Comparison of a Total Revenue in the Previous Period

FINA (Financial Agency)’s data show that the total construction income in 2016, compared to the total construction income in 2015 (HRK 40,311,389,776), has increased by 5.73% to HRK 42,622,903.671. According to the same source, the total construction income in relation to the pre-crisis year 2008, was decreased by 38,43% (HRK 69.230.000.000). Out of this total, the micro companies realized HRK 9,388,191,757, small companies earned HRK 12,334,024,608, medium-high HRK 10,277,864,946, while large companies realized HRK 10,622,822,360 in revenue.

Value of works done in the first half of 2017

The value of works done in the first half (January-June) of 2017 amounts to HRK 9,324,743,000 (€ 1,243,299,600), up by 4.2% compared to the same period of 2016 (HRK 9,220,032,000).

Looking at the quarter periods, the value of works done in the second quarter of 2017 was 3.0% higher than in the same period of 2016. The value of works done in the second quarter of 2017 was 36.9% higher than in the whole of 2016. 48.8% refers to construction of buildings and 51.2% to other constructions.

Value of New Commissions in the First Half of 2017

The value of new Commissions in the first half of the year (January-June) 2017 amounted to HRK 8,441,456,000 (€ 1,125,527,000) and was by 17.4% higher compared to the same period of 2016. As a result of quarterly trends, the value of new Commissions increased by 12.2% in the second quarter of 2017 than in the same period of 2016. Out of this, 53.8% refers to the construction of buildings and 46.2% refers to other constructions.

Number of companies, number of employees, productivity in the first half of 2017

For several years the trend of a growing number of small construction companies has continued, while the number of large and medium-sized companies has decreased. Regarding the activities of business entities, the number of active companies in the first half of 2017 has increased by 6%, compared to the same period of 2016.

According to CBS data, the number of employees in the construction sector has fallen by 3.2% in June 2017 compared to June 2016. Compared to June 2015, the total number in construction has decreased by 1.8%.

Physical Volume of Construction Works

Looking at developments at a cumulative level, the construction works in the period from January to June 2017 have increased by 1.7% compared to the period from January to June 2016. Construction works in June 2017 compared to June 2016 are higher for 2.3%. According to seasonally adjusted and calendar-adjusted indices, the volume of construction works in June 2017 compared to May 2017 is higher by 0.1%.

In the structure of the hours worked on construction sites, there is a slightly lower share of works on buildings (49%) than works on other constructions (51%). At the same time, more than half of the construction works were carried out on new buildings (54.8%) and on reconstructions, repairs and maintenance (45.2%).

Issued Approvals for Construction- Building Permits

In June 2016, 736 building permits were issued, which is 17.1% higher than June 2016. The total number of building permits issued in January-June period of 2017 is 4,629 and in comparison with the same period of 2016 this is higher by 31.5%.

In June 2017, according to the type of construction, 82.6% of the permits were issued for buildings and 17.4% for other civil engineering works. According to the types of construction, 70.5% of the permits were issued for new buildings and 29.5% for reconstruction. According to the issued building permits in June 2017, it is planned to build 737 apartments of an average surface area of 104.9 m².

Residential Building in 2016

According to the CBS data, in the year 2016 a total of 7,809 new residences were completed, which is by 3.1% more than in 2015 with an average useful floor area of 94.8 m2. The number of residences is 69.5% lower than in 2007.

According to the type of works, the prevailing number of residences (89.4%) was built

in new buildings, 10.0% by upgrading / upgrading of existing buildings, and only 0.6% by converting the non-residential space into a dwelling.

Prices of New Residences

According to the latest available CBS data, the average price of new apartments per 1 m2 in the first half of 2017 was HRK 10,338, or by 4.4% higher than in the second half of 2016, i.e. by 3.3% less than in the whole of 2015., 1.8% lower than in 2013, and lower by 14.5% (HRK 12,095) compared to 2008.

Number of Companies in Economy and Construction

Number of Construction Companies in the RC in the First Half of 2017

The comparison of the total number of legal entities in the Croatian economy on 30th of June 2016 remained the same due to the same date in 2015, while construction industry has increased the number of legal entities by 6% (from 22.942 to 24.439). There are about 6% more active companies (increase from 13,063 to 13,852).

In terms of the structure of activities of the entities in crafts and free professions in the construction (7,583) at the end of June 2017 was 1.6% lower than at the end of June 2016 (7706).

The comparison of the number of legal entities in the Register of the CBS, in relation to the number of active legal entities in administrative registers, shows that the share of active legal persons in the economy of the Republic of Croatia is 58%, slightly less in construction (56.7%).

Changes in registered entities are divided into three groups: establishment, deletion and alignment. They show that the number of foundations is increasing in the given period, and the number of alignment and deletion slowly stagnates.

Number of employees in legal entities

Number of Persons in Paid Employment in the Construction Sector in the First Half of 2017

In June 2017, the number of employees in legal entities in the Republic of Croatia was 1,163,972, out of which 68,736 were employed in the construction sector (69,420 at the end of June 2016). As compared to June 2016, the number of persons employed in legal entities has decreased by 2.0%, while the total number of employed persons in construction sector has decreased by 4.2%.

Compared to June 2016, the total number of employees in the Republic of Croatia increased by 3.45%, while the total number of employees in construction sector has droped by 1.8% (69.992 at the end of June 2016).

Comparison of the same period in 2017 and 2016 - from January to June – shows a decrease in the number of employed persons in the Republic of Croatia is 1.8%, while in the construction sector there is a decrease of 3.2%

Paid Net Salaries in the Croatian Economy & Construction Sector

Salaries provided by legal entities in the RC’s economy and construction sector in the First Half (Semester) of 2017

For the period from January to June 2017, the average monthly paid net salary per person employed with a legal entity (company) in the Republic of Croatia was HRK 5,960, which is nominally by more than 5% and realistically higher by more than 3,9% than in the same period of 2016.

The average monthly paid off net earning per person in employment in legal entities of the Republic of Croatia for the month of June 2017 is nominally higher by 5.6% and realistically higher by 4.9% as compared to the same month of 2016.

For the January to June 2017 period, the average monthly gross salary per person employed with a legal entity (company) in the Republic of Croatia was HRK 8,014, which is by nominal increase of 3,4% and real increase by 2,3% in relation to the same period of 2016. The average monthly gross earning per person in employment in legal entities in the Republic of Croatia for the month of June 2017 was nominally higher by 4.2% and by 3.5% really higher than in the same month of the previous year.
