We are going to make a class journal about these insects.

You will work in groups of four (one group will have five) and research the type of insect your group has been assigned. Your group will draw pictures and write interesting facts about your insect. Then we will put your groups’ work together to make a class journal.

Then each of you will write a letter to the exterminator telling why this insect is helpful.

work together in a colony. The colony has worker bees, drones, and one queen bee. The worker bees are female and the drones are male. The Queen works very hard to lay 1000 eggs a day! The worker bees collect nectar from flowers to make honey.

because when the insect sits, its front legs are together and they look like they are praying. What they are really doing is waiting for lunch to walk by. Mantis do not live in colonies like some insects. They like to stay by themselves. Praying mantis help farmers by eating other insects that like to eat the farmers crops.

LadybugsLadybugs are a beloved insect on two counts. First, it is colorful in a very stylish and happy way. After all, who doesn't notice black polka dots on bright-red wing cases? Second, it saves our vegetable gardens and rose bushes from the scourge of aphids and other pests.

Dung BeetleDung Beetles are a very important part of the insect world. They help keep the earth clean by eating other animals waste. They also fertilize the soil. Like the praying mantis the dung beetle likes to be by themselves. They will also eat other dung beetles.
