According to geographical location, the Federation of the Bosnia andHerzegovina is on theborder of two bigclimatic zone. The influenceofmoderate continental climate from the Panonean lowlands is presentfrom the north, and on the south there is influence of theMediterranean climate from the Adriatic Sea.

Mediterranean zone (the valley of the river Neretva and itstributaries, as well as the surrounding region fields) because of theproximity of the Adriatic Sea have a Mediterranean climate, i.e. thecontinental Mediterranean climate. The main characteristics of theabove-mentioned climate are mild winters and bright summers.Medium temperatures in January range from 3.0 to 5.0°C, while inJuly they exceed 24.0°C, but the amplitude is lower than in thenorthern and central parts of the country. The absolute maximumtemperature ranges up to 45.0°C.

The amounts of precipitation are very high (from 1000 l/m2 to 1800l/m2 ). The highest amount of precipitation occurs in the colder part oftheyear, while in the summer months the precipitation is relatively low,so drought periods are possible in that part of the year. Snowis a rareoccurrence.
