Charlie Chapman drove a steam engine for Chaplain Industries. He was a choo-choo train conductor. Choo-choo Charlie chugged to Chinatown. Charlie chuckled and chatted with his friend as they went. Charlie waved at the chairman of their company. Charlie read a chapter in his book at a stop in Chattanooga. Charlie chased a bee out of the train. Charlie passed a church on his route. Charlie sat in a chair and ate chocolate. Charlie chortled at a funny joke in the comics. Charlie changed tracks when he had a chance. The choo-choo train ran on coal, and it smelled like charcoal. It was hot inside the choo-choo train, but chilly outside. Working on a choo-choo train meant doing lots of chores! There were many challenges on a choo-choo train.

Doug spent the day with his dad. They did lots of different things. First, they did some yard work. They dug a deep ditch and dumped the dirt. They drank some water. They dragged some downed branches. Across the yard, they saw a deer! Next, they did some playing. Doug liked to play basketball with dad. He did a difficult layup. Dad dunked the ball! They ran some drills. Then, they cleaned up because they were dirty. Now, they did some cooking for dinner. They had to knead the dough for bread. Dad got the other dishes ready. Doug helped make dessert. The kitchen looked like a disaster! It was dark outside when the doorbell rang. That had to mean mom was home for dinner. Dad answered the door. Mom smiled and hugged the duo. What a fun day with dad!

Starts with F Story By: Andrew Frinkle

Frank the Fox was very funny. There were lots of fun things to tell about Frank. He frolicked in the fields and flew over fences. He phoned his family when the farmer wasn’t looking. His eyes could focus on a fly from across the field. He chased Fran from down the street on her field trip. He could flounce in the ferns with fireflies flying overhead. He forgot how to fold his napkin. He fixed the farmer’s broken faucet. He took a photo with a fancy camera he found. He flicked a fan with his feet. When he was famished, he’d eat lots of fresh food. He feasted on all kinds of food. He could fetch the fish flopping in the river. He once found a fungus to eat! He could finish eating an entire bunch of fruit. He felt like he could fill his face forever! Frank the Fox was very funny, wasn’t he?

Gary worked with Gail and Gus in the gardens. Gary grew giant watermelons. He planted melons with a gap between the rows. Gail grew green grapes. Gus grew green beans. They had tools and gear in the garage to help them grow. It was great to grow things. At night, glowing fireflies glided over their fields. The fireflies looked like golden ghosts! Grant came to work with them. He wanted to grow green peppers. He was their guest, but he was not always a good guy. He liked to play games with the group. He played tricks with glue and glitter. He hid the gas for the truck! He put grasshoppers in the garage. He did not take out the garbage. The others in the group were glad to see him go! Gary, Gus, and Gail worked alone in the gardens after that.

Lizzy was a lucky lizard. She was lime green with black lines on her back. In the rainforest, she lived low by the ground. She leaped from leaf to leaf in the rainforest. She laughed and launched herself to the next leaf. Lizzy was a great climber with strong legs. Later, she played lazily in the lagoon. She lounged around on a large rock in the sun. She lapped at the water when she got a little thirsty. She ate little bugs that she caught with her long tongue. She licked her lips as she munched them down. She liked to eat lacewings for lunch. It was time to find a place to sleep – she never got lost. She lifted the left foot, and then the right. She located a spot by the loquat tree. Life was great for a lucky lizard like Lizzy.

They set up their new house, but it was NOT easy. It was so cold that he caught pneumonia! That is a nasty cold! Ned nearly had to go to the hospital to see a nurse. He never wanted to get sick like that again. They went to the nearest sea. At noon, they saw a narwhal. Nature is so beautiful. Ned is still a neat guy in Norway.

Quincy was great friends with the Queen. They had quality times together. They visited Queensland and the Queensboro Bridge. He made her laugh, because he was very quirky. He asked her silly questions. He would say strange quotes. He could quack like a duck. He liked to catch quail. He rode a donkey and used a quirt. He painted a picture of a quagga. (It’s like a zebra.) He got stuck in a quagmire. He ate a lot of sweet quinces. He would run very quickly. He pretended there was an earthquake. He quilted ugly quilts on purpose! He also knew when to be quiet. He could quit being funny. He could quell his laughter.

Simon made the seventh sibling. The seven sailed across the stormy seas. Super storms splashed the ships. The storms shook the ships side-to-side. Sadly, six ships sank slowly into the seas. Simon was on the seventh ship. Storms did not sink the seventh ship. Simon saved his six sisters. He sailed the last ship safely to shore. Simon saved the day of sailing. Ships had sunk, but the seven were safe. Sandy, Sheri, Sara, Sandra, Sarah, and Susan sincerely thanked Simon. Simon simply smiled.

Sherman was a sheep. He was very sheepish! That is sort of like being shy… Sherman was scared to get on a ship. He was scared to wear shoes. He was scared to shoot a toy gun. He was scared to hurt his shoulder. A shout made him shrink in fear. Sherman knew he should be a bit less sheepish. He had a bunch of strange ideas, too… He was sure he could fit into a shirt. He rubbed a lamp until it shined brightly. He shunned his neighbor Shirley, because she shrugged too much. He shirked at his chores. He wanted to be a shepherd, even though he was a sheep. He would not share his sugar cookies. He tried to eat a shingle from the roof. Sherman knew he should be a bit less strange.

Tiny Tom was a tourist. He was on a trip to a town beyond a tunnel. Someone told him about the town beyond the tunnel. Tiny Tom took the track to the tunnel. Tiny Tom tiptoed through the tunnel. Tiny Tom wanted to see the other side of the tunnel. The tunnel was terribly long and twisty. Tiny Tom got hungry and ate a tidbit. The tidbit was teensy pieces of truffles and tarts. He talked to himself in the tunnel. There were tons of things to tell himself. He talked about the tunnel and the town. Tiny Tom turned left and exited the tunnel. Tom took a look at the town ahead. Tiny Tom finally saw a tower in the town! Tiny Tom took lots of pictures of the town. Taking trips was terrific! Tiny Tom loved to travel.

Violet was a busy girl from Vermont. She lived in a country village. It was in a quiet valley. What a view it had! Unless the vapors and mist covered the village. Violet had several very active dogs to look after. They were nice dogs, not vicious. They always listened for her voice. Vincent was white and a bit vain. He spent a lot of time in front of the mirror. Vance was black with brown spots. He was difficult, and could really vex her! Vinnie had red fur and a busy tail. He liked to vanish and hide! Violet and the dogs ate food together. Their favorite food was Chicken Vindaloo. They would not eat veal, though. They were not vegetarians, either. She took the dogs everywhere. She even took her dogs on vacation with her! Then she went off to college at Vanderbilt. Of course she had to visit her dogs every weekend!

Wendy really loved water; it was wonderful. Water was great for watering, for washing, and for playing. Wendy went outside to water the watermelons. While she was there, she watered the wisteria and pulled weeds, too. When she went inside, she washed down some food with water. Water went well with many foods! Wendy washed her wet clothes in the wash tub. Wendy filled water balloons while she waited. Wendy whipped a white water balloon at her brother Wayne. Wayne whimpered when it whacked him in the face! Why did she do that? Wendy worried he would tell their mom, who was named Wilma. Mom would way overreact – she was weird like that. Wendy did Wayne’s chores as a way to apologize. She was whisper quiet and worked very hard. Water sure was good for washing and for watering. Sometimes it was good for some wet fun, too. Other times it got Wendy in trouble… This time, Wayne kept it a secret.

Yasmine looked at a picture book about the letter Y. It showed a furry yak and a yield sign. It showed a ball of yarn and a yurt. It showed some yucky stuff! Yikes, it showed some scary stuff, too. Yasmine watched TV with her dad. They were watching the Yankees. “Yes!” Dad yelled when they scored. “You really like the Yankees, Dad.” Yasmine was a happy youth, 7 years old. Afterward, Yasmine was hungry for some yummy treats. She ate a boiled egg, the white and the yolk. She ate some yogurt. She yawned again. She was yearning to sleep…
