STATIVE VERB

Stative verb is a verb that express an static situation ( no action), it expressing existance or a state rather than an action

these verb aren’t used in continuous tenses (like the present continuous, or the future continuous).

we can group verbs that show a state in the following ways:

Verbs that show thought:know, believe, understand etc.

Verbs that show possession :have, own, want, contain etc.

Verbs that show senses:hear, see, smell etc.

Verbs that show emotion:love, hate, want, need etc.

Linking verbs do not express action - they connect the subject of the verb to additional information about the subject.

They are sometimes called copula or copular verbs.

To be : is, am, are, was, were

Linking verb (to be) are used to connect the subject and predicate (noun, gerund, adjective, adverb of prepositional phrase)

E.g.:

He is my friend (Noun)

My hobby is reading. (Gerund)

They are happy. (Adjective)

She is here. (Adverb)

We are in the classroom. (Adverb/ prep. Phrase)

LINKING VERB NON-TO BE

=> Connect the subject of the verb to additional information about the subject

=> ADJECTIVE

To be is, am, are, was, were
