1 Cover the back of the porthole
spacer with a piece of tape,
making sure it is completely
sealed. Weigh out the minimum
amount of resin suggested and
mix thoroughly. Use the cocktail
sticks to add a light tint of ocean
colour, and carefully fill one-third of
the bezel. Leave the bezel to cure
for at least 6 hours.
2 Mix up a second batch of resin and
tint as before, mixing in pinch of glitter
as well. Gently place a tiny cog on
the layer in the porthole, and fill the
bezel to two-thirds full. Leave to set
for another 6 hours.
Repeat step 1, adding more tiny cogs,
to fill the bezel to the top. Allow it to
cure fully. Add a jump ring to the top
hole (see Opening and Closing Jump
Rings on page 15).

4 Press the large crystal into the
clay, (scoop out some of the clay
behind it if it has a very deep
pointed back.) Smooth the clay
back over its edges to hold it
in place and soften the edges.
Spray the texture plate with water
and press it all over the marbled
clay. If some areas seem bare,
use additional cogs and tools to
texture the clay still further. 5
Press the large cogs into the clay, and
then have the clay smoothed down
around the spokes with a modelling
tool to secure firmly. Make sure they
don’t extend too far sideways from
the original backpIate.
Embellish the clay with silver powder.
Bake the piece according to the
manufacturer’s instructions, using the
full amount of baking time.6
