3. TAKE THE ASSESSMENT TESTThe Assessment Test is a placement test determines each student's proficiency level in Mathematics andEnglish. Chaffey College does not accept assessment scores from other colleges/universities. It isimportant that you schedule an appointment to take the assessment test as soon as possible. • Upon satisfactory completion of ACCTGFS 453 (U.S. and California Tax Preparation), students will be recognized bythe State of California as registered tax preparers.
• In addition to ACCTGFS 453, students can complete basic preparation for the IRS Enrolled Agents exam by takingACCTGFS 454 (corporate income tax).
• The college encourages accounting students to participate in the Voluntary Income Tax Assistance (VITA) program.In this program students are trained in federal and state income tax preparation in order to assist low-income andelderly taxpayers.

HIGHLIGHTSThe program places an emphasis on hands-on use of current technologies in high definition video equipment, multi-track digital audio workstations, video editing, screenwriting software tools and access to professional internships.Chaffey's unique program houses a professional HD television studio and state-of-the-art equipment for motionpictures, television, on-air AM radio station and audio production facilities. The college has recently investedsignificant resources in the electronic media arena with audio and postproduction labs and lighting equipment;including 4K HD Video and Pro 8mm motion picture production cameras, multi-camera HD TV production facility andlive on-air radio broadcast station 1630 AM with radio Internet streaming.
Career OpportunitiesStudents completing the broadcasting and cinema certificateprogram are prepared for entry-level work in the radio,television, feature movies, media and entertainment industries.Job opportunities include: commercial, cable, independent,industrial, governmental, medical, and religious televisionproduction, management and operations and Internet audio andvideo streaming.
Students have also been placed in jobs for digital editing, as wellas script analysis and screenwriting for broadcasting andcinema. Many Chaffey College graduates have gone on tobecome radio personalities, broadcast technicians, movieproducers, television and film actors, screenwriters, cabletelevision producers and managers, and some have formed theirown independent production companies.
Graduates from the Broadcast and Cinema degree program havesuccessfully transferred to USC and UCLA film schools andother colleges and universities, including Loyola MarymountUniversity, CSU Northridge, CSU Fullerton, CSU Long Beach,CSU Los Angeles, and Chapman University.

Fashion Design/MerchandisingProgram DescriptionThe Fashion Design Program prepares thestudent for employment in fashion design,product development and manufacturing. Thetwo-year curriculum may be completed bytaking a combination of day, afternoon andevening courses. Specific courses for thecertificate cover apparel construction,patternmaking, fashion illustration, apparelproduction, CAD design and patternmaking,draping, textiles and industrial sewing.
The Fashion Merchandising Programprepares the student for the planning,organization, and development of fashionproducts. Apparel manufacturing and retailsales constitute one of the largest businesssources in Southern California. The two-yearcurriculum may be completed by taking acombination of day, afternoon, and eveningcourses. Specific training in for this fieldcovers fashion trends, consumer demand,and wholesale concepts. Courses includemerchandising, management, visual display,history of fashion, textiles, personal style andbusiness classes.
Career OpportunitiesFashion Merchandising is an interdisciplinaryprogram one shared with the businessdepartment and prepares the student foremployment in buying, visual merchandising,product development, e-commerce, and retailmanagement.

JournalismProgram DescriptionThe Journalism Program prepares studentsfor transfer to a degree program in journalismor mass communications and for a career inmass media, writing, photography,publishing, or public relations. Thejournalism department offers classes in basicnewswriting, multimedia newswriting, andnewspaper production (print and web based).These courses also introduce other forms ofmedia writing and production, such as videopresentations of news and feature stories,magazine writing, and broadcasting. GerontologyProgram DescriptionThe older adult population is increasing withthe 85 and older growing more than any otherage group in the United States. This trend willcontinue as the “Baby Boomers begin to turnage 65 in 2011. Gerontology, the study ofaging, prepares students for careers workingdirectly or indirectly with older adults andtheir families. This is an interdisciplinary field:psychological, sociological, biological, andenvironmental aspects of aging are explored,as well as public policy and social ethics. Theprogram prepares students to enter theworkforce or to continue their education ingerontology. Family caregivers and olderadults also find the courses helpful.

Program DescriptionThe Nursing Assistant Program offersopportunities for entry-level employment inhealth care facilities. Preparation in thefundamental principles of basic nursing carenecessary to meet the hygiene, comfort,safety and psychosocial needs of clients ishighlighted. Students develop skills incommunication and interpersonal relations.The program follows the guidelinesestablished by the California Department ofPublic Health. After completion of the NursingAssistant (NA) program, the student mayapply to become a Certified Nursing Assistantthrough the California Department of PublicHealth.
The Home Health Aide Program follows themodel curriculum as developed by theCalifornia Department of Public Health. Itintroduces students to the role of a homehealth aide and employers expectations. Italso assists with the interpretation of themedical and social needs of patients, personaland in-home care and service skills, nutrition,and food preparation for the client, andcleaning and care tasks in the home.
HIGHLIGHTSThe Nursing Assistant Program has a consistently high pass rate through an approved State testing agency and mayapply for certification through the California Department of Public Health. Pharmacy TechnicianProgram DescriptionThe Pharmacy Technician Program offers thetraining required to apply for State ofCalifornia licensure as a pharmacy technicianand can also lead to an Associate Degree inPharmacy Technology. This programprepares students for entry into one of thefastest growing health care careers. Throughthis program students have the opportunityto develop strong technical skills in thehospital, community, and ambulatorysettings. The technical training is focused onsterile technique, pharmaceuticalcalculations, accuracy, and communicationskills. This training allows technicians tofunction in all aspects of pharmacy service.The Pharmacy Technician Program followsguidelines established by the AmericanSociety of Health-System Pharmacists, andprovides the training needed to take thePharmacy Technician Certification Board’snational exam.

The Pharmacy Technician Program is affiliated with renowned regional medicalcenters and community pharmacies. Students learn current pharmaceutical practices in a high-tech pharmacylaboratory.
Students in the Pharmacy Technician program proceed through the program as a cohort group. This structuredcurriculum allows students to complete the program in three semesters including externship. Completion of theprogram affords students the opportunity to register with the California Board of Pharmacy and to take the nationalPharmacy Technician Certificate Exam.

Radiologic TechnologyProgram DescriptionThe Radiologic Technology program isaccredited by the Joint Review Committee onEducation in Radiologic Technology(JRCERT) and the State of California.Students may receive an associate in sciencedegree upon completion of the program.Graduates are eligible to apply for admissionto the certification examination administeredby the American Registry of RadiologicTechnologists (ARRT) and the State ofCalifornia (CRT) flouroscopy examination.There are fees for obtaining licensure byexamination. The program articulates withthe California State University, Northridge andLoma Linda University Radiologic TechnologyPrograms for the bachelor’s degree.
The program accepts a limited number ofstudents each year during the month ofFebruary. Prospective students areencouraged to see a counselor early todetermine eligibility.
