Located in Los Angeles, the Caivano House is a two story single family residence. Taking advantage of the prefabricated construction method, the environmentally optimized building shell is designed for various levels of light penetration, ventilation, and heat gain in each room of the house.

5 Sunshade Detail The parametric wooden structure which serves as a sunshade and warps into architectural detailing within the house maximizes the dramatic view down the hill and into the private garden in the backyard. Parts of the wooden structure blend into the interior space and become rain shower detailing, partition walls, and beam structures.

For the Gowanus Housing Development, the housing units are on an elevated block above mix use industrial and retail space. Utilizing the philosophy of the Mews sys-tem, the interior courtyards provide shared green space, breaking the monotony of the brownstone block. Skylights bring light into the industrial and retail spaces below. The orientation of the units and angular glass facade serves to maximise light in each unit while also taking advantage of maximum heat gain in the winter. Rainwater catchment systems on the roof, in addition to an array of photovoltaic panels, provide the housing development with net zero capabilities.

The exterior view shows in detail the angular facade, positioned to maximize solar gain, with periodic privacy walls and private balconies. The solar diagram demonstrates how the building orientation provides maximum heat gain in the winter and maximum shad-ing in the summer.

The unique form of the Montessori School was developed from an animation where abstracted floor slabs are warped with turbulence forces.

In order to develop the dynamic shifting floor plates, I used an animation program which simulated different turbulence forces being applied to floor masses. Moments where the cloths come into contact with each other are moments extracted to form structural support and passage in the building. Areas where large and small cavern-ous like spaces are formed allow for different types of learning spaces.

Different types of faceting on the surfaces of the floor plates encourage different condi-tions for play activity and learning. Section one demonstrates the different conditions between floor plates, where connectivity provides structural support and open areas allow for passage and dedicated learning space. Section two shows color coded information to demonstrate how different types of spaces serve different functions based on the degree of faceting in the surface. Yellow areas are highly faceted and make great spaces for kin-esthetic activity while pink spaces are less faceted and are better for quiet activities such as language and math.

This four story brownstone, built in 1885, is currently in the design development phase. The renovation will include the complete restoration of the bay window and a new greenhouse addition in the rear of the building. The building is Landmark status and re-quires approval from the Landmarks Preservation Commission. Therefore, the facade will be restored to match the building's original conditions.

On the interior, the historic elements will require restoration but are to be preserved as well as possible. The core of the western side of the building, however, is to be completely renovated, which includes the addition of an elevator. New bulkheads are required for egress stair and elevator on the roof.

This five story high end residential development in Greenwich Village required detailed construc-tion documents and collaboration with contractors and developers for the interior renovation.

Construction documents created for this project included elevations of all rooms, electrical and flooring plans, reflected ceiling plans, and all custom millwork de-sign. Our firm was also involved in the construction phase, reviewing progress and quality during regular site visits, and collaboration with contractors and the project manager.

Our firm specified all architectural finishes and details. My responsibilities included the creation of the complete construction document set. In addition, my experience working in construction and carpentry allowed me to collaborate easily with the contractors to interpreting the design and ensuring quality.

The construction of this Landmarks designated townhouse renovation in Tribeca was managed by a development company. Our firm collaborated with the developer to specify all architectural finishes. I collaborated directly with a variety of vendors, including custom lighting and kitchen designers.

Again, my role in this project included site visits and close communication with the gen-eral contractor and developers to ensure quality. Specialized high end finishes, including wall paneling and vanities, were custom designed for each unit.

1 Proposed plan This small interior renovation is a good example of the level of detail typically in-volved in the generation of construction documents. I have experience on numerous projects quickly creating highly detailed documents to obtain work permits. Careful interaction and review with the client and knowledge of New York building code are an integral part of renovation projects.

These elevations are good examples of the level of detail involved in the gen-eration of CD sets. Both the Department of Buildings and strict building co-ops have stringent requirements, and being as detailed as possible helps expedite the process of getting approval for construction.

The animation is based on the double helix structure of the Arganzuela Footbridge. The animation begins with the assembly of one unit of the bridge. Next the bridge is fully formed and then warped. These images describe the bridge as an assembled unit. The final image is an existing plan of the footbridge.

A warping mass of steel strips twists around a series of rooms in this installation for Esquire Magazine. The steel extends down to the floor in two places to function as furniture.

OverviewBench detailAxonDetail

In this project we developed a warping installation that serves as both furniture and wall fixture. Strips of steel, riveted together, comprise the form of the installation. The warp and weave of the metal forms an intriguing space. Texturally, the steel is cold and hard edged but the contrast of the form’s motion is an intriguing element.

Extruded polystyrene foam in a unique, molded pattern, produces these lightweight, colorful stools. The geometry is an irregular faceted mass, which was designed to resemble cut stone. The material gives to the touch, providing a juxtaposition between form and feeling.

The McQueen I stool is all about fun and functional. It’s pure geometry, squishy and plush. Sit on it or throw it around; you can enjoy it in any direction or orientation.

The lasercut acrylic appears too insubstantial to support weight, especially given large, distressed perforations in the sides of the stools, but the carefully designed assembly method allows these thin and perforated stools to support weight.
