93.1 WPOC 2015 CMA Broadcast Awards Entry

93.1 WPOC is Baltimore’s Country Station.

iHeartMedia’s 93.1 WPOC touches our audience of 552,300 through community driven

partnerships and events, serving the country listening audience of the Baltimore/Annapolis

metropolitan area. Over the last year, WPOC has impacted thousands of lives through active

partnerships with many charities, participation in community events, and once in a lifetime

opportunities for listeners.

WPOC’s 12-book average share for June 2014 through May 2015 was 8.0. WPOC was the #1

station in Baltimore for the same rating period, 1.1 shares ahead of Urban WERQ. WPOC has

been the #1 station in Baltimore for 10 of the 13 books from June 2014 through May 2015

and has not been outside the Top 3 Persons 25-54 in over a year!

The Laurie DeYoung Show wins the CMA Broadcast

Award for Major Market Personality of the Year

On October 14, 2014, Laurie DeYoung received a

phone call to the studio from Luke Bryan congratulating

The Laurie DeYoung Show on winning the CMA

Broadcast Award for Major Market Personality of the

Year. On November 5, 2014, DeYoung traveled to

Nashville to accept the award on behalf of the morning

show during the CMA Awards Telecast. This was

DeYoung’s second CMA Broadcast Award, previously

receiving the award for Large Market Personality of the

Year 10 years earlier in 1994.

Girls with Guitars Laughter, tears, music, and story telling makes Girls With Guitars another one of those

“Once in a Lifetime” events. The 2014 lineup included such star-power as Sara Evans and

Jana Kramer, along with newcomers RaeLynn, Maddie & Tae, and Kelsea Ballerini.

Laurie DeYoung’s Bosom Buddy Girls Night Out Thirteen years ago, with a single idea of helping raise awareness for the fight against

breast cancer, Laurie DeYoung’s Bosom Buddy event was created. 2014’s event was a

“Girls Night Out” that featured fantastic food and drinks, a country memorabilia auction,

and a performance from Gary Allan, who not only played, but also answered questions

posed by Laurie and the audience, and even signed a guitar and auctioned it off at the end

of his set. The 2014 Bosom Buddy Girls Night Out event raised a record $15,900 for Susan

G. Komen for the Cure Maryland – the most this event has ever raised!

They thrilled The Hippodrome Theatre’s

enthusiastic crowd with their stories and

songs, which helped raise nearly $5,000 for

Susan G. Komen for the Cure Maryland.

St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital The WPOC St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital Radiothon, which occurs every

December, has helped raise over $2.3 million over the past eight years with donations from

our generous listeners who become “Partners in Hope” during our two-day Radiothon

broadcast. Our many St. Jude events throughout the year, which includes our Hot Summer

Nights concert series and the St Jude Country Music Marathon in Nashville, and an online

auction of items donated by artists and our sponsors, have also contributed to the

overwhelming amount of money raised for St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital. The

2014 Radiothon raised a record-breaking $330,335

Maryland Today Public Affairs Show Jeffrey St. Pierre hosts Maryland Today, the weekly Public

Affairs program, highlighting issues important to the Baltimore

community. The American Red Cross (Blood Donation),

Baltimore County Police (Aggressive Drivers and Holiday

Travel), Maryland Food Bank (hunger and homelessness),

Consumer Credit Counseling Service of Maryland and

Delaware (identity theft and mortgage scams/foreclosure) are

just a few of the guests and topics from this past year.

Baltimore Riots In April 2014, following the funeral of Freddie Gray, who died in police custody, the city of

Baltimore erupted in violence and chaos. The unrest was followed by several days of

protest while the city remained under a curfew, leaving many residents fearful, and many

businesses suffering from property destruction and decreased revenue. WPOC kept

listeners updated during the riots and the days that followed via social media outreach, live

updates on the air, and through PSAs voiced by morning show talent Laurie DeYoung

directing people to help, donate, and volunteer to bring Baltimore back to normalcy.

Social Media Leverage Whether it’s a huge concert announcement, a national news item, local political race, or an

hilarious meme, WPOC’s social media reach consistently engages, informs, and entertains

it’s listeners online. With over 67,000 Facebook Friends, nearly 7,000 Twitter followers, and

1,300 Instagram followers, the online WPOC community is already impressive, and

growing quickly.

Community Events WPOC partners with many charities, causes and non-profits in the community to help

bring awareness and funds to those who need it most. Over the last year, we have

partnered with the Baltimore Women’s Classic 5K Run benefiting Cancerve, Fort Meade

for their Independence Day Celebration, The Casey Cares Foundation, Susan G Komen

Maryland, KidsPeace, the American Red Cross, and Dress For Success Baltimore.

WPOC’s Sunday in the Country “Sunday in the Country” is WPOC’s benchmark signature concert. 2014 marked the 14th

year for Sunday in the Country, and it marked the first year that the concert became a

two-day festival. Sunday in the Country is a guaranteed sell-out event, but 2014 sold out

quicker than ever before – in just four days – so we added Saturday in the Country.

The two-day festival lineup included Jake Owen, Eli Young Band, Cassadee Pope,

Thompson Square, Chase Rice and more. While it’s a highly-anticipated event for

Baltimore’s Country fans, it’s also a proven non-traditional sales event that attracts the

Marines, Army, and various other vendors to interact with the 15,000+

concertgoers. We’ve teamed up with the local FOX news station as media partners and

they broadcast the line up announcement live from the WPOC studio each year.

Hot Summer Nights Concert Series WPOC’s Hot Summer Nights Concert Series continued for it’s second year in 2014. We

took some big names in country music, and put them in front of an intimate crowd, at an

unlikely venue – an outdoor wedding garden! This combination proved to be another once-

in-a-lifetime experience for those lucky enough to score tickets. The artists – The Swon

Brothers, Scotty McCreery, and Danielle Bradbery – played stripped-down, acoustic sets,

interacted with the audience, and took the time to meet each concertgoer after the show. A

portion of each ticket sold was donated to St Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
