wilsen was in sales and marketing. She met a wonderful man, married in Mississippi, and was introduced to golf – a big part of their life together. They have two children. She enjoys golf, reading and

volunteering.

Marjorie Wright has three children. She and Wayne celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary this year. Highlights include visiting all the continents and being citizen of the year in her former community. She enjoys community service, travel,

gardening and reading.

Dotty Young is a retired school teacher. She has two children, three grandchildren, and three great-grandchildren. Her favorite hobbies are crafts, sewing, singing in choir

and Sweet Adelines.
