WHAT THEY ARE?Start-stop batteries are either AGM (Absorbed Glass Matt) that are completely sealed, or EFB (Enhanced Flooded Battery) that can be topped up.

WHAT THEY DO? AGM and EFB batteries are used for start-stop systems fitted to over 90% of today’s cars, and those that require smart or brake regeneration charging.

ADDITIONAL FAQsQ: Are AGM/EFB batteries only used on start-

stop cars?

A: Not always, as they also feature on cars with smart charging and those featuring significant electronics.

Q: Can a normal lead acid battery be used to replace an AGM or EFB?

A: The simple answer is NO! This is because the charging system on a vehicle fitted with AGM/EFB is different and will damage a standard type battery in a few months.

Q: My car has an AGM battery fitted as Original equipment, which are very expensive, so can I put a cheaper EFB on it?

A: No. An AGM can only be replaced with AGM, however an EFB can be upgraded with an AGM.
