We are pleased to report that the Annual Fund exceeded its goal of $400, 000 for the 2015-2016 academic year. Through the generous support of the Academy Community, over $400,000 was contributed to the Annual Fund. Further, general and directed gifts saw a significant increase.

This past year saw a broadening and deepening of support for the Academy from all members of the community. Led by contributions by 100% of trustees, 90% of faculty & staff and 65% of current families, Alumni giving saw a dramatic increase in participation and donations.

The Auction Event, A Hot Night in Havana, contributed nearly half of the Annual Fund total. An inspired effort by our Auction Chairs, Elizabeth Bifulco and Joy Stapleton, as well as the many volunteers, resulted in record attendance of 250 guests as well as record contributions. The Auction has grown steadily and impressively each of the past five years demonstrating a broad community commitment to the Academy.

The Parents’ League, under the leadership of Michelle Savino, and through the efforts

of the many dedicated parent volunteers, continues to be an inspiring advocate for the development of the Academy. Through its many and varied events, it provides community-building and educational and fundraising opportunities that enhance the learning environment for your children.

It has been a privilege to serve as the Development Chair because of the friendship and support that I have received in this very special community. It is no wonder that we enjoy the “hidden curriculum” where lessons of goodness and kindness abound. I am certain that after working with all of you, parents and friends of the Academy, it is because of you and your example that we are able to create a unique and familial feel to our school.

Senior Class Gift

The entire Class of 2016 participated in making a senior gift to Staten Island Academy. They chose to add a tree to our arboretum. Don’t let this Ruby Falls Weeping Redbud tree’s weak and shallow stature during the winter months fool you; during the spring and summer, this tree takes a beautiful shape with red heart-shaped leaves… full of life and love like the Class of 2016. It is located in the front lawn outside the Commons.

A dedication ceremony was also held on June 4, 2016 for the Keith E. Johnson ’60 tree dedication during our summer Milestone Reunion.
