My mojo recreation

Open a new photoshop. Choose international paper size A4, which is the correct dimensions for a magazine cover.

Page 2: Step by step

Use the rectangular lasso tool to highlight the entire dimensions off the background. Click on the paint bucket tool and choose the colour of black, then just click on the area and it changes, making it the same as the original cover.

Page 3: Step by step

I pasted the mojo logo from an original image that I found online. Firstly you must save the image to your documents- you then go back to photoshop and click file, open and then find the image. Once I had imported the image, it was a black text on a white background, so I went to image, adjustments and invert- this made the text become white and the background black as you see.

Page 4: Step by step

I copied an image of a standard lightning bolt from google and went through the same process as the last slide to import the image.I then copied the layer that the image one so that there was 2 bolts. This allowed me to edit the image by using the paint bucket tool, making one blue and one red as on the original cover. I then moved the red one on top of the blue one to make it look like a red bolt with a blue outline. I then finally merged the 2 layers together to make it one finished lightning bolt.

Page 5: Step by step

For the main image, I took the image myself and saved it to my documents, I then pressed file, open, then found the correct image and imported it on to photoshop. The image originally had his shirt on, but using the magic eraser tool, I managed to cut it out and leave the image you see here. I also used the colour replacement tool to change the small remaining part of his t-shirt from a white colour to a shade similar to his skin, which made it look more professional and similar to the original.

Page 6: Step by step

To create the effect on the eye, I used the elliptical marquee tool to select a circle around the eye.I then picked up the magic eraser tool and clicked inside the highlighted section, removing the bolt over his eye. This allowed his eye to be showing in a similar way as to what it does on the original.

Page 7: Step by step

On the main image, I clicked adjustments then hue/saturation.I turned the hue and saturation levels down to the lowest possible, which made the image turn greyscale, replicating the image I was recreating

Page 8: Step by step

I then inserted a circle for the puff using the ellipse tool. I again used the paint bucket tool to change the colour to red.

Page 9: Step by step

I added text using the text tool, and changed the font to kartika, as it is more resembling of the original text featured on the mojo cover. I added the rest of the text using the same font, but changed the colour of ‘collections’ to blue using the edit text feature, which allows you to change the colour to the one you desire. I then transformed each part of the text separately using the free transform tool (CTRL+T) and made them fit perfectly in the circle, resembling the original puff.

Page 10: Step by step

I then cropped the ‘bowie’ text from the original image of the front cover. I again used the magic eraser tool to delete the background. I then selected the text using the rectangular marquee tool, and copied(CTRL+C) and pasted(CTRL+V) it to my main cover page

Page 11: Step by step

I then used the colour picker tool to make the lightning bolt the same colour as the circle, I did this by clicking on the circle which picked up that colour, and then I used the paint bucket tool to fill the bolt in the same shade. Thismade it look more professional and similar to the original.

Page 12: Step by step

I used the text tool again to add further text. I changed the font to Franklin Gothic to match that of the original. I also made it italic to fit the style.

Page 13: Step by step

I then wanted to make the lightning bolt of similar shape to that of the original so that it would fit on his face. I clicked edit, transform then clicked on warp, this allowed me to manipulate the shape of the lightning bolt to how I want it.

Page 14: Step by step

I warped the bolt to fit on his face like the original as stated in the last slide. I then added the rest of the text present on the cover using the text tool, and edited the colours using the text editor.

Page 15: Step by step

I then added the barcode which I found online. I transformed the size and rotated to fit the same as it does on the original cover, I did this again using the free transform tool(CTRL+T)

Page 16: Step by step

I then again found the text that is present over the mojo logo, it reads ‘The Music Magazine’. I imported the image and free transformed it to the correct size.

Page 17: Step by step

I finally changed the colour of the text that reads ‘The Music Magazine’ to blue. I again did this by using the paint bucket tool.I also used the eraser tool over his eye, this allowed it to blend in with the background much better. I used a soft eraser to give it softer edges to make it look more natural and professional.
