Lehigh Valley has been around for centuries — it was a thriving community long before America even became a nation. It should be no surprise that the area is home to an exceptional number of “haunted” locations and more than a few “true-life” horror stories.

Paranormal investigating has experienced a meteoric rise in popularity, thanks in part to television shows like Paranormal Challenge, Ghost Hunters, Ghost Adventures, My Ghost Story and others. Many parts of the country are being explored for signs of the paranormal. Lehigh Valley is no exception.

Discover Lehigh Valley has partnered with many local destinations to accommodate paranormal enthusiasts and skeptics. Take care on your journey through the haunted corners of Lehigh Valley. And remember, sometimes the truth is scarier than fiction.

BUCKEYE TAVERN

Late in the evening, strange noises are often heard when the staff is cleaning up. The smell of frying bacon comes from the basement, where food was prepared long ago.

There are two possibilities for these odd noises and smells that people talk about – a little girl who died in the tavern or an older gentleman who can be sensed on the walkway between the parking lot and front door.

MUSEUM OF INdIAN CULTURE

Guests spending the night in the upstairs lounge have been awakened at 3 a.m. by the sound of loud footsteps, made by someone wearing heavy boots, walking down the hall and stopping at the lounge doorway.

Occasionally, a young girl has been seen carrying fl owers. Some people have heard a bouncing ball and smelled the aroma of fresh fl owers. Museum visitors have heard knocking in the library, seen doors swinging back and forth and have heard random loud thumps. People also have said that they experienced the feeling of being constantly watched.

Native Americans who spend the night are often awakened in the early-morning hours to a “wolf howling.” Flint-knapping sounds can be heard in the basement. Many have returned to the building after locking up the night before to fi nd the front-door security bar on the fl oor.

WYDNoR HALL INN

There are many accounts of a girl passing through the walls of the house, always in the same place each time. It is thought that she is the ghost of a child who drowned in the nearby Black Creek River.

On the second and third fl oors, guests have said they felt like they were being watched by a man’s face without features or an outline of a face.

A third account is of a ghost smoking a pipe, seen in front of the fi replace in the sitting room, wearing an old-fashioned tweed jacket with elbow patches.
