On opening night, Feb. 3, Starlight Theatre will stream via Facebook Live

the opening number of its production of the hit Broadway musical comedy

KANSAS CITY, Mo. – With Valentine’s Day right around the corner, Starlight Indoors will share the love (and laughter) of the musical comedy First Date by streaming the opening number live on Facebook. The Facebook Live event will stream on the theatre’s page (facebook.com/kcstarlight) at 8 p.m. CST on Friday, February 3. “We are excited to bring our followers and fans the opening moments of First Date,” said director Caroline Lakin Gibel. “It’s exciting to be able to extend our audience into the digital space through live-streaming platforms like Facebook Live.” First Date is a modern, laugh-out-loud musical that follows Aaron and Casey through what starts as a casual drink at a busy restaurant but turns into a high-stakes dinner. As their date unfolds in real time, the couple soon discovers they’re not alone - restaurant staff morphs into the couple’s family members, opinionated best friends, pushy therapists and even unforgiving exes. The voices in their heads, now embodied on the stage, sing and dance the couple through ice breakers, appetizers and even awkward pauses in conversation. First Date played on Broadway for five months in 2013. It is the original creation of three

talented young writers. Austin Winsberg, writer of the TV hit “Gossip Girl,” authored the book,

while Alan Zachary and Michael Weiner, whose credits include Secondhand Lions and Twice

Charmed, penned the music and lyrics. The three, friends since high school and post-college,

wrote First Date based on their own experiences in the modern dating scene.
