Danish steam frigate Jylland room was built in the years 1857-1862Copenhagen and remained in service until 1874.

May 9, 1864 took part in the Battle of joined Austrian andPrussian fleets

at Heligoland.From 1874-1886 she served as the yacht of King Christian IX.

The reconstructed ship can be seen in Ebeltoft, Denmark

At that time she had impressive dimensions:71m hull length, total length 94.19 m Width 13.19 m, draft 6m

Masts rose to a height of 53m and the sail area was 1881m2Steam drive was a steam engine with a capacity of 970 kW.

She reached the speed of 12 knots under sails and 11 knots sailing with steam power..

Galion is the goddess of the sea Ran figure.It was to ensure the safety of the ship.

Welcome on board. During operation of the ship this deckwas sanded by the crew using bricks twice a day.

She was armed with 44 guns located on the weather deck and main deck.

Each gun has crew was up to 9 people.

Well trained crew can give a shot every 4 minutes.

Gunpowder loads was supplied from powder room by 28 boys 12-14 year old called powder monks.

Battery 30-pounders guns evokes respect even today.

Hand bilge pumps and racks for guns on main deck.

Propeller weighing 9.5 tonnes during navigation under sailhas been raised to the interior of the hull

by muscle strength of 200 seamen.

Steam engine and boilers have not survived to our times,it looked like a steam engine with a capacity of 970kW

Anchor capstan on main deck was hand driven by 60 sailors.

Hand driven capstan on weather deck was used for raising yards and sails.

Companionways with tents . Containers for hammocks above the bulwark. Hammocks also served as lifejackets.

Battle of the Danish fleet with Prussian and Austrian ships was the last sea battleof wooden ships sailing in the linear order.

Austrian-Prussian fleet back of after a fire on the frigate Schwarzenberg but Jylland was also damaged.

Statistics of the battle:The battle lasted for two hours, frigate gave 611 cannon shots , her crew at

that time drank 577 liters of beer, 48 liters of stronger alcoholic beverages.

Ship’s surgeon operates injured sailors. From 31 sailors injured and amputatedlegs or hands only 9 survived.
