Chapter 1 COVID-19

Livestock Department

COVID – 19 Guidelines As the State Fair of Louisiana plans to welcome guests to the 115th edition of the State Fair of Louisiana we will

continue to monitor the current COVID-19 situation. While health and safety are our top priority, The State Fair of

Louisiana will follow the latest guidance from the CDC, Local, and State Government. At current the State of

Louisiana is open and under no restrictions. If COVID-19 guidelines must be implemented, the State Fair of

Louisiana will follow the guidelines listed below.

As the State Fair of Louisiana plans to welcome guests to the 115th edition of the State Fair of Louisiana, strict

protocols will be considered to ensure the health and safety of our livestock exhibitors, staff, judges, spectators,

volunteers, and guests. While health and safety are our top priority, The State Fair of Louisiana will make

adjustments to policies and operations in order to provide a safe and fun atmosphere to our livestock exhibitors. The

State Fair of Louisiana will follow the latest guidance from the CDC including social distancing protocols, and

increased sanitation. The State Fair will monitor conditions and will make adjustments as additional information is

made available.

General Protocols:

Prior to attending all guests, exhibitors, staff and attendees will be asked to review our health policy

ensuring that everyone has been healthy for at least 14 days prior to their visit. Anyone exhibiting signs of

cough, fever, nausea, vomiting, and more will be asked to stay home.

All judges, volunteers, exhibitors and staff will be required to wear mandatory face mask/coverings while

on duty and interacting with guest and exhibitors. Facial coverings will cover the nose and mouth.

Social Distancing Protocols:

We will encourage a 6-foot separation. Staff will be assigned to monitor areas and ensure that social

distancing is promoted. We will have clear markers around the facility reminding and helping guests stay a

safe distance from one another.

We will introduce a safety barrier in our offices to separate guests from employees.

We will encourage social distancing in our spectator / seating areas by closing every other row of our

bleachers to promote a 6-foot separation. Spectators will be limited and only allowed in designated areas.

We will utilize additional space in show arenas to allow for social distancing. Make ready areas will be

limited to exhibitors and one guest, minimizing the number of people in one area and providing a 6-foot

separation.

Our schedule times have been altered to help minimize gatherings and limit the number of people in one

area at any given time. Providing a safe environment for our exhibitors and guests.

Sanitization and Disinfection:

We will deploy cleaning team members, increasing our efforts to sanitize and disinfect high traffic and

touch point areas frequently.

We have increased the number of hand sanitizer stations throughout the livestock area providing our guests

with free hand sanitizer for healthy clean hands. An increased number of hand sanitizer stations will be

placed in key high traffic areas.

We will continuously monitor and sanitize restrooms frequently. A staff member will be assigned to each

restroom area and will disinfect, clean, and sanitize all high touch point areas within the restrooms

frequently.

To maximize sanitation efforts and promote clean germ-free hands, we will provide and encourage the use

of hand sanitizer at the entrance and exit of all areas including but not limited to seating areas, offices, etc.

Training, Signage, & Communication:

Livestock employees, volunteers, and judges will undergo training/in-service instructing them on how to

stay safe and keep our attendees safe and healthy.

We will display a vast amount of social distancing and hygiene signs. Signage will be placed in high traffic

areas and strategic locations, reminding guests to practice social distancing and hygiene.

We will make special public service announcements before and after each show, and periodically

encouraging guests to stay safe, germ free, and to social distance. Special messages will also appear on our

TV message boards.

Chapter 2 Judges

Judges Spot Light

Cattle Judges:

Mr. Keaton Dodd: Mr. Keaton Dodd lives in Wharton, TX where he serves

as the director of genetics and customer service for B.R. Cutrer Incorporated, a

large Brahman seedstock operation. Mr. Dodd also runs a small herd of Hereford

and Charolais cattle. Keaton is graduate from Texas A&M where he was a

member of the 2013 National Champion Livestock judging team. After graduating

from college, he spent 6 years as both assistant and head livestock judging coach

at Texas A&M.

Mr. PJ Budler: Mr. PJ Budler was raised on a 5th generation cattle

operation in South Africa. At age 15 he founded BonHaven Beef Cattle. Between

1996 and 2012 he grew BonHaven to 1,500 registered females in locations in 3

Southern African countries. The Hereford, Angus, Red Angus, Braford and

Brahman herds achieved much success winning numerous National Shows and

setting auction records on the continent.

In 2012, PJ relocated to Texas, USA, where he is the International Business

Manager for Trans Ova Genetics. This position, together with running the annual

“Champion of the World” Competition, judging shows, speaking at events and doing cattle consulting has

taken him to 48 US states and 95 different countries thus far.

Mr. Budler has judged 58 different cattle breeds in 34 countries. In 2017 PJ became the first ever cattle

judge to judge a National Show on all 6 continents.

Chapter 3 General Rules & Regulations

General Rules & Regulations

Section I – Interpretations, Amendments, & Violations

1. The State Fair of Louisiana (SFL) reserves to its Livestock Committee Board the final and absolute right to

interpret these rules and regulations and arbitrarily settle and determine all matters, questions, and

differences in regard thereto or otherwise arising out of, connected with or incident to the Fair. The Board

of Directors hereby reserves the right to change the order of any program or prizes that may be published.

2. The management reserves the right to amend or add to these rules as it may deem advisable. In the event of

conflict of general and special rules, latter will govern.

3. The SFL supports the Ark-La-Tex Agricultural Council (ALTAC) Junior Livestock Sale Rules. Any

Violation of said rules will constitute a violation of the SFL General and Special Rules and shall subject the

exhibitor to any and all penalties outlined in the SFL General Rules and Regulations, Junior Division

General Rules & Regulations, SFL Livestock department Show Ring Code of ethics and/or International

Association of Fairs and Expositions (IAFE) National Code of Show Ring Ethics, such penalties to include

but not limited to forfeiture of all awards, privileges, premiums, sale of animal, barring from participation

in show/exhibiting all livestock and/or poultry in a 4-H or FFA event held at the annual State Fair of

Louisiana for the specified periods herein, and/or subject to such penalty as The State Fair Management

may order. The violation will also be reported to the LSU Cooperative Extension Service Livestock

Management and North American Livestock Show and Rodeo Managers Association.

4. (First Violation) If an exhibitor or exhibitor’s animal is in violation of state fair rules and regulations, in

the opinion of the livestock show management, the exhibitor will forfeit all awards, premiums and sales for

the animal. Furthermore, the exhibitor will be barred from participation in show/exhibiting all livestock

and/or poultry in a 4-H or FFA event held at the State Fair of Louisiana for a period of (1) one year.

(Second Violation) If an exhibitor or a family member (someone who legally reside in the same household

and share the same address) has another violation of the Code of Ethics rules and regulations, the family

will be barred from participation in show/exhibiting all livestock and/or poultry in a 4-H or FFA event held

at the annual State Fair of Louisiana for a period of (3) three years. The violation will also be reported to

the LSU Cooperative Extension Service Livestock Management and the North American Livestock Show

and Rodeo Managers Association (NALS RMA).

5. An exhibitor who has been disqualified from competition in a major show or has had premium withheld or

withdrawn on the grounds of rule violation or unethical practice will not be allowed to compete at the State

Fair of Louisiana Livestock Show. The Show, cooperating with the North American Livestock Show and

Rodeo Managers Association and using the Rule Infraction Database, reserves the right to refuse entry of

any exhibitor. An exhibitor found in violation of any show rules is subject to have his/her name and the

result of the rule violation submitted to the Rule Infraction Database administered by NALS RMA.

6. Rule Infraction Database: Each exhibitor understands and agrees that the State Fair of Louisiana is

entitled to report any infractions to the NALS RMA Rule Infraction Database (RID). The exhibitor agrees

that this information will be available to the membership of the NALS RMA.

7. The State Fair of Louisiana does not condone and will not permit aggressive behavior towards

animals or any other persons. Any exhibitor or anyone assisting an exhibitor is not allowed to

aggressively pop, slap, hit, or strike any animal at any time during the show or at any place on the

Show Grounds. Any aggressive or unwarranted behavior by an exhibitor or anyone assisting an

exhibitor towards another individual will not be tolerated. If such behavior is witnessed, it may

result in immediate disqualification of the exhibitor, and/or forfeiture of all fees, premiums, and

awards. In certain cases, the exhibitor or associated persons may be banned from the Grounds

and/or any future competition. Protests are not permitted

8. Usage of Electronic Devices: Neither contestants or exhibitors may be in possession of electronic

communication or storage devices at any time during judging in arena or competition. These devices

include but are not limited to cell phones, Palm Pilots, Blackberries, personal computers, pagers, radio

devices, such as a walkie talkie, and/or handless phone devices.

9. The following rules and regulations will apply to each and every department of the fair, exhibitors and

concessionaires are required to familiarize themselves with all rules.

Section 2 – Dates, Location & Arrival Information

The 114th annual State Fair of Louisiana will be held in Shreveport, LA, October 22nd – November 8th, 2021 unless

postponed or extended by the management, which it herby has the right to do, from any cause or causes whatsoever,

which it deems necessary for the good of all concerned.

Directions:

• From I-20 – Exit Jewella Avenue

• Turn North

• Turn Right onto Fair Street (this is located beside Popeyes Chicken)

• Proceeded to the Livestock Entrance – Located by Independence Stadium

• Check health papers at the Veterinarian’s office inside the livestock gate. (stop before proceeding)

• Proceed to the livestock unloading zone

o Please limit loading and unloading time to 30 minutes. All unattended vehicles will be towed at

owner’s expense.

• Keep the left lane under the stadium open at all times.

Section 3 – Entry Requirements, Fees, Passes and Stalling

1. All entries must be filed with the Livestock Office no later than the date and time specified. Entries must

be completed and paid for using the online entry process. There will be a $20.00 processing fee for any

entry not completed online. If you need assistance using the online entry process, please contact our show

office. The manager reserves the right to reject any entries offered. If entry is not made as required by the

rules, premiums will not be paid although awarded by judges.

2. If entries are incomplete, they will be returned and a $15.00 fee will be charged to the exhibitors for a

handling fee. Fees must accompany applications for entries whenever fees are applicable.

3. Entry fees will be charged on an article or animal entered for exhibit unless otherwise specified. No one,

except designated officials, will be allowed to see the entry forms until after the awards are made. All entry

forms must remain in the custody of the State Fair entry office and claim checks will be issued for certain

articles.

4. Entry forms must be completed in full and properly signed by the exhibitor or his authorized agent. Give

name of article, using the correct terminology in the premium list and the department, section and class

number. The right is reserved by the State Fair of Louisiana to interpret, revise or add to the rules as its

interest may require, and it is understood that all entries are made or accepted only upon that basis.

5. Entries in every department or class must be made on or before the desired entry deadline date. Late entries

will be accepted through midnight the day before the show. The State Fair of Louisiana management has

the right to refuse late entries due to the lack of stall space.

6. All entries of breeding animals must specify the owner’s name, the animal’s name, sex, registry number

and breed to be eligible to compete for premiums offered. All entries must be completed online or on

regulation entry forms.

7. No breeding animal can be entered or exhibited unless it has been recorded in the recognized book of

records for the respective breed, any exhibitor must produce the certificate of registry at the request of the

superintendent in charge any time during the fair. Name and registry number of sire and dam must be given

for animals under six months of age.

8. Entries must be made in the name of the bona fide owners. Should any be found to be otherwise entered,

any award by the judges will be forfeited.

9. No entry will be accepted unless entry fees accompany entry forms. If the check accompanying entries

should be returned by the bank for any reason, there will be a $35.00 service charge assessed and all fees

must be settled prior to exhibitor check in.

10. Late Fees: All Jr & Open entries entered after the deadline will be charged a late fee. The late fee will be

$50.00 for entries entered (October 1 – October 9, 2021), and $100.00 for entries entered (October 10 –

Day before the show). For details and questions, contact the show office.

11. Pens and Stalls will be assigned by show management and the State Fair of Louisiana reserves the right,

through its management, to determine the number of animals to be entered by any one firm or individual.

Due to limited space, show management reserves the right to limit space per exhibitor. Entry fees do not

dictate stall/pen spaces or assignments. Exhibitors will only receive the proper space for each animal

delivered to the State Fair of Louisiana, regardless of the number of entries made for the show.

12. Animals entered in the Junior Show must be stalled in the parish set aside for that purpose.

13. Substitutions: Substitutions are to be made only in the Livestock Show office with show management.

Substitutions not officially recorded in this manner are invalid. Substitutions will not be permitted once

Check-In is complete. Substitutions are only allowed in Open Shows. Substitutions in the Junior Shows is

strictly prohibited. Substitution may only be made within the same department.

14. Refunds: There will be no refund of fees, regardless of situation.

15. Each entry will be assigned a number. If an exhibitor is assigned a back number, this number must be

displayed by the exhibitor when the project is being judged.

16. Trim Chutes: Trim chutes are allowed. Trim chutes must have a valid “trim chute permit” displayed on

the chute. Permits may be purchased for $10.00. Trim chutes are not permitted to block any aisles or

walkways.

17. Generators: Generators are allowed, but must remain outside of the show barns per the State Fire

Marshall.

18. Trailer Parking: each livestock trailer must have a livestock trailer parking pass to be left (unhitched) on

the grounds. Livestock Trailer Parking Passes may be purchased in the Livestock Office for $10.00. The

pass must be displayed on the drives side near the trailer hitch. Trailers must be parked in the designated

Livestock Trailer Parking Lot. Any trailer left unhitched and not in a designated lot, is subject to be towed,

moved, or locked until a pass is presented.

19. Passes: Each Jr. Exhibitor will be issued one (1) complimentary gate pass valid for the duration of the

Show and may purchase additional passes. Additional Passes may be purchased in the livestock office.

Open Show Exhibitors will be issued passes by the schedule below. The exhibitor of any animal that is

entered in the junior show and the open show ill only receive one (1) complimentary pass, regardless of the

number of entries.

Agents, Advisors, Committee Members, Volunteers, and Staff will be issued one (1) complimentary season

admission photo I.D. and one (1) complimentary season parking pass. Photo I. D’s and parking passes will

be issued by Fair Management and may be picked up in the Livestock Show Office.

*Livestock Trailer Parking – each livestock trailer must have a livestock trailer parking pass to be left (unhitched)

on the grounds. Trailers must be parked in the designated Livestock Trailer Parking Lot. Any trailer left unhitched

and not in a designated lot, is subject to be towed, moved, or locked until a pass is presented.

Section 4 – Code of Ethics (Conformation & Structure)

1. To maintain a high degree of confidence in the Livestock Show, the State Fair of Louisiana reserves the

right to disqualify any animal(s) that have been fitted in an unethical manner. Unethical fitting means any

attempt to alter the natural appearance, conformation, musculature or weight of an animal by any unnatural

means, as well as changing the normal conformation of any part of the animal’s body or using drugs,

medications, chemicals, or other substances (including over the counter and extra label substances and

uses), or mechanical devices to alter the physical makeup or performance of animal. Unethical fitting shall

include by not limited to the following:

a. Insertion of foreign material under the skin such as gas, solids or liquid to alter normal

conformation

b. Surgery or other practices performed to change the natural contour or appearance of the animal’s

body, hide, or hair, or feet (this is to include any materials added to the feet of an animal) except

the removal of warts or horns and the permitted clipping and dressing of hair and trimming of

hooves

c. Attempts to disrupt or change normal dental development as well as the dyeing of animals which

alters their natural coloration

d. Artificially filling animals by stomach pumping, air injections, and bruising.

2. Animal showing, in the opinion of the judge, signs of having been operated upon or tampered with

for the purpose of concealing faults in conformation or with intent to deceive related to the animals’

soundness and conformation will be disqualified. Every exhibitor, in consideration of his entry being

accepted by the State Fair of Louisiana, agrees to submit any animal so entered by him to inspection by a

veterinarian appointed by the management and agrees to have such animal submitted to any tests as may be

designated and requested by the veterinarian and agrees that the conclusions reached by the veterinarian as

to whether such animal is unethically fitted or over-age, shall be final, without recourse against State Fair

of Louisiana or any of its officers. In case any premium shall have been awarded to animals shown in

violation of this rule, the exhibitor will refund all premiums, monies, cups, trophies and ribbons awarded

such animals.

Section 5 – Claims for Injury

1. No claim for injury to any person or property shall ever be asserted nor suit instituted or maintained against

the State Fair of Louisiana, its officers or its agents, by or on behalf of any person, firm or corporation or

their agents, representatives, servants or employees having license or privilege to exhibit on the Fair

Grounds or occupy any space thereon.

2. If any damage, loss or injury to person or property shall be caused by reason of any neglect or willful act of

any person, firm or corporation, or their agents, representatives, servants or employees having license or

privilege to exhibit or occupy space on Fair Grounds, the State Fair of Louisiana shall in no manner be

responsible. In case it is subjected to any expense or liability, all persons liable shall indemnify the State

Fair of Louisiana.

3. The State Fair of Louisiana will not be in any way liable for any injury to any attendant to any exhibit in all

departments while enroute to or from the fair.

Section 6 – Removal of Objectionable Exhibits & Displays

1. The management reserves the right to remove from the grounds any exhibit, animal, concession, or show

that may be falsely entered and may be deemed objectionable, or to remove any sign, banner or advertising

matter of any kind which may be deemed objectionable by it, without assigning a reason, and if necessary,

to return any money already paid for space or stalls, which shall exonerate the State Fair of Louisiana from

any claim whatsoever on the part of the exhibitor or the purchaser.

Section 7 – Exhibitors’ Duties & Privileges

1. If it be ascertained that any exhibitor or his employee has in an ungentlemanly and public manner taken

exception to the judgement of a ruling of an awarding committee, judge, superintendent or other official of

the State Fair of Louisiana, the Board of Directors can expel the offending exhibitor or employee from

competing for a premium or exhibiting until he shall have made proper apology and been reinstated by a

vote of the majority of the Board of Directors.

2. If it be ascertained that any exhibitor had made or caused to be made any false statements in regard to any

animal or article, or if any exhibitor shall attempt to interfere with the judges in the performance of their

duties, he shall be excluded from competition or exhibition.

3. Judging will not be delayed for animals entering the arena late. The superintendent shall exclude livestock

from competition should there be any unnecessary or embarrassing delay on the part of the exhibitors in

bringing the animals into the show ring. In addition, the superintendent or judge may exclude any unruly

animal from competition at his discretion.

4. Exhibitors shall show their animals at such time, and places as may be directed and shall furnish such

information concerning their stock as may be required by the superintendent. Refusal to obey this rule will

result in the forfeiture of any and all premiums and the barring of the exhibitor from showing.

5. Exhibitors of livestock will be required to give complete information on all animals on the official entry

forms when making entries. Exhibitors of livestock must be prepared to show certificates of registry in

standard registry associations and identification of animals with such certificates when required by the

superintendent in charge.

6. Special care will be taken that no animal having disease of any character will be admitted into the grounds

at any time during the Fair, and the management is instructed and authorized to refuse unloading privileges

to any stock having disease.

7. Policemen are instructed to restrain any person from attempting to remove from the grounds any stock or

other exhibits before they are officially released without a written order from the management.

8. All attendants or persons leading or driving an animal into the judging area, shall be neatly attired or in

uniform, and must be kept neat in clean throughout the show.

9. Animals must be tied in areas designated by show management. Violation of this rule may result in

forfeiture of any premium monies awarded.

10. Exhibitors when called are expected to produce their stock promptly. Stock must be in the ring within ten

minutes after the class is called. Any exhibitor failing to comply with the orders or instructions of show

management will thereby annul and cancel all entries and forfeit such prizes award him as the show

management may see fit to withhold, and exhibitor may be barred from further showing during the State

Fair.

11. Exhibitors are required to keep their tack area, stalls, aisles and exhibits in a neat clean condition at all

times.

12. Nurse cows for beef cattle, both breeding and steers in the open and junior shows may not be on the State

Fair of Louisiana Grounds, in accordance to rules of the International Association of Fairs and Expositions

and the American Breed Associations.

Section 8 – Judges & Awards

1. Judging in all departments will begin at the time specified in the schedule of events.

2. No one will be allowed to act as a judge in the class or ring in which he exhibits.

3. All awards under the rules and regulations of this award list will be paid according to the rules.

4. Judges will make awards only on articles regularly mentioned in the schedule of classes. Awards will be

made by the single judge system. The decision of a judge shall be final and no appeal will be considered

except in case of a written protest.

5. UNWORTHY EXHIBITS: It is the intent of the management that no award or distinction of any kind be

given any animal or article that is not deserving. In cases where only one animal or article is being

exhibited in a class, the judge shall make his award in accordance with the merits of animal or article being

exhibited which may be either first, second, third, etc. The judge must not award a placing to an unworthy

animal or article. Only first prize-winning animals and articles are eligible for championship honors.

6. No awards will be made when the article is unworthy though there be no competition. No award will be

paid in any department except as definitely stated in this list.

7. The following colors will be used in designating awards and issued by the superintendent of each

department or his assistant.

• Champion – Royal Purple

• Reserve – Lavender

• First Premium – Blue

• Second Premium – Red

• Third Premium – White

• Fourth Premium – Pink

• Fifth Premium – Yellow

• Sixth Premium – Dark Green

8. In paying premiums no evidence of award will be recognized except the Judge’s Books signed by the

Judge, and not from ribbons awarded.

9. The State Fair of Louisiana is not responsible for awards offered other than those premiums listed in the

catalog. Special awards are the responsibility of the donor identified with those awards.

10. Monetary awards may be adjusted dependent on the availability of the sponsorship funding.

11. No premiums will be paid on any animal for which proper entry has not been made before closing of

entries. No substitution of any animal will be allowed after the entries are officially closed, except as

specified.

12. Premium monies will be distributed by the State Fair of Louisiana. Premium checks for the Junior and

Open shows will be made out to the exhibitor and mailed to the exhibitor address shown on the entry form.

If premium checks are reissued for ANY reason a $35.00 fee per check will be subtracted from the

premium total.

13. Premium checks have a 60-day expiration period. Expired premium checks WILL NOT be reissued,

regardless of reasons.

Section 9 – Protest & Appeals

1. All protests must be made in writing and accompanied by a deposit of $100.00, which deposit will be

forfeited if protest is not sustained by management. Protest must state plainly the cause of complaint or

appeal, and must be filed with the Livestock Manager Immediately after the occasion that prompted the

protest. Protest will be accepted prior to, during and within 5 hours immediately following conclusion of

judging.

2. Judging procedures will not be interrupted for protest investigation. Depending on the basis of the protest, a

decision may be withheld until a complete investigation has been conducted.

3. No complaint or appeal based upon the statement that the judge or judges are incompetent or have

overlooked an animal or article will be considered by the management.

4. The right of an exhibitor to appeal from the decision of a judge to the Livestock Manager will be only when

it’s charged that the awarded has been made in violation of the rules governing the exhibit; or when it’s

charged that the decision of the judge has been influenced or interfered with.

5. Appeals from the decision of a judge must be made in writing to the Livestock Manager within five hours

after the award has been made and must contain at least one specific charge stating at length all facts relied

upon or the rules violated, and naming witnesses and their addresses by whom proof is to be made.

6. All questions of dispute not provided for under these rules shall be referred to the General Manger of the

State Fair of Louisiana, whose decision shall be final

7. In addition to the right of protest guaranteed to exhibitors, the Livestock Committee Board reserves the

right to take cognizance of fraud consummated or attempted in connection with an exhibit and take such

action as may be deemed just and proper and as may be warranted by the premises.

Section 10–Barn & Arena Rules

1. Area traffic & parking signs must be obeyed at all times.

2. Designated fire lanes must be clear. Vehicles parked in unauthorized areas will be towed away subject to

recovery of the towing fee from the owner.

3. Due to fire code regulations, the use of electric, open flame or space heaters in prohibited.

4. Cooking is not allowed in the barn at any time. NO cookers, crock-pots, microwaves, coffee pots, warmers,

or any other cooking utensils are permitted in the barns.

5. Generators are allowed, but must remain outside of the show barns per the State Fire Marshall.

6. All electrical equipment brought onto the Grounds must conform to all applicable safety regulations. All

electrical cords must be underwriters approved. No electrical cords are allowed in aisles or

walkways.

7. Pine Shavings are allowed as stall bedding. No outside shavings are allowed! For the convenience of

Livestock Exhibitor’s, The State Fair of Louisiana will maintain a feed store on the Fairgrounds during the

duration of the fair. Feed, hay and bedding may be purchased at prices comparable to other major fairs and

retailers. Each exhibitor may bring in a supply of feed for their animal.

8. Fans are permitted but must be securely hung above the area. No fans will be permitted in aisles at any

time. No fans will be allowed to operate from the center aisle.

9. Grooming or Trim Chutes will not be allowed in any aisles or walkways.

10. The storage of large quantities of feed and bedding in the barns will not be permitted. Extra feed must be

kept in truck and trailers. Feed, Chairs, equipment boxes, etc. are not permitted in the main alleys or barn

aisles.

11. Refuse matter must be disposed of as follows: Manure and/or bedding into designated dumpsters; trash into

trash barrels.

12. Only police K9’s and those assisting blind or deaf persons, and trained animals in such acts are permitted in

the barn area.

13. Any equipment brought in to be used in assigned stalls or spaces must comply with and be used in

compliance with all federal, state and municipal occupational safety and health regulations.

14. Cars, Trucks, Trailers or Living Trailers are NOT permitted to park in the barn area. See the Livestock

Office for the proper location of these vehicles. All unattended vehicles will be towed at the owner’s

expense.

Louisiana Regulations for 4-H and FFA Shows

Health Certificate

1. Health Certificates are required for entry into all LSU AgCenter 4-H and FFA livestock shows in

Louisiana.

2. Health certificates written for livestock movement to another state (interstate movement) are subject to

federal Animal Disease Traceability law that requires all animals to be individually listed with Official

Identification on an Official Health Certificate. Livestock moving interstate must also meet the entry

requirements of the destination state.

3. Health certificates are required for entry into all LSU AgCenter 4-H and FFA livestock shows in Louisiana.

However, health certificates that are written for livestock movement within the state (intrastate movement)

are subject to state rules so Louisiana has allowed some exemptions for official identification and health

certificates written for LSU AgCenter 4-H and FFA shows only.

4. LDAF/LSU AgCenter guidelines for intrastate movement to Louisiana 4-H and FFA Shows are:

a. Original or copy of an official health certificate is required for each family.

b. In-state health certificates are valid for 60 days and must be written by a Category II accredited

veterinarian.

c. More than one owner will be allowed on the health certificate if the Shipper/Consignor is

identified as the Parish AgCenter (parish of origin, i.e., Acadia Parish AgCenter) with the parish

AgCenter address.

d. More than one destination will be allowed on the health certificate if the Receiver/Consignee is

identified as LA 4-H/FFA Show Circuit.

e. More than one species will be allowed on each health certificate. Animals must be individually

identified and listed on the health certificate or on an attached spreadsheet.

f. Livestock identification that may be used by the accredited veterinarian to write a health certificate

to 4-H and FFA Shows are:

• USDA Metal “Brite Tags” or calfhood vaccination tags

• 840 RFID tags

• Microchips

• Scrapie Tags

• Leg bands

• Breed registry tattoos, breed registry brands, or breed registry ear notches IF breed

registry documents accompany the animal shipment

• LA Show Tags issued by the LSU AgCenter for commercial and market animals for

intrastate exhibitors only

5. *Note to Accredited Veterinarians:

a. If an animal is presented for a health certificate before the LA Show Tag has been issued, then an

official ID tag must be applied to the animal to write the certificate or you must wait until the

show tag has been issued. Ear notching is NOT acceptable identification for swine unless it is a

breed registered ear notch and breed registry papers must accompany the health certificate.

b. If an animal is presented for a health certificate by a single family, then the standard one family,

one destination health certificate should be written. It is valid for 60 days if it is written for an

LSU AgCenter show. The parish-wide certificate is a convenience for the Parish County Agent

and attending veterinarian to coordinate multiple families and multiple species with a group

veterinary visit.

c. The veterinarian must make a visual inspection of all animals listed on the health certificate.

6. Health certificates may be checked by LDAF personnel at district and state shows.

7. Regulatory personnel may be walking through barns and checking animals and papers at shows.

State of Louisiana Health Regulations – Species Requirements

Cattle

1. Cattle entering Louisiana shows or fairs must have the following: valid health certificate with the animal

identification clearly written on the health certificate.

2. Health Certificate

• Must be signed by Category II accredited veterinarian.

• Animal identification (not just the registration number) of each animal should be clearly stated on

the health certificate.

• Official animal identification accepted for cattle in Louisiana includes: USDA metal ID tags

(silver Brite tags or orange OCV tags), 840 RFID tags, official breed registry tattoos, and official

breed registry brands if breed registries accompany the health certificate.

• LA Show Tags issued by the LSU AgCenter will be accepted as official identification at LSU

shows only.

• Multiple cattle may be listed on one health certificate.

• This health certificate is valid for 60 days from the date of issue to cover the period of the show

season for Louisiana 4H and FFA animals.

Poultry

1. Poultry entering Louisiana shows or fairs must have the following: valid health certificate with the animal

identification clearly written on the health certificate and a negative test for Salmonella pullorum and

Salmonella gallinarum (pullorum/typhoid) or originate from a NPIP certified flock.

2. *NOTE: Broilers only need a health certificate because they originate from NPIP certified flocks.



• Animal identification of each bird should be clearly stated on the health certificate.

• Official animal identification accepted for poultry in Louisiana includes: leg bands or Group

Identification Number (GIN). *NOTE: GIN is a unique number used to identify a “unit of

animals” managed together; call LDAF for more information.

• Multiple birds may be listed on one health certificate.



4. Salmonella Test (individual bird or flock)

• Each bird must have a negative test for Salmonella pullorum and Salmonella gallinarum

(pullorum/typhoid) dated within 60 days prior to the show, or

• The flock of origin must be certified Salmonella pullorum and Salmonella gallinarum

(pullorum/typhoid) free under the National Poultry Improvement Plan (NPIP) within the past year.

• Test results or flock NPIP certification status may be written on the health certificate by the

veterinarian or the official Form VS 9-2 should accompany the bird.

• Identification of each bird is recommended by leg band with the identification listed on the VS 9-2

form.

Swine

1. Swine entering Louisiana shows or fairs must have the following: valid health certificate with the animal

identification clearly written on the health certificate.



• Animal identification of each pig should be clearly stated on the health certificate.

• Official animal identification accepted for swine in Louisiana includes: official USDA metal ear

tag, 840 RFID ear tags, purebred registry ear notches, and registered tattoos if breed registry

papers accompany shipment (*NOTE: farm management ear notching is not acceptable ID for

health certificates).

• LA Show Tags issued by the LSU AgCenter will be accepted as official identification for LSU

shows only.

• Multiple pigs may be listed on one health certificate.



Sheep & Goats

1. Sheep and goats entering Louisiana shows or fairs must have the following: valid health certificate with the

animal identification clearly written on the health certificate. 2. Health Certificate


• Animal identification of each sheep or goat should be clearly stated on the health certificate.

• Official animal identification accepted for sheep and goats in Louisiana includes: official USDA

Scrapie ear tags, breed registry tattoos, and electronic implants (microchips). *NOTE: microchips

may only be used if sheep or goats originate from a flock participating in the Scrapie Flock

Certification Program (SFCP). These animals must be accompanied by the SFCP certificate and

their own microchip reader. Certain breeds with tiny ears like Lamancha or Pygmy goats may use

microchips for ID if they are associated with an official USDA Scrapie ear tag on the health

certificate and that Scrapie ear tag must accompany the animal.

• Multiple sheep and goats may be listed on one health certificate.



Heightened biosecurity should always be practiced at livestock shows. Hands should be washed frequently with

soap and water or with an alcohol-based hand cleaner after sneezing or contact with animals. Clean manure off of

footwear or equipment to minimize the spread of infectious diseases. Always notify your veterinarian or show

personnel if your animal becomes ill or if you notice sick animals at the show.

*Final Note: it is a violation of federal law to remove official ear tags from livestock. If a veterinarian has applied

the ID tag, it cannot be removed without permission from the State Veterinarian’s Office. Call (225) 925-3980 if

Chapter 5 Junior Rules

Junior Livestock Show

Junior Show Rules Junior Entry Deadline: September 30, 2021

1. Eligibility: The Junior Show is limited to entries from within the state of Louisiana, unless otherwise

stated. The term exhibitor shall mean the bona fide owner of the project. Junior show exhibitors are subject

to the General & Junior Rules as well as any Special Rules. Exhibitors must be bona fide members of the 4-

H or FFA club in Louisiana, unless otherwise stated. Exhibitors are also eligible to participate through the

calendar year that they graduate from high school. After this, he/she is no longer eligible to participate in

the Junior Division of the State Fair of Louisiana.

2. All exhibitors must be enrolled in the project in which they are exhibiting. 4-H and FFA exhibits can

exhibit only the animals which are part of their project. Feeding practices and keeping records of this work

must be done under the supervision of County Extension Agents and Vo-Ag Instructors.

3. Animals shown in the Junior Show may also be shown in the Open Show if classes are available. Open

Show fees will be applied. Junior Exhibitors must comply with all rules and regulations as applies to open

classes. Failure to comply will bar the exhibitor from participating for premiums, which may be awarded

by the judge in and department of the fair.

4. Junior exhibitors may show no more than two entries per class in any Division of the Junior Breeding

Shows.

5. Exhibitors must have animals in their possession and under their personal care (and must not be in

possession of a custom fitter) after possession dates. The possession requirement covers the period from the

date of possession (listed below) to the completion of the State Fair of Louisiana. If an exhibitor does not

have animals(s) in his/her possession during the entire possession period, the exhibitor must turn in a

project/hardship form before possession dates. Any exhibitor housing his/her animal on any property other

than where they reside must acquire and have approved a project/hardship form prior to purchase of animal.

7. Validations/Nominations: All market steers, market lambs, market swine, market goats, commercial

heifers, commercial does, commercials ewes, and commercial gilts are required to be ear tagged with an

official State Fair of Louisiana tag. There is no limit to the number of animals an exhibitor may tag

however, an exhibitor will only be allowed to exhibit a maximum number as specified in the individual

rules for that division. Validation forms should be completed using the online submission form. The cost of

validation is $7 per validation kit. Validation kits must be paid in full before kits will be mailed. Please do

not over order. The State Fair of Louisiana will not issue a refund for any unused DNA kits.

8. If a family of more than one sibling is showing more than one animal of the same species, they can validate

in a family name but must declare who is showing which animal to the livestock office no later than

October 19, 2021.

9. Showmanship: All contestants are to use their own animal in showmanship classes.

10. Each exhibitor must show his own animal. If the exhibitor is unable to show his own animal by reason of

sickness, temporary physical handicap, or by reason of exhibiting more than one animal, then he must have

a bona fide 4-H or FFA Club member to show in his place. The owner must show his own animal in all of

the championship classes in which he is eligible to show unless he is unable to show due to sickness,

temporary physical handicap, or having more than one animal in a championship class. In this event, the

person showing in the preliminaries must show in championship classes. You must notify State Fair show

management in writing prior to show date.

11. If livestock owned by a Louisiana 4-H or FFA member is shown in an out of state open show, the animal

must be exhibited in the open show by the exhibitor or member of the immediate family (parents, legal

guardians, siblings, and grandparents). Exhibition of animals by anyone else will result in the animal being

ineligible for competition at the State Fair of Louisiana.

12. The State Fair of Louisiana does NOT provide security or guard service and is not responsible for acts of

third party. Exhibitors and exhibitor’s parents/guardians agree that the State Fair of Louisiana shall be

entitled to disqualify any exhibitor whose animal test positive for any drug even if the exhibitor and

exhibitors’ parents/guardians are innocent of any wrongdoing and had no role in the administration of the

drug show by drug test. Even if the source of drug is unknown. The State Fair shall be entitled to disqualify

the exhibitor. Disqualification results in forfeiture of all prize monies, auction proceeds, and forfeit all

rights and privileges to exhibit livestock in the future at the State Fair of Louisiana.

13. All animals entered in the junior division will be subject to testing for unauthorized use of medications or

drugs. Any exhibitor refusing to comply with this rule will be eliminated from competition and the animal

will be disqualified from the show.

14. Observe Drug Withdrawal Requirements: The Federal Food and Drug Administration and the U.S.

Department of Agriculture, Meat Inspection Division, require that the use of certain drugs, antibiotics,

hormones and insecticides be discontinued in or on food producing animals for specific minimum periods

of time prior to the sale of the animals for slaughter. Failure to observe these withdrawal periods, which are

3. Commercial Dairy Cows must have freshened at least once to qualify for the commercial cow class. There

will only be one class regardless of breed type or number of lactations or weight.

4. Commercial Dairy must be validated with an official State Fair of Louisiana ear tag in order to compete.

DNA validation kits may be requested from: The State Fair of Louisiana 3701 Hudson Ave. Shreveport,

LA 71109. It is the responsibility of the exhibitor to tag their animal and pull a DNA hair sample. It will

also be the responsibility of the exhibitor to mail the sample and information card back to the State Fair

with any and all validation fees no later than the posted deadline.

5. Validation should not be confused as registration. An entry form will need to be submitted with any and all

fees in order to be “entered” for competition.

6. All heifers entered and shown must be polled or dehorned. No more than ½ inch scars or re-growth

allowed.

7. Exhibitors are allowed to enter and exhibit a maximum of three (3) commercial dairy.

8. Heifers will show by weight. They will be weighed only once on the official scales provided by The State

Fair of Louisiana. There will be no reweighs.

this range will be disqualified.

Drug Testing:

1. All Champion Market Steers will be drug tested by Show Management. All other Market Steers are subject

to random drug screens upon the request from Show Management.

1. Unethical Fitting: To maintain a high degree of confidence in the Livestock Show, the State Fair of

Louisiana reserves the right to disqualify any animal(s) that have been fitted in an unethical manner.

Unethical fitting means any attempt to alter the natural appearance, conformation, musculature or weight of

an animal by any unnatural means, as well as changing the normal conformation of any part of the animal’s

body or using drugs, medications, chemicals, or other substances (including over the counter and extra

label substances and uses), or mechanical devices to alter the physical makeup or performance of animal.

Unethical fitting shall include by not limited to the following:

a. Insertion of foreign material under the skin such as gas, solids or liquid to alter normal

conformation

b. Surgery or other practices performed to change the natural contour or appearance of the animal’s

body, hide, or hair, or feet (this is to include any materials added to the feet of an animal) except

the removal of warts or horns and the permitted clipping and dressing of hair and trimming of

hooves

c. Dyeing of animals which alters their natural coloration

d. Artificially filling animals by stomach pumping, air injections, and bruising

2. Any animal showing signs of illness or being under the influence of drugs will be subject to testing for the

presence of such medication. Failure to submit the animal for testing will result in immediate

disqualification.

Attention:

• The use by non-veterinarians of animal drugs or other substances in any manner other than in accord with

the labeling approved by the FDA is a violation of federal law.

• Abuse of the extra label privilege by veterinarians is unethical and is subject to serious consequences such

as license revocation.

• Any food animal must not exceed FDA/EPA/USDA-established tolerances for any foreign substance

(identified or unidentified) including drugs, pesticides, feed additives, or other chemicals.

• Positive test results of residue testing are subject to investigation by USDA and FDA prosecution.

• Any misrepresentation of a food animal that can potentially affect the acceptability of the carcass will be

considered fraud.

Showmanship: The State Fair of Louisiana will sponsor showmanship for this division. The State Fair of Louisiana will provide the

arena, microphone and designated time as in Schedule of events. Ribbons and awards will be provided by the State

Fair of Louisiana. Chico Farms will sponsor a belt buckle to the overall showman.

1. Showmanship is open Louisiana 4H & FFA Members only.

2. All contestants will use their own animal.

3. Winners will be selected on the exhibitor’s showmanship plus fitting and grooming on the animal.

4. In all classes the age of the contestant is the age the day of the show.

5. All contestants must be pre-entered. Contestants will be allowed to sign up at weigh in.

Louisiana Bred Steer Awards/Sponsor:

Louisiana Bred Steer Program

Purpose:

• To improve Louisiana cattle.

• To promote the Louisiana cattle industry while allowing 4H and FFA members to improve their knowledge

of management practices involved in selecting, feeding, and fitting cattle.

Judging

• All animals entered in the Louisiana Bred Steer Show will be judged within the class during the regular class

judging. Show class will be followed as per State Fair Classes.

• The first and second place Louisiana Bred steer in each class will return for the selection of Champion and

Reserve Champion.

Entry Requirements:

*Louisiana Bred – Animals must have been conceived, born, and raised the Louisiana.

1. The steer and dam DNA must match as a genetic pair.

2. Steer must be nominated for Louisiana Bred by the breeder.

3. The dam and steer must be a DNA match

4. The steer must have a Louisiana Bred Steer Ear tag.

5. Breeder must have full possession of the steers mother (dam) for as long as the steer is in the Louisiana Bred

Steer Program.

6. If the dam dies before the steer is out of the program, the breeder must notify the Louisiana Bred Steer

Committee withing 24 hours.

7. The Louisiana Bred Steer Committee reserves the right to inspect cattle premises at any time and conduct

random testing on cattle that are part of the Louisan Bred Steer Program.

8. Each steer nominated for the show must be certified as Louisiana Bred.

9. All certification cards must be revived by The State Fair of Louisiana Office no later than ten (10) days

following the possession date. SFL will acknowledge receipt of the cards immediately and will notify the

breeder and/or exhibitor of any problems.

Penalties:

1. Any breeder found guilty of willfully attempting to certify an ineligible steer, the steer will be disqualified

from the Louisiana Bred Program. The exhibitor will have forfeited all Louisiana Bred Awards.

2. The breeder will be permanently suspended from the Louisiana Bred Program.

3. The program reserves the right to investigate any possible wrong doing and the decision of program

management is final.

Bill Dobson was a former Louisiana Brand Commissioner and had a desire for the establishment of a

commercial heifer show at the State Fair of Louisiana in Shreveport. After Bill passed away in 1997, Dave

Foster, State Marketing Director for the Livestock Industry, established the Bill Dobson memorial. Buckles

will be presented by Bill’s wife, Sharon Dobson, and son, Bart Dobson of Elm Grove, LA.

Special Rules:

1. No grooming products such as paint, dyes, show sheens, oils, glues, or adhesives may be used.

Animals entering the make-up area with evidence of such products will be disqualified.

2. The commercial heifer show will be a “blow and show” type show. Exhibitors will be allowed to groom the

hair, brush the hair forward, up, or down, and clip the body hair. Blowing the hair or brushing the hair

forward will be permitted. Water only may be used to groom the heifer on show day.



4. Any crossbred/grade heifer is eligible to enter the Commercial Heifer Division.

5. Registered/Recorded heifers are not eligible for the commercial show.

6. Heifers must be polled or dehorned.

7. All heifers will be shown by weight with no minimum or maximum weight and still have their baby teeth.

No broken mouth will be allowed. Broken mouth means loss of baby teeth or evidence of permanent teeth.

Heifers with broken mouth will be classified as yearling, they will be allowed to show, but cannot show for

champion honors.

8. Commercial Heifers will be split between Brahman Influence and Non-Brahman Influence.

9. All heifers will be mouthed by a veterinarian selected by the State Fair of Louisiana. The decision of the

Veterinarian is final.

10. Commercial Heifers must be validated with an official State Fair of Louisiana ear tag in order to compete.

Louisiana Bred Swine Shows. Each breeder is responsible for ordering his/her tags. All tags must be

2. A Louisiana Bred hog must be conceived, farrowed and raised in Louisiana in order to be nominated.

3. All Louisiana Bred market hogs and breeding swine must be ear tagged with an official LPPA tag in the ear

before leaving the farm or at a recognized sale and no later than the deadline date. Louisiana Bred tags

cannot be used for any other purpose other than to identify LPPA. Recognized Louisiana Bred dates for the

state shows entered are:

4. The cost to Nominate Louisiana bred is $8.00. All request must be no later than two weeks before

possession date.

5. Each breeder must fill out a nomination form and return it to the Executive Secretary no later than five days

after possession date. If this is not done in the time specified those pigs will not be recognized as Louisiana

Bred (and will not be eligible to compete for Louisiana Bred) premiums. Failure to properly nominate pigs

sold as Louisiana Bred or the misuse of Louisiana Bred tags will subject the breeder to penalties set forth

by the LPPA.

Penalty – Any breeder judged to have misuses the Louisiana Bred Swine Program by illegally nominating

and/or tagging show pigs as Louisiana Bred and/or using unauthorized practices to misrepresent Louisiana

Bred show pigs shall by subjected to a 1-year suspension from participating in Louisiana Bred Swine Show

programs for the first offense and a 3-year suspension for a second offense as ruled by the Louisiana Bred

Swine Show Committee under authorization by the LPPA Executive Committee.

6. In the event of a Louisiana Bred swine producer fails to nominate Louisiana Bred pigs and these pigs place

at a LPPA sanctioned livestock show, the producer will be assessed a $50.00 fine for each pig not

nominated. In the event the breeder refuses to pay the fine, he/she will not be allowed to purchase tags or

nominate pigs in the future until such fine is paid.

General Rules:

1. Louisiana Bred is a registered trademark of the Louisiana Pork Producers Association (LPPA) and cannot

be used without written permission by the LPPA.

2. The rules and regulations governing the state show as published in the show catalog for each show will

apply.

3. The LPPA and Louisiana Bred Swine Show Committee reserves the right to interpret, amend and carry out

the rules and regulations governing the Louisiana Bred Swine Shows sponsored by the LPPA.

4. The Louisiana Bred Swine Show Committee will serve as the LPPA Livestock Show Protest Committee to

handle any protest that is formally filed with the livestock show manager at any state livestock district

show. If there is a problem or protest, it must be presented to the LPPA Louisiana Bred representative

assigned to check Louisiana Bred entries at the district show. A protest fee of $50.00 will be charged.

5. The LPPA follows the same guidelines/rules as the three sanctioned shows (State Fair of Louisiana, LSU

Livestock Show, and Louisiana Breeders Futurities) on animal welfare which includes drug testing and

fitting animals.

4. Animals must be registered with the American Angus Association.

5. Only one person at a time shall lead animals into the show arena.


7. Any product administered internally or used externally to alter the conformation and/or appearance of an

animal for exhibitor is prohibited. This includes the covering of white skin, false tail heads (or use of any

false hair), use of graphite, powders, hemp or other similar substances externally and steroids, growth

stimulants or artificial filling internally. Any animal found to be in violation will be barred from showing.

The exhibition of cattle displaying false hair will not be allowed.

8. Any animal, upon check-in, which does not have a legible tattoo corresponding to its registration

certificate, is ineligible to show. Once disqualified due to an incorrect or illegible tattoo, animals cannot be

retattooed and rechecked at the show.

9. If a recorded parent is excluded (as a parent) as a result of blood type, the owner may request, at this own

3. All bulls 12 months and older exhibited in this division must be shown with a nose lead.


5. Animals must be registered with the Beefmasters Breeders United.

6. All heifers shall be inspected to ensure that all identification numbers and holding brands branded or

tattooed on the animal and the description match identically with the registration certificate of breeding.

7. Any uncontrolled animal will be dismissed from the ring at the discretion of the judge.

8. There is no limit to the number of heifers an exhibitor may enter.

9. All animal tattoos may be checked for legibility and must match the registration papers for that animal.

Animals with illegible tattoos or incorrect papers will not be allowed to show.

10. Heifers exhibited at 24 months of age or older must be accompanied by a certificate of pregnancy.

11. Animals entered in group classes, must have been show in in an individual class.

12. All animals must be shown with their coats lying flat against their entire body. Hair trimming is

permissible. Those few areas such as legs, tail head and portions of the top line of the animal which may

not naturally lay flat against the body must be trimmed to be flush with adjacent portions of the hair coat.

Hair may not be trained or pulled upwards or forwards. No animals may have any foreign object(s)

attached to it in any manner or have its natural color altered in a manner so as change the conformation or

appearance. An exhibitor who fails to abide by this rule will be dismissed from the arena and/or forfeit

premiums, awards and points from the show.

13. Each animal must be presented in the show ring in its natural conformation and structure without alteration

or modification. Alteration or modification shall be defined to include any surgical, chemical, electrical, or

other appearance change for cosmetic purposes (such as silicone injections or other injections for cosmetic

purposes), save only branding, tattooing, foot rimming or dehorning.

14. All bulls 20 months of age or older that are exhibited must have passed a fertility examination given by a

licensed veterinarian to be eligible to show.

15. Any and all protest must be written and be filed with the BPG officer or Director no later than 1 hour after

the conclusion of the show, accompanied by a $150.00 nonrefundable protest fee.

4. Animals must be registered by the United Braford Breeders to compete in this association-sponsored show.

Owners must be members of United Braford Breeders in good standing. Cattle must be classified as 3/8

Brahman 5/8 Hereford Braford to be eligible to show in the Braford Show. All other registered Braford

cattle (any combination of Brahman/Hereford genetics other than 3/8 Brahman 5/8 Hereford) are eligible

for the Braford Base Show.

5. The registration number and animal identification number (brand or tattoo) of each animal entered in an

individual class, and the sire of each entry must be listed on the entry card.

6. Animals eligible to be shown in group classes must be entered and shown in individual classes.

7. This is one of five (5) UBB sanctioned Open Braford Point Shows that constitute the Braford Show

Animals of the Year recognition program.

8. Animals found to have evidence of incisions, surgical or otherwise, in the following areas: testicles, sheath,

navel or dewlap will be disqualified from showing.

9. No animal may be shown that has had any foreign objects glued to or otherwise attached in a manner so as

to alter its conformation or change its appearance. Tail ties and hair nets used on the tail will be the only

exception.

10. Entries that have not complied with all the above rules will not be eligible to show or to receive premium

monies.

11. All members of the UBB (regular or junior) will abide by the show rules as adopted. In addition, any show,

fair, event or display in which Braford Cattle participate should comply with these rules as adopted by the

UBB.

12. All Braford entries are subject to the provision of a rule of the United Braford Breeders entitled “Inspection

of Exhibits.”

Inspection of Exhibits:

1. The association and its representatives have the authority to require such tests as they deem necessary to

verify the accuracy of the classification and pedigree of exhibited animals. “Said authority shall extend to

and cover the enforcement of all show rules as adopted by the UBB.”

2. Each exhibitor shall submit his registered Braford cattle to such tests and examinations as requested and/or

required by the Association, its authorized representatives, or the authorized representatives of the relevant

show.

3. For and in consideration of the opportunity to participate in any Braford function each exhibitor herby

releases the Association, its officers, directors and representatives from negligence, any and all claims, suits

and judgements, past present or future, arising from or connected with the administration or use of such test

or examination and the resulting divisions there from.

4. Dental inspection: All entries may be classified for judging on an age basis and should be entered in class

according to age. Teeth may be inspected by a veterinarian designated by the UBB in order to determine

whether dental development is within allowable limits for the class so entered. If the veterinarian

determines that in his opinion dental development exceeds maximum allowable limits, the animal shall be

moved to an older class as determined by the veterinarian and shall remain in that class until determined

otherwise by subsequent mouthing or favorable appeal to the Executive Committee. If it is not possible to

move an animal, the animal may not be exhibited in such show.

5. Any Exhibitor desiring to dispute or challenge the results of any such test, exam, or show rule enforcement,

as applied to his animal, shall do so in accordance with procedures established by the Rules of the

Association.

6. Appeal: an appeal from the decision of the veterinarian or designated association representatives designated

by the UBB under sections 1 and 4 of the Inspection of Exhibits may be made to the Executive Committee

of the UBB if the following requirements are satisfied: (1) the appeal is in writing and is signed by the

appealing party and (2) the appealing party files the written appeal with the UBB Executive Committee as

soon as possible after the veterinarian's or designated association representative's decision was made. If an

appeal satisfying the foregoing requirements is filed with the UBB Executive Committee, the Committee

shall hold a hearing at which the appealing party and the veterinarian or designated association

representatives whose decision is being appealed shall present statements and other evidence that are

relevant to the matter, following which the Executive Committee shall render a decision which shall be

final and conclusive.

2. The ABBA requires that everyone who exhibits cattle in an ABBA Show must be a member in good standing

as either a Junior, Active or Show Member. Please review the ABBA Constitution and Rules to familiarize

yourself with the membership levels along with their requirements.

3. Animals must be registered in the American Brahman Breeders Association to be eligible to compete in

association sponsored shows. The registration certificate for each entry must be available for presentation to

the superintendent or manager of the show at the time entries are verified prior to judging

4. The registration number and animal identification number (number branded on animal) of (1) each animal

must be entered in an individual class, (2) the sire of each get-of-sire entry and (3) the dam of each produce-

of-dam entry must be listed on the entry card of each animal entered.

5. Entries that have not complied with rules one (1) and two (2) will not be eligible to show, receive premium

monies or earn points in the association's Register of Renown.

6. Animals to be eligible to be shown in group classes must be entered and shown in individual classes.

7. Entries will be listed numerically according to age (oldest first) in catalogs and judging schedules. Include

animal identification number (number brand) as a part of identification. When entering the arena for judging,

the handlers will line cattle up numerically in the same order.

8. Judges will be allowed to comment on placings in selected classes when conditions permit.

9. Each animal will be presented in the showring in its natural conformation and structure without alteration or

modification. Alteration or modification shall be defined to include any surgical or circulatory constriction

including banding or other appearance change, save only branding, tattooing, foot trimming, or dehorning.

Injections of foreign substances internally for cosmetic purposes, steroids, growth hormones or stimulants;

then the said animal shall be ruled ineligible to compete until such time the show committee and

owner/owners have reviewed the case. Any violators, both owner & fitter will be in-eligible to exhibit cattle

at ABBA Approved shows for 5 years.

10. If any exhibitor/owner/showman interferes in any way with the judge or shows disrespect to him, or to the

show in the ring, the exhibitor/owner/showman may be dismissed by the judge or show management from

the ring. The management may withhold from each exhibitor/owner/showman and premium monies that may

have been awarded or take other steps deemed desirable.

11. For female being shown in the four oldest classes September 1, 2018 – August 31, 2018, exhibitor must have

a certificate of pregnancy no older than 30 days issued by a licensed veterinarian or certified technician to be

presented to show officials at time of check-in or registration paper check. The show reserves the right to

perform pregnancy determination by palpation for females in the above classes at any given ABBA approved

show if an official protest has been filed. Females exhibited in the last class MUST have her nursing natural

calf at side. The only exemption from this rule will be cows that have already weaned a calf and a registration

certificate of the calf MUST be presented to the judge. The pregnancy certificate will be checked at the

ABBA National, International & any other participating show

12. *All bulls will be shown with a nose ring or nose restraint with lead attached. * For bulls being shown

in the oldest class, the exhibitor must have a seasonal fertility certificate issued by a licensed veterinarian or

certified technician stating the bull can settle cows. The certificate must be available for inspection by the

judge on request. The seasonal fertility certificate will be checked at the ABBA National, International &

any other participating show.

13. This deals with the produce of dam classes and the get-of-sire class. All group classes must be held by a

handler in the show arena to be placed. At the International, National and any other participating show, the

Original Registration Certificate or Original Copy (Blue with COPY across it) of each animal entering the

ring for the group classes must be presented to the Show Official for parent verification. In an attempt to

accommodate the exhibitors, the registration certificates of animals being exhibited in the group classes will

be checked in advance at a specified time. Two animals for Natural Produce, four head for Embryo Produce

and six head for the Get of Sire classes can be checked allowing the exhibitor to make the final selections

prior to the show. If an exhibitor does not want to check papers early, they would then have to bring papers

on each animal that will enter the ring, at class check-in.

• Embryo Produce of Dam - Two animals from the above classes produced by one dam by embryo

transfer either or both sexes may be represented. No ownership requirement.

• Natural Produce of Dam - Two natural born animals produced by one dam from the above classes,

either or both sexes may be represented. No ownership requirement.

• Get-of-Sire - Four animals from at least two dams by one sire from the above individual classes,

both sexes represented. No ownership requirement.

14. No exhibitor shall be permitted to show more than one produce or embryo-produce of dam per dam.

15. Cows that are exhibited with calves at side must be in a lactating stage. Calves must be the natural calf of

the cow being exhibited and must not exceed 240 days of age on day of judging. The judge will be made

aware by the ring steward for those cows whose calves are ineligible to show by this rule.

16. Cattle will not be allowed to show if their switches have been balled or glitter applied to their skin.

17. Color Classification Rule effective with the 2019 ABBA International Show - Houston

For animals exhibited in ABBA approved shows, the following rules will apply:

• The ABBA Color Chart will serve as the official breed resource for identifying the proper hair

coat of registered Brahman cattle (see attached or charts are available from ABBA)

• In order to show in the Red Show, an animal must have a minimum of 3 Red ancestors in their 3-

generation pedigree. An animal with less than 7 out of 14 Red ancestors in the 3-generation

pedigree may not show until color classified

• Animals will be color classified by the ABBA Color Committee in order to compete at the

International, National, Kick-Off Classic and All-American Shows. The Show Committee also has

the right to color classify at any ABBA Approved Show unannounced.

• The ABBA Color Committee shall consist of 3 primary members and 2 alternates, all with

experience in the beef industry and with at least 2 of the members being ABBA Directors who are

non-showing members. The Color Committee will be appointed by the ABBA President and will

serve for the full show year.

• Animals will be color classified by their predominant hair color based on the ABBA Color Chart.

• Only if an animal is unable to be classified based upon the ABBA Color Chart, the animal’s

pedigree may be used to aid in color classification.

• Once classified, the animal’s paper will be stamped with the color classification and remain in that

classification throughout its show career. Appeals can be sent to the Executive Committee within

30 days

• If any animal is reclassified by the Color Committee, the ABBA must provide corrected papers to

the current owner of that animal within 30 days of the reclassification at the owner’s expense

• Animals shown in group classes must show in the group class of the registered color of their sire

for the Get-of-Sire and the registered color of their dam for the Produce-of-Dam (ET & Natural)

• Both the exhibitor and owner of an animal that is shown in the wrong color division after being

color classified will be ineligible to show any animals for 13 months following the infraction. The

animal in violation will be disqualified for its entire show career and will forfeit all Register of

Renown points

• Any ABBA member or exhibitor has the right to protest the color classification of any animal at

any ABBA Approved Show to the Show Committee in writing within 30 days. Any animals

already stamped with a color classification will not be reclassified.

18. The owner of record of any registered animal entered in an ABBA approved shows and/or his/her agent,

exhibitor, fitter, handler and/or representative releases ABBA and its representatives from any and all liability

that seller/owner might claim as a result of injury of any kind sustained before, during, or after handling cattle

for any ABBA board approved activity.

19. Beginning January 21, 2020 for shows to remain approved point shows by ABBA they must maintain a forty

(40) head average for the previous two (2) years. Shows must also follow the Requirements of ABBA

Approved Shows.

20. ALL Animals MUST have a Birth Weight submitted to be eligible to show in ABBA Approved Shows.

21. The official ABBA rules & procedures governing showing & exhibiting of registered Brahman cattle

supersede any rules printed in any show catalog.

22. In an attempt to ensure that all animals receive an equal evaluation at the National and International Shows,

classes with more than 30 entries may at the discretion of the Show Management and/ or ABBA Officials be

split by age as evenly as possible.

23. Any animal that exceeds the weight & measurement requirements at the International Brahman Show,

National Brahman Show, All American National Junior Show or any other designated show where weights

& measurements are taken will be in-eligible to show at that show and any future ABBA Approved

Shows until the next show that weights & measures are taken when they can requalify. Any animal that

exceeds the parameters and is shown at an ABBA Approved Show before requalifying will be in-eligible to

show their remaining career. Both the exhibitor and owner of the previously disqualified animal that is

shown before requalifying will be in-eligible to show animals forever.

Code of Ethics:

The American Brahman Breeders Association recognizes the importance of the showing and exhibition of American

Brahman cattle and that the competitive evaluation in the show ring is but one method to evaluate animals in our

breed. The competitive show ring includes exhibitors who present animals to be placed and approved ABBA judges.

This ABBA Show Ring Code of Conduct and Ethics seeks to ensure that all participants, exhibitors, and approved

judges act in accordance with these guidelines to help ensure impartiality, honesty, and fairness to all concerned and

in keeping with high standards expected of all ABBA endeavors.

5. Animals must be registered with the International Brangus Breeders Association (IBBA) and in good

standing with the association.

6. All exhibitors in the IBBA National Brangus Show of Merit must wear a collared shirt in the show ring.

7. Animals must be registered Brangus, Red Brangus, UltraBlack, or UltraRed with the International Brangus

Breeders Association (IBBA) to be eligible to compete in an IBBA-sponsored show. The registration

certificate (or photocopy) for each entry must be available for presentation to the Superintendent or show

manager at the time entries are verified prior to judging. UltraBlacks and UltraReds must show separately

from Brangus and Red Brangus.

8. Animals recorded in the IBBA Appendix registry are ineligible to show.

9. The registration number, permanent animal identification number (brand or tattoo), birth date and sire of

each animal entered in an individual class must be listed on the entry form.

10. Any animal recorded in the IBBA registry that has a “Parentage Dispute” listed in its first three generation

pedigree is ineligible for participation in Brangus shows and exhibitions. If the dispute is resolved, the

listing will be removed from the pedigree and show eligibility will be restored.

11. The IBBA, and its representatives, have the authority to require such tests as they deem necessary to verify

the accuracy of the classification and pedigree of exhibited Brangus animals. Said authority shall extend to,

and cover the enforcement of, all show rules as adopted by the IBBA.

12. All animals are required to have completed parent verification on file at IBBA prior to the show check-in.

If an animal does not have DNA parent verification completed at that time, they will be ineligible to show.

IBBA reserves the right to collect DNA samples at any IBBA-sanctioned show. Collection will be

conducted by random draw for retesting of parentage at the association’s expense. At the four national

IBBA-sanctioned shows, three random samples will be collected from Brangus and UltraBlack entries and

three random samples will be collected from Red Brangus and UltraRed entries. If the calf at side is over

60 days of age by the date of show check-in, it must have parent verification completed by show check-in.

If it is under 60 days, parent verification of the calf is not required. Cows in the cow/calf pair classes are

exempt from the parent verification requirement if they are born prior to September 1, 2017.

13. Prior to check-in, heads of breeding animals must be clipped of all hair (including topknots) and be free of

scurs and/or slick spots.

14. Any animal found to have scurs and/or slick spots, or evidence of incisions, surgical or otherwise, in the

following areas: head, testicles, sheath, navel, or dewlap; including scars from caesarean sections, will be

disqualified from showing. Animals with illegal white (white in front of the naval) or any indication of

brindling (a color pattern characterized by red streaks mingled with black), or red animals with any

unacceptable coloring (according to the IBBA Red High Color Scale – available at gobrangus.com – and

including Brown, Grey, Yellow, Light to White, White Legs or Black Muzzle) are ineligible for show. Any

animal upon check in which does not have a legible tattoo or brand corresponding to its registration

certificate is ineligible to show. Once disqualified due to incorrect or illegible tattoo/brand, animals cannot

be re-tattooed and rechecked at show. The brand/tattoo can be corrected and rechecked at the next available

show.

15. In IBBA sanctioned shows, no animal may be shown that has been artificially filled with any amount of

liquid at any time once the animal enters the grounds of a show. The fitter or ranch entity involved with an

animal being artificially filled will be banned from the show ring for one year and the animal will be

disqualified from exhibition at that particular show. The official show veterinarian may administer liquids

orally, if so, needed without disqualifying animal(s) from exhibition.

16. No animal may be shown that has had any foreign objects, glued to or otherwise attached in a manner so as

to alter its conformation or change its appearance. Animals unethically fitted to alter the conformation or

appearance of the animal will be disqualified. Tail ties and hairnets used on the tail and switch are the only

exceptions.

17. Paint or coloring agents of any kind are not to be used on any animal exhibited at IBBA sponsored shows.

The use of aerosol products of any kind will not be permitted in the line-up area for the show. Animals will

be toweled in the line-up area prior to entering the show ring. Animals found in violation of these policies

will be disqualified from showing.

18. All Brangus bulls 18 months of age or older that are exhibited at IBBA sponsored shows must have passed

a fertility examination given by a licensed veterinarian to be eligible to show. The results of the

examination must be available at check-in. Once a bull has a positive examination, retesting is not required.

19. All bulls (shown as an individual entry) must be show with a nose ring or nose restraint with lead attached.

20. Weights and scrotal measurements will be taken at check-in at all four of the IBBA National Shows. Any

bull can be weighed before they enter the show ring and cannot have more than a 7.5% gain. Anyone may

protest a bull’s gain and cause them to be weighed by submitting a written protest to the ethics committee

prior to the start of the bull show.

21. All females 20 months of age or older exhibited at IBBA sanctioned shows, must have available at the time

of check-in, a certificate of pregnancy issued by an accredited non-owner veterinarian, or blood test results

certificate. If the female is open due to being in an embryo transfer program, a

certified copy of the flush record showing viable embryos produced by the said female must be presented at

check-in, by a non-owner embryologist. If verification cannot be produced, the female be allowed to

participate if the exhibitor can produce a qualified veterinarian to examine the female at the show site and

verify pregnancy. Females showing in the Senior Heifer Division of Spring Shows (January 1 through May

31) must adhere to the classifications and have an IBBA registered natural calf, not older than 250 days of

age on show date.

22. All calves exhibited at the side of the female must be registered with the IBBA and meet all rules required

for show eligibility and inspections of exhibits. Brangus and Red Brangus Cows exhibited in the cow/calf

show must have Brangus or Red Brangus at side with R or RR. UltraBlack and UltraRed cows exhibited in

the cow/calf show must have UB, UR, R, or RR calves at side.

23. Animals eligible to be shown in group classes must be entered and shown in respective individual classes.

Cows exhibited in the cow/calf classes are not eligible for the group classes.

24. Entries that have not complied with all of the above rules will not be eligible to show, to receive premium

monies, or earn points in the IBBA’s Show Sire of the Year, Show Dam of the Year, Show Bull of the

Year, Show Heifer of the Year and Show Cow Calf Pair awards.

25. All IBBA and IJBBA member will abide by the show rules as adopted and posted online at gobrangus.com,

regardless of show premium book. In addition, any show, fair, event, or display in which Brangus, Red

Brangus, UltraBlack, or UltraRed cattle participate should follow these rules as adopted by IBBA. All

entries are subject to the provision of a rule established by the IBBA.

INSPECTION OF EXHIBITS

1. The IBBA and its representative have the authority to require such tests as they deem necessary to verify

the accuracy of the classification and pedigree of exhibited animals. Said authority shall extend to and

cover the enforcement of all show rules as adopted by IBBA.

2. Each exhibitor shall submit his or her registered cattle to such tests and examinations as requested and/or

required by the IBBA, its authorized representatives, or those of the relevant show.

3. For and in consideration of the opportunity to participate in any function each exhibitor hereby releases the

Association, its officers, directors and representatives from negligence, any and all claims, suits, and

judgments past, present, or future, arising from or connected with the administration or use of such test or

examination and the resulting decision there from.

Special Rules for the International Brangus, Red Brangus, & Ultra Shows

1. Dental Inspection: All entries may be classified for judging on an age basis and should be entered in class

according to age. Teeth may be inspected by a veterinarian designated by the IBBA in order to determine

whether dental development is within allowable limits for the class so entered. If the veterinarian

determines that in his opinion dental development exceeds maximum allowable limits, the animal shall be

moved to an older class as determined by the veterinarian and shall remain in that class until determined

otherwise by subsequent mouthing or favorable appeal to the Executive Committee. If it is not possible to

move an animal, the animal may not be exhibited in such show.

2. Any exhibitor desiring to dispute or challenge the results of any such test, exam, or show rule enforcement,

as applied to his animals, shall do so in accordance with procedures established by the rules of the IBBA.

3. Appeal: An appeal from the decision of the veterinarian or designated association representatives

designated by the I.B.B.A. under sections 2 and 6 of the Inspections of Exhibits may be made to the IBBA

Board of Directors if the following requirements are satisfied: 1) the appeal is in writing and is signed by

the appealing party; and 2) the appealing party files the written appeal with the IBBA Board of Directors as

soon as possible after the veterinarian’s or designated association representatives’ decision is rendered and

in any event within six (6) hours of the time the veterinarian’s or designated association representative’s

decision was made. If an appeal satisfying the forgoing requirements is filed with the IBBA Board of

Directors, the IBBA Board of Directors shall hold a hearing at which the appealing party and the

veterinarian or designated association representatives whose decision is being appealed shall present

statements and other evidence that are relevant to the matter, following which the IBBA Board of Directors

shall render a decision which shall be final and conclusive.

IBBA DNA TYPING FOR PARENTAGE VERIFICATION

Each Brangus, Red Brangus, UltraBlack or UltraRed animal for which an entry application or registration

is received may be subjected to a DNA genotyping test in order to verify accuracy of parentage, according

to Rules 5, 6, and 7 of the International Brangus Breeders Association (IBBA) Show Eligibility and

Inspection of Exhibits. Staff or a representative of IBBA will supervise the collection of tail hair samples,

which can be taken at shows, fairs and events where IBBA contributes premium money or where IBBA

staff personnel participate. If a recorded parent is excluded (as a parent) as a result of DNA analysis, the

owner of the animal may request, as his or her own expense, further determination of the actual parent.

Failure to determine the sire or dam will result in the animal being listed in the IBBA Registry as a

“Parentage Dispute,” and the animal will be ineligible for future shows and exhibitions.

SHOW RULES VIOLATION POLICY

1. A show rules violation to be a valid complaint must be accompanied by a written statement describing the

violation, the perpetrator of the violation, and signed by an active member of the IBBA. This written

complaint will be presented to an Ethics Committee consisting of the Chairman, Vice-Chairman, Executive

Committee Liaison, and an appointed member. All four people will be current members of the show

committee. A minimum of two of these members must be present at the Show where the rule violation

occurs. The Chairman shall appoint other members of the Show Committee to ensure a minimum of two on

this committee at each IBBA approved show.

2. The Committee shall rule on the validity of the rule violation. The committee shall visit with the

perpetrator, present the written complaint, and make a ruling on the complaint if valid.

3. The perpetrator is entitled to appeal any decision made by the Ethics Show Committee to the Executive

Committee of the IBBA but the Executive Committee has the right to disqualify the perpetrator from the

IBBA approved show after hearing an appeal. The Executive Committee’s decision will be final.

4. Without the Executive Committee’s decision, the perpetrator cannot be disqualified from this particular

IBBA approved show. However, the animal can be disqualified by the Ethics Committee if the rule

violation is deemed valid. 5. For and in consideration of the opportunity to participate in any Brangus

function, each exhibitor hereby releases the Association, its officers, directors and representatives from

negligence, any and all claims, suits, and judgments past, present, or future, arising from or connected with

4. Animals must be registered with the American Charolais Association.

5. Only one person at a time shall lead animals into the show arena.


7. All animals to be eligible for an Open Charolais Breeding Class must be purebred and registered with the

AICA. Only bona fide (original) certificates of registration will be accepted as evidence of registration and

ownership, no copies.

8. All animals are subject to medical examination in order to determine age, and each anima will be present in

the show ring in its natural conformation without alteration or modification. Use of artificial tail heads not

permitted.

9. Any animal not having a legible tattoo or firebrand number is ineligible and will be barred from showing.

10. All animals shown in individual classes must be weaned, with the exception of the Cow/Calf class and

calves at the side of females calved after September 1, 2019. Calves at side must be purebred and

registered with the AICA. In the cow/calf class the calf must have the opportunity to nurse. The judge may

make the final placing decision based on these criteria. Females calved after September 1, 2019, must show

in individual female class appropriate to age. Nurse cows are not permitted.

11. It is recommended by the AHA Show Committee that classes with 10 or more head be considered to be

split, depending on animals’ birthdates in each particular class.

12. Any animal without a legible tattoo will not be eligible to show.

13. All Hereford animals must be officially recorded (registered) thirty (30) days prior to show date to be

eligible to show at a National Hereford Show.

14. An animal that is scurred (Scurs are small, rudimentary horns that are loosely attached to the head, which

are considered to be expressed only in animals that are genetically heterozygous for the polled gene) will

show in the polled division of Hereford shows. Once an animal is confirmed to be scurred by an AHA field

representative, then this designation will be placed on the animal’s registration papers. Once this

determination has been made and reported to the AHA office, then the owner may remove the scurs.

Animals with scurs removed will show in the polled division of Hereford shows. Once an animal is

confirmed polled or scurred they will retain this designation forever.

15. The individual classes will be made up and divided after the cattle are checked in at the show. They will be

judged from the youngest class to the oldest within each class.

16. Calves on the side of cow-calf pairs MUST BE the cow’s natural calf.

5. Animals must be registered with the Santa Gertrudis Breeders International.

6. Heifers 24 months of age or older to be eligible must have produced a calf or be safe in calf as verified by a

graduate veterinarian. If animal is open due to being in an embryo transfer program this fact must be

verified by a written statement signed by a licensed embryo technician.

7. A cow shown with calf at side: Calf must be her natural calf meeting the standard of excellence. Calf must

be registered if older than thirty days. If less than thirty days of age it is subject to registration.

8. All animals must be individually identified by tattoo, numerical firebrand or freeze brand.

9. To be eligible to compete in SGBI approved junior shows, animal(s) must be recorded in the name of the

junior member. This recorded junior must feed, fit, care for, and show the animal entered.

10. All animals must be exhibited with the hair brushed down on the entire body, legs, and tail with no foreign

objects attached to the animal in a manner as to alter the animal's conformation or change its appearance.

*Exhibitors failing to abide by this rule will be dismissed from the arena and/or forfeit premiums, awards

and points won by same exhibitors. (Specifically, all hair must be bushed down slick: head clipped smooth;

underline clipped blending sides; udder and teats clipped with no long hair emphasize udder; ears clipped

as to environmental and local standards; neck and brisket clipped; body clip using common sense as to

season; leg hair clipped (no steer or Brahman clips) and do not leave long from hock or knee to hoof; tail

head clipped; pull switch or brush out (no ball) trim tail (no shear except back side). FITTING

HANDBOOK SHOULD BE STUDIED

11. Each animal exhibited must be exhibited with the correct age and shown in the class corresponding with

their correct age. SGBI reserves the right to tooth animals without prior notice to the breeders in order to

verify age of cattle.

12. Entries in each class will be placed 1-2-3, etc. Animals are to be presented in descending order, according

to age.

13. Polled classes will be entered at each show ahead of time and be lined up according to age for the judge.

14. To be eligible to show in Best of Polled, animals to be slick polled with no scurs, no scars, no dehorning

and with no evidence of horny tissue. Animals will be inspected by Field Service Representative (if

present) assisted by one member of Shows and Exhibits Committee or Breed Standards Committee if

needed to settle disputes. If no Field Service Representative is present, it will be done by the committee

members not involved in that class.

15. There must be at least five (5) exhibitors and twenty-five (25) head of cattle, or a minimum of fifty (50)

head of cattle to constitute a recognized Santa Gertrudis Show.

16. In all shows in which fifty (50) head or less entered, all early and late classes may be combined at the

discretion of the show officials

17. Classes with over thirty (30) entries should be divided into sections and section winners return for final

placing.

18. The judge must be an SGBI approved judge.

19. Each exhibitor must be a member in good standing with SGBI. All exhibitors of Santa Gertrudis breeding

cattle must meet the requirement for registration as outlined in the Santa Gertrudis Standard of Excellence

and shall be governed by the last revised version of the Rules and Regulations for Approve Santa Gertrudis

shows as approved by the board of Director of Santa Gertrudis Breeders International, P.O. Box 1257,

Kingsville, TX. 7864. A copy may be obtained by contacting the association or viewed at

20. Dress for showing in an approved SGBI show shall be of clean and neat clothing. Hats or bareheaded with

no caps. This is for both Open and Junior Shows. No tennis shoes.

21. Juniors showing in open shows is allowed and encouraged. Entry must be shown by the owner or

immediate family member (sister, brother, mother, father, grandparents). No animal may be fitted or shown

by any open exhibitor at any time during the junior's ownership period. An exception is transportation; feed

and care, to a show may be allowed. Refer to junior ownership rules.

22. Each animal shall be presented in the show ring in its natural conformation and structure without alteration

or modification. Alteration or modification shall be defined to include any surgical, chemical, electrical, or

other appearance change for cosmetic purposes, save only branding, tattooing, foot trimming or dehorning.

Additionally, no pumping or filling of an animal with liquid diuretic or any other substance is allowed. All

animals and exhibitors found to be in violation of this rule will be banned for life from showing at a SGBI

approve show.

23. If entries are not properly fitted and good herdsmanship followed the owner may be asked to not display

their cattle until adhering to the proper procedures as outlined in our herdsmanship paper.

24. ETHICS: The showing of unethically fitted livestock or livestock of any ineligible age for exhibition in the

class entered is prohibited. Unethical fitting will be deemed to consist of any method altering the natural

conformation of any part of the animal's body. Animals showing signs of having been operated upon or

tampered with for the purpose of concealing faults in conformation or with intent to deceive relative to the

animal's soundness will be disqualified. Every exhibitor, in consideration of his entry being accepted,

agrees to submit any animal so entered by him to inspection and agrees to have such animal submitted to

any tests as may be designated and requested by the Shows and Exhibits Committee and agrees that the

conclusions reached by the committee as to whether such animal is unethically fitted or overage, shall be

final, without recourse against SGBI and designated personnel. Any false representation, interference or

unprofessional conduct on the part of any exhibitor will be dealt with by the Shows and Exhibits

Committee according to the equities of the case.

25. Any exhibitor whether it be the owner or custom fitter or anyone else who has the custody of the animal

being shown in any SGBI approved show, who shows an animal which has had an anabolic steroid

administration to it either by injection or diuretic or any other administration, shall be barred from showing

in an SGBI approved show for a period of six (6) months for the first offense, one year for the second

offense and for life for the third offense. The animal shall be barred from every showing in an SGBI

approved show again.

26. No pumping or filling of an animal with liquid, air or any other substance is allowed. Violations will result

in disqualification and banning from all shows of that exhibitor and/or owner.

27. Any exhibitor who knowingly shows an animal in a SGBI approved show who is in violation of the rules

herein above set forth relating to showing an animal in its natural conformation and structure as defined

herein above may be suspended by the Board of Directors for six (6) months for the first offense, one year

for the second offence and for life for the third offense.

28. Any person who furnished the birthday of the animal to SGBI either on the IPRA of some other document

(whereby that birthday information is transferred to the registration certificate) and that animal is exhibited

in a SGBI approved show with an incorrect age and the age determined by the SGBI designated

veterinarian exceeds the age listed on the registration certificate by more than 30 days, the person

furnishing the birthday above and such person furnishing said information to SGBI for inclusion on the

registration certificate shall be barred from showing in an SGBI approved show for a period of six (6)

months for the first offense, one year for the second offence and for life for the third offense. However, the

animal, if transferred to another owner, may be placed in the correct class and be shown again.

29. At all National Open Shows and at any other show determined by the Executive Committee of the Board of

Directors of SGBI, all animals shall be weighed and their weights and weight per day of age made known

to the judge and show officials. It shall be accomplished by the show officials and/or representative of

SGBI.

30. SGBI and its representatives have the authority to require such tests as they deem necessary to verify the

accuracy of the classification and pedigree of exhibited animals. Said authority shall extend to and cover

the enforcement of all show rules as adopted by SGBI.

31. Each exhibitor shall submit his registered Santa Gertrudis cattle to such tests and examinations as may be

requested and/or required by the SGBI, its authorized representatives, or the authorized representatives of

the relevant show or fair.

32. For and in consideration of the opportunity to participate in any SGBI approved show each exhibitor

hereby releases SGBI, its officers, directors and representatives from negligence, any and all claims, suits

and judgment past, present or future, arising from or connected with the administration or use of such test

or examination and the resulting decision there from.

33. Any exhibitor desiring to dispute or challenge the results of any test, exam, or show rule enforcement, as

applied to his animals, shall do so in accordance with procedures established by the rules of the association.

34. Appeals: An appeal from the decision of the veterinarian or designated association representative

designated by the SGBI under sections 1 and 4 of the Inspection of Exhibits may be made to the Executive

Committee of SGBI if the following requirements are satisfied: (1) the appeal is in writing and is signed by

the appealing party; and (2) the appealing party files the written appeal with SGBI Board of Directors or

SGBI Representative or fair officials as soon as possible after the veterinarian's or designated association

representatives' decision is rendered and in any event within six (6) hours of the time of the veterinarian's or

designated association representatives' decision was made. If an appeal satisfying the foregoing

requirements is filled with the SGBI Board of Directors, the Board of Directors shall hold a hearing at

which the appealing party and the Veterinarian or designated association representatives whose decision is

being appealed shall present statements and other evidence that is relevant to the matter, following which

the Board of Directors shall render a decision which shall be final and conclusive

35. Procedures to File Protest:

• File protest with show that infraction occurred. Follow their protest rules.

• File the same protest with the Shows and Exhibits Committee. Contact the chairman.

• Three exhibitors must sign the protest.

• All protests must be in writing and accompanied by a deposit of $100.00, cash or certified check,

which will be forfeited if protest is not sustained. Such protest must state plainly the cause of the

complaint or appeal and must be delivered to the Shows and Exhibits Committee within twenty-four

hours after the occasion for such protests.

• Order of hearing a protest:

a. Chairman of Shows and Exhibits Committee

b. Action by Shows and Exhibits Committee

c. Final action by Board of Directors

d. Follow appeal procedure as outlined in Rules and Regulations

• All rules and regulations that have been properly protested to the Shows and Exhibits Committee

shall be subject to the following penalties:

a. Loss of Premium money

b. Loss of Awards

c. Suspension from showing that animal as deemed necessary. Penalty may be for one show,

two or three or as long as deemed necessary for the offense.

d. Suspension of the exhibitor being the same as other SGBI Rules penalties.

36. Failure to adhere to each show’s specific rules shall also be subject to these penalties. Proper

protest procedures must be adhered to according to that particular show's rules. SGBI will follow each

show's rules and any action taken by a show will be upheld by SGBI in relation to its bearing on our point

show system.

37. DISQUALIFICATIONS: An exhibitor who has been disqualified from competition in any livestock show

or has had a premium withheld or withdrawn on the grounds of rule violation(s) will not be allowed to

compete in other shows. This shall include, but is not limited to, disqualification for fraud,

misrepresentation, unethical fitting or deception. Judging procedures will not be interrupted for protest

investigation; and depending on the basis of the protest, a decision may be withheld until a thorough

investigation is completed. No complaint or appeal that a judge over-looked an animal will be considered.

If any exhibitor, in any way, whether in person or by their representative, interferes with the judge(s), or

shows any disrespect to them or to show officials, the existing show may excuse him/her from the ring and

exclude them from further competition; exhibitor premiums that may have been awarded may also be

withheld. If an animal is disqualified after having won awards or premiums, the animals placing below him

may be moved up (at the option of the Shows and Exhibits Committee) to fill the vacated position.

RULES FOR HIGH POINT AWARDS A. For each point show, first place class winner will receive 2 points, second place class winner receives 1

point: Division champion receives 3 points: Reserve Division Champion receives 2 points, Grand

Champion receives 5 points and Reserve Grand Champion receives 4 points, best of polled receive 1 point

but does not count toward overall points.

B. Get of Sire and Produce of Dam points go toward Exhibitor/Breeder of the year.

C. Points will stay with animal if sold.

D. The Sire and Dam of the year should have points from at least two different offspring.

E. All points earned at the national Open Show are to be DOUBLED.

4. Entries are subject to provisions and rules for showing as set forth by the AHA Board of Directors and are

subject to supervision of the show committee representing the MHBA.

5. All exhibitors must be current/paid members of the Miniature Hereford Breeders Association to be eligible.

6. All entries will be measured. Maximum height for all entered is a frame score of one (1) on the extended

graph of the AHA Chart. Mature females cannot measure more than 45 inches at the point of their hip.

Mature males cannot measure more than 48 inches at the point of their hip.

7. Entries exceeding the height requirement will be disqualified.

8. All horned and polled Miniature Hereford cattle will show together.

9. Any animal without a legible tattoo will not be eligible.

Special Rules:




3. All Miniature Zebu cattle must be owned by the exhibitor prior to the show date of the Fair. November 1,

2021 will be the date by which age will be determined.

4. Each animal shown in this division must be registered with the National Zebu Cattle Club. A copy of the

original certificate of registration must be presented to the superintendent prior to the registration check

deadline and kept available at all times during the show for each animal exhibited.

5. All animals must be clean and brushed; there are washing facilities on the fairgrounds. No foreign objects

may be applied to the animal to alter its appearance, no artificial coloring, dye, glitter, or additional hair of

any kind. Horns and hooves may be polished but not painted. All animals must be shown in their natural

state, no full body clipping or burning of hair. Any animals deemed to be a management problem show be

shown with halter and nose lead. Horned or de-horned animals are acceptable.

Rules listed below are for the Show Sponsored by the State Fair of Louisiana.

Special Rules:



2. This is a two-day carrying cage show. All Carriers must have a leak proof pan. Friday show sponsored by

the State Fair of Louisiana. Saturday show sponsored by the East Texas Rabbit Breeders Association.

3. 4 class breeds will have Classes will include Sr. Buck, Sr. Doe, Jr. Buck and Jr. Doe for four (4) classes

with 6/8 Buck & Doe added for 6 class animals.

4. Animals showing signs of ear mites, sniffles, or any other disease will not be allowed to stay in the show

arena and will not be allowed to be shown.

5. All rabbits must be out on the show tables by the exhibitor.

6. Parents are responsible for the actions of their children.

7. Neither the State Fair of Louisiana, East Texas Rabbit Breeders association or the show committee will be

responsible for loss, damage, or injury to animals or exhibitors. All precautions will be taken for safety of

the animals and exhibitors.

8. Anyone not associated with the show (exhibiting, judging, working, etc.) will not be allowed to sell rabbits

or wares on the show premises.

9. No breeding allowed on show premises.

10. The show committee will furnish scales and these will be used to weigh all rabbits.

Chapter 18 Junior Poultry

Junior Poultry

Jr. Market Broilers Department: Junior Poultry

Division: 3000


Judge:

Special Rules:



2. Exhibitors must be present and part of the group when their pen of birds is presented to be evaluated by the

official judge.

3. Coop in time for Market Broilers is NOON (12:00 pm), Friday October 23, 2021. All broilers must be in

place by this time.

4. An exhibitor may enter two (2) pens of broilers. This same exhibitor may also enter standard-bred or

bantam poultry.

5. An entry must consist of three (3) pullets or three (3) cockerels.

6. The entry must weigh at least nine (9) pounds and must be 49 days of age or younger.

7. The entry must have been purchased from the LSU AgCenter and grown by the exhibitor. Chicks are

secured by the superintendent in charge from a commercial broiler hatchery at one day of age and

distributed to exhibitors who preorder.

8. Pullets and cockerels will be judged together.

9. After entries have been cooped, they must not be handled by anyone except the judge until all judging is

complete.

10. Judging Procedure: US Standard for live chickens will be used. Placing will be made on the basis of market

quality. Extension Agents and FFA Advisors are responsible for having youth holders at judging, otherwise

broilers will not be considered for premiums.

11. The show specifically reserves the right to have a tissue or blood laboratory analysis made on any poultry

entered for competition.

12. If an exhibitor bird dies, it will not be placed any higher than at the time of death.

13. All Broilers must have a State Fair leg band. All leg bands will be checked before the championship.

15. All Champion Market Broilers will be drug tested. All other Market Broilers are subject to drug testing

upon request from the State Fair of Louisiana officials.

a. Any food animal must not exceed FDA/EPA/USDA established tolerances for any foreign

substance (identified or unidentified) including drugs, pesticides, feed additives, or other

chemicals.

b. Positive test results of residue testing are subject to investigation by USDA and FDA for

prosecution.

c. Any Misrepresentation of a food animal that can potentially affect the acceptability of the carcass

will be considered fraud.

Special Rules:



2. All exhibitors must check in, in person, with show officials by the time listed on the schedule in order for

your birds to be judged. Any exhibitor not present, or not checked in will be disqualified.

3. Poultry barn will be closed at the time designated on the livestock schedule. No One will be allowed to

enter the poultry barn after this time.

4. Pre-register for showmanship classes with a poultry representative upon check in.

5. Exhibitors must be present to show his/her own birds.

6. Entries will be accepted and premiums paid according to the premium schedule on all worthy specimens of

standard breeds as listed in the premium list.

7. Exhibitors may exhibit no more than three (3) cocks, three (3) hens, three (3) cockerels, Three (3) pullets of

any one breed.

8. No bird substitutions or changes will be made at the show.

9. The State Fair of Louisiana will not be responsible for any loss that may occur from any cause.

10. All birds must be worthy of exhibit before they will be allowed in the show room.

11. Birds showing signs of colds or disease will not be allowed in the show room. Sick birds will be moved

immediately and not considered for awards, and the exhibitor’s entry fee may be refused by the State Fair.

12. No coops will be furnished for birds not on exhibition.

13. Bantams will be cooped, if necessary, three birds to standard exhibition coop. No two exhibitors will have

birds in the same coop.

14. The State Fair of Louisiana reserves the right to refuse entries for any reason deemed proper.

15. Birds can only compete in classes for which they are entered.

16. All birds must be leg banded and the band number stated on the coop tag.

17. Birds unavoidably detained through no fault of the exhibitor may be accepted or refused at the option of the

management.

18. The following definitions will apply to all exhibits in this department:

a. Single bird: a cock, hen, cockerel, or a pullet

b. Cock: a male bird twelve months old or older

c. Hen: a female bird twelve months old or older

d. Pullet: a female bird under twelve months old

e. Cockerel: a male bird under twelve months old

f. Individual Class: Class shall consist of all birds of one sex – age group of one breed.

g. Must have same sex birds in each pen.

19. The exhibitor is responsible for feeding and watering his or her own birds. Any birds left unattended during

the Poultry show will be removed from competition at the discretion of the State Fair of Louisiana.

20. Showmanship birds must be entered in the show to qualify for showmanship.

21. The State Fair will recognize any the accepted breeds & varieties listed by the American Poultry

Association in the following class:
