The first step I took was to make a Background Copy. Then I selected everything except the model herself.

Page 2: Step by Step - Contents Page

I made the background Black &White and left the model in colour.

Page 3: Step by Step - Contents Page

I then adjusted the saturation as I think the image was too yellow.

Page 4: Step by Step - Contents Page

Finally, I cropped the image as there was a plug socket in the frame. Also, the model was not centre frame in the first place. By cropping the right side of the image, it

allows the model to be centre frame.

Page 5: Step by Step - Contents Page

I had firstly made a background copy of the first image of the bench. I want to merge two pictures together. This will help represent the two natures of the music artist.

Page 6: Step by Step - Contents Page

Next, I copied the second image on top of the original. This then created a new layer which means the other layers would not be effected by any changes made on this

image.

Page 7: Step by Step - Contents Page

I used the Quick Selection Tool to select the background of the second image, leaving out my model and the prop.

Page 8: Step by Step - Contents Page

I erased everything that was selected, leaving my model and the prop. This will then make it easier to merge the images together.

Page 9: Step by Step - Contents Page

Going back to the first image, I selected everything except the model and used the adjustment tool to make the background black and white. This will help the model

stand out in the image.

Page 10: Step by Step - Contents Page

With the background still selected, I clicked Filter > Blur > Gaussian Blur. This allowed only the background to be blurred which gives the effect that the foreground (the

model) is in focus whereas the background is defocused.

Selecting the inverse (the model), I adjusted the curves of the image, which alters the contrast and tone of the image.

Page 12: Step by Step - Contents Page

I selected the second image and then modified the curves, as I did with the first image. I then moved the image around so it looks like the model is sat on the same bench as

the first image.

The background for my front cover is going to be black so I changed the background colour of the A4 document.

Page 15: Step by Step - Contents Page

Using my front cover masthead, I copied and pasted the masthead onto this page. I then rotated it 90 degrees.

Page 16: Step by Step - Contents Page

I used Word Art to create the title for the contents page. I used Haettenschweiler font and alternated between purple and white for each line. I saw this layout on an existing

magazine’s contents page and thought it was unique and so I used it on my contents page.

Page 17: Step by Step - Contents Page

I inserted the images that I had previously edited. These will represent some of the articles within the magazine.

Page 18: Step by Step - Contents Page

Using Haettenschweiler font, I added the page numbers and article name to the bottom of the image. I used white font colour and added a shadow for the text to help

it stand out.

Using Haettenschweiler font, I added the page numbers and article name to the bottom of the image. I used white font colour and added a shadow for the text to help

it stand out.

Page 20: Step by Step - Contents Page

Using Haettenschweiler font, I added the page numbers and article names on the bottom right of the page. I used purple for the numbers and white for the article

names. This helps add colour to the contents page.

Page 21: Step by Step - Contents Page

The next step I took was to add the sub-text underneath each article name. This gives the reader an idea of what the article is about. I also changed the name of one of the articles from “Kim & Kanye” to “Super-Couples”. I shifted all the text to the right and

also shifted the masthead and title to be the centre of the space at the top.

Page 22: Step by Step - Contents Page

I added the page number, issue and website to the bottom left of the page. I used Agency FB font and used the same shade of purple as the rest of the page. I did this to

follow the conventions of a magazine.

Page 23: Step by Step - Contents Page

I decided to change the layout of my page because there was not enough text. I also didn’t follow the regular conventions of having “Features” and “Regulars”. By using

one single image, I sectioned off the text and added more articles. I added “hot news” and “exclusive” however. I think it makes it seem more like a gossip magazine so I may

remove it in the future. I used Agency FB font for the text.

Page 24: Step by Step - Contents Page

I wanted to experiment with different colours for the contents page. I experimented with the colours I had used in my audience research (red, purple and blue). I decided

to go with the blue and grey mark scheme because I think the colours go well together and it’s easier to read. However this could lead to the magazine being gender specific,

when really, it’s open to everyone.

Page 25: Step by Step - Contents Page

I changed the font to the article descriptions to Times New Roman. I think by doing this, it makes the text easily readable even though it is a small sized font.

Page 26: Step by Step - Contents Page

I split the page into 3 even columns as I have seen this in many other magazine contents page layouts. I split it into 2 sections, “Regulars” and “Features”.

Page 27: Step by Step - Contents Page

I added one last picture to the page, placing it under the “Truly Blessed” article as the image relates to the article.

Page 28: Step by Step - Contents Page

There was a small gap under the features which needed to be filled so I added the small tabs that show the “Editorial” and “Subscriptions” pages.
