No item numbers for Katrina Kaif! The trend of item numbers featuring Bollywood’s leading ladies just refuses to die down. But at a time when even the likes of Kareena Kapoor don’t shy away from them (she’s doing Halkat Jawani for Heroine and a special number for Dabangg 2), Katrina Kaif has decided she’s had enough. For now, at least. Katrina started her year with the chartbuster ‘Chikni Chameli’ in Agneepath, and the Bodyguard (2011) title track with Salman Khan before that. In Tees Maar Khan (2010), of course, there was little to talk about besides ‘Sheila ki jawani’. The uncrowned queen of item numbers, however, has now decided to shift her focus.Currently filming Yash Chopra’s comeback film in London, she says she won’t be making another dance appearance anytime soon. “I am happy with all the appreciation coming my way for the songs I’ve been part of. But I’m currently focusing on the three films I am doing. There are no plans for any other solo song appearances (sic) as of now,” says Katrina, who is currently shooting with Shah Rukh Khan and Anushka Sharma.“If something really interesting

comes my way in the future and I can make time for it, I’ll consider it.” For now, the actor is happy filming in her hometown and is overwhelmed with the number of fans who’ve been visiting her on the sets. “I’ve spent some of the best

years of my life in London. We just spent Christmas here last year,” says Katrina. “Strangely, I’ve shot some of my best films here like Namastey London (2007). I hope I’m lucky this time too.”

Farah Khan choreographs for KJo’s SOTY!Farah Khan and Karan Johar’s friendship goes a long way. Despite being a successful director now, Farah has been the choreographer in all of Karan’s directorial ventures and is also choreographing for his next biggie Student Of The Year.Farah excitedly tweeted, “Shooting with karan johar 4 studnt of the year! Frm kuch kuch 2 now..what a journey.” Karan too seems to be enjoying having Farah on the sets of his directorial venture. KJo tweeted, “Shooting with @TheFarahKhan for SOTY!!! Shooting alia’s’ introduction song!!! Farah is fabulous as always!!!! And extremely entertaining!!!”

is reportedly inspired from the great love story of the Bollywood legendary actors Raj Kapoor and Nargis.Divulging on that, a source close to the film says, “The film is not a biopic on the love story of Raj Kapoor and Nargis. It is trying to re-capture the romance of one of the most romantic onscreen couples of Bollywood.”The source adds, “Aanand is a huge Raj Kapoor fan. He has seen all his films innumerable

times. Apart from everything else, the director is hugely inspired from Raj Kapoor’s romantic side. He feels Raj

Kapoor was one of the most romantic men, onscreen and off-screen. He shared great onscreen chemistry with his co-star Nargis. They are the most romantic screen pair of Hindi films and did 16 movies together.” Reportedly, Aanand also gifted the DVDs of Shree 420, Awaara and Mera Naam Joker to South star Dhanush to polish his Hindi speaking skills. But the source says, “He also wanted the ‘Kolaveri Di’ star to study the actor as

a romantic hero, the way he used his eyes and smiled. He wants his lead pair to have the same screen innocence and

chemistry as Raj Kapoor and Nargis. The source said that makers may try and feature one of the most famous song, ‘Pyar Hua, Ikraar Hua Hai’ from the film Shree 420 in the movie. Director Aanand L Rai confirms, “For me, Raj Kapoor has been a very inspiring personality and it is bound to reflect in few of my films. Any filmmaker who is making a love story will try to re-create the chemistry Raj Kapoor and Nargis shared onscreen.”

Chuck Norris Accuses Obama of “Pro-Gay Boy Scouts” PolicyHere’s a new Chuck Norris fact for you: the actor is very unhappy with Barack Obama right now.

In light of James Turley - a Boy Scouts of America official and CEO of the accounting firm Ernst & Young - recently stating that he planned on working to change the longtime rule that bans homosexuals from serving as Scout leaders, Norris has penned a column for Ammo Land that places the blame for this maneuver on the President’s shoulders.Writes asks Norris:Hasn’t America reached a new low in its history when its president (and the honorary president of the BSA!) distances himself and his administration from the Boy Scouts of America yet invites groups such as the Secular Student Alliance to participate in its

Kelly and John did not do interviews but posed for fan photos and were all smiles as they walked down the carpet

and two others from his past (Doug Gotterba and Robert Randolph). No charges have been filed

against Travolta, who has adamantly denied each and every claim by the above men through his attorney, Marty Singer.Savages also stars Blake Lively (Gossip Girl), Taylor Kitsch (John Carter), Aaron Johnson and Benecio Del Toro. Look for it in theaters July 6.

Small screen, big bucks!Even though TV might be called the small screen, the pay cheques of popular actors on the tube aren’t small by any means. According to industry sources, actor Ronit Roy commands the highest remuneration at Rs. 1.25 lakh per day for his hit Sony show, Adalaat. He rose to fame with Balaji’s Kasauti Zindagi Kay in 2003 and with his recent film Udaan’s (2010) success, he has cemented his position as a bankable actor in the industry.Another reliable actor is Bade Achche Lagte Hain’s (BALH) lead Ram Kapoor, who also demands a huge pay cheque. “Ekta ensures that her TV shows feature popular actors like Ram, Sakshi Tanwar, Mona Singh and Sameer Soni. She casts them as they have high recall value and, therefore, she is willing to pay them well for their parts,” says an industry source. When BALH entered the TAM top 10 TV shows list a year ago, Ram got a pay hike and now makes Rs. 1 lakh per day.Television producer Sumeet Mittal agrees, “Ram and Ronit are paid well above a lakh a day. Most TV actors are paid on a per-day basis. New faces or lesser-known actors might get paid anywhere around Rs. 10,000 per day. The pay packets usually depend on the makers, the show and the actor’s popularities,” adds Mittal.“New actors make piddly sums ranging from Rs. 5,000 to Rs. 10,000, but if their show is a hit, they make mega bucks on

their second venture,” adds the source. After actor Gurmeet Choudhary’s show Geet became a hit, he was signed on for Mittal’s Punar Vivaah, for which he is currently charging over Rs. 70,000 per day. Actor Hina Khan makes Rs. 20,000-Rs 30,000, while actors Angad Hasija and Kinshuk Mahajan charge Rs. 30,000-Rs 40,000 because they have the hit show Bidaai to back them up.Actor Anas Rashid, the lead of the current number one show, Diya Aur Baati Hum, makes Rs. 15,000-Rs 20,000 only.“There is some disparity in the payments. Many actors ask for unheard-of prices and due to the channel’s preference get paid more than they deserve. At times, a popular face is needed in a cameo role to hook the audience. Actors benefit from such situations. However, to work with big production

houses owned by Ekta Kapoor, Rajan Shahi or Sumit Mittal, actors are known to have made compromises,” claims a source.Highest paid actors on tvRonit Roy -Rs 1.25 lakhRam Kapoor - Rs. 1 lakhMona Singh -Rs 70K-Rs 80KSakshi Tanwar -Rs 60K-Rs 80KGurmeet Choudhary -Rs70K Shweta Tiwari -Rs 50K-Rs 65KPratyusha Banerjee -Rs 40K-Rs 50KKaran Kundra -Rs 50KKavita Kaushik -Rs 50KAamna Shariff -Rs50K

Karan Kundra has a verified Twitter handle!Twitter is an important social media that has been utilised well by Hollywood and American television actors. Their Indian counterparts however have been found wanting on this front. Their presence on social media is

sparse but Karan Kundra has managed to break the monotony! Karan Kundra the dashing actor who made it big with Imagine TV show Kitani Mohabbat Hai is the first Indian TV star to have a verified account on Twitter.

The actor has +17000 followers on Twitter while he has more +267K followers on his Facebook fan page. Karan Kundra is one of the few Indian actors who interacts with his fans through social media on a regular basis and that has

helped him build a rapport with his fans. Apart from Karan Kundra, actress Kritika Kamra, Krystle Dsouza and Nia Sharma are also very active on social media while their fan count is increasing as well. Karan’s account is

managed by his brothers and sisters who call themselves as ‘Karan’s Angels’ and their help has been monumental in building his popularity and fan base. We tried getting in touch with Karan Kundra but he was unable for comments.

I don’t like bragging: Irrfan KhanHe is one of the few Indian actors with international projects like Slumdog Millionaire and The Amazing Spider-Man to his credit, but actor Irrfan Khan doesn’t believe in blowing his own trumpet. He says he hates the idea of bragging, and lets his work speak. The Amazing Spider-Man, inwhich he plays Dr. Ratha, is set to release in India June 29, but Irrfan has hardly spoken about it.Asked why, he said: “I don’t brag about it because I don’t like bragging. I hate bragging. I don’t enjoy bragging. Sometimes people have an attitude that bragging brings something to them, but I don’t want to achieve anything from bragging. I don’t like that.”At a press conference here Thursday, ahead of the movie’s release, Irrfan said he speaks only when important.“I definitely do publicity for a film where I feel it is necessary, where I am excited about it, where I feel they need me... I go and do it. But I would like to be in a situation, where I don’t have to do publicity for a film and people understand there is something special about it themselves. The audiences are not fools, they can smell films,” he said. Some of Irrfan’s earlier

international projects have included A Mighty Heart and The Darjeeling Limited and American HBO show In Treatment. The actor, who won praises galore for his work in Hindi biopic Paan Singh Tomar about an athlete-turned-dacoit, has already cautioned fans about the length of his role in The Amazing Spider-Man.“I don’t have a lengthy role

in this film. I did it because it was a experience for me. In Hollywood, they call it as a pivotal role because it moves the story in some way, but I don’t think it’s a very big role. For me, my presence is enough and I enjoyed it,” said the 45-year-old.Directed by Marc Webb, the film also features Andrew Garfield, Emma Stone and Martin Sheen.

Kolkata girl Sneha Upadhyay – the Tyra Banks of India?

Bollywood has no dancing style of its own: Madhuri DixitThe Hindi film industry is devoid of a distinctive style of dance, says dancing queen Madhuri Dixit, who feels Bollywood has become a melting pot of all forms of the art.“I think Bollywood is an amalgam of all dance styles. Bollywood has no style of its own. The style is a cliche. There are so many dance styles all over the world and we get to see them all in one song itself. So this is Bollywood’s specialty,” said Madhuri in an interview.“As soon as new styles come in, like hip-hop is becoming popular now, you see dancers amalgamating it into our own dancing. The dance forms get a Bollywood twist and it becomes a new style. So Bollywood is always incorporating not just Indian and folk, but western dances too,” she added.Madhuri, who feels it is an exciting time for Bollywood, is credited with dance hits like Humko aaj kal hai, Dhak dhak, Ek do teen, Que sera sera, Kaahe chhed mohe and Aaja nachle. In each of these numbers, she has showcased the variety she is capable of.The diva took a break from showbiz when she married US-based surgeon Sriram Nene and shifted to Denver from Mumbai to start a family. Now she is back in tinsel town for good, and judges celebrity participants on dance reality show Jhalak Dikhhla Jaa 5.She looks as fit as ever, and her skin glows even more. What’s the secret?“It’s just the discipline. You have to be disciplined. I dance regularly and exercise. One has to be fit. One thing good is that I have no bad habits! So for me it’s a healthy lifestyle all the way,” she said.On the small screen, she was

This mesmerizing model was born in Howrah (near Kolkata) and was a studious conservative middle class family geek till she participated in the Bhawanipur College Fest and her entire life changed! The scintillating Sneha Upadhyay is the first runner up of the Kingfisher Calendar Girl 2012 hunt in association with NDTV Good Times and chosen in the Top 3 after a long hunt for a talent race among contestants from all across India. The girl, who had not even worn track pants is now scorching the ramps across India with what ace lens man Atul Kasbekar calls is the ‘perfect body’.And renowned Bollywood designer Manish Malhotra chose only this Kolkata girl for his shows. The diva now aims to model her career a la Trya Banks and wants to replicate the global icon’s success in India.Sneha started off with an audition as a ‘Cat Woman’ and the model with ‘Rhythm in her Body’ had leading fashion choreographers drooling over the Indian equivalent of Hollywood star Halle Berry! In fact, Sushma Puri from Elite Model Managemetn chased her all the way upto the Kolkata Fashion week in order to sign her on. And ace designer Nandita Thirani chose her as the lucky opening mascot for showcasing her Lakme Fashion Week collections. And then followed a string of fashion designer fans including Manish Malhotra (he only chose Sneha from Kolkata she closed for him in the Kolkata Fashion Week), Jaya Misra and Shantanu-Nikhil amongst others.“I always had a feeling of being extraordinary and rising above my surroundings but didn’t have any clue. I strode the normal path for a girl of

my background till my teens. My letter from the engineering college got misplaced and I was mulling entering dental college. When suddenly a new avenue of ramp modeling opened up in my life. It created a ruckus in my conservative household and my parents were very upset. My elder sister stood by me and gave me the confidence and courage to pursue it,” says Sneha. When 5-6 hoardings with my face were put up across Kolkata, my parents finally relented when people appreciated my work. And yes, she has not taken a single penny from them for her pursuits. On the Kingfisher Calendar show, Sneha was initially very disturbed with the emotionless approach of the crew! “I was just another candidate with a lovely body. I wanted to tell them that I had an equally intelligent mind to back my body up. I am proud that it was

seen in the tasks that I did. The other candidates found my reading habits and my religious chanting from my rosary very weird. And while they used to diet, I used to eat quite a lot and still maintain my demure size zero tall frame. But when I started posting success after success, they started taking me seriously,” says Sneha. She adds,As in sync with her Kolkata mindset, Sneha dreams of doing meaningful globally crossover films in the mould of actress such as Aparna Sen, Smita Patil and Madhuri Dixit amongst others. She is still adjusting to the metropolis of Mumbai in terms of films, finance and fashion. And Sneha Upadhyay is very clear that she is here to be and carve a niche for herself while leaving her footprints in the sands of time.

last seen on the judge’s seat in Jhalak Dikhhla Jaa 4, and she admits “TV is an immediate way to get in touch with your fans.”“Thousands of households have a TV and it is great that I can be in so many houses at a time. It’s so wonderful,” she added. The 45-year-old is also ready for her new innings in Bollywood with two films - Anubhav Sinha’s Gulab Gang and Vishal Bhardwaj’s Dedh Ishqiya, and she is upbeat about both projects.“It’s definitely an exciting time. Bollywood has taken a leap. The audience has matured, they are ready to see different kinds of subjects and topics and different kinds of films are being made. People who have stepped in are extremely professional and so everything is done professionally,” said Madhuri, last seen on the big screen in 2007 movie “Aaja Nachle”.She clarifies Gulab Gang

is nothing about gangsters, adding: “It’s about a group of women who help other women and help solve problems that nobody else can solve. That’s what fascinated me about the film... because it is all about woman power.”For Dedh Ishqiya, a sequel to 2010 hit Ishqiya, Madhuri said: “It can’t really be called a woman-centric movie as there are four important characters in the movie, I’m looking forward to working with Arshad Warsi and Naseeruddin Shah. I’ll be working with him in a meaningful role after a long time.”In the meantime, she says her family, including her husband and kids, Arin and Raayan, has settled well in Mumbai.“For me, it wasn’t difficult. I’ve grown up here. For my husband and my kids it was tough. But they have adjusted very well. They love the food. My husband loves the dhaba food,” she added.

It’s time you get married: Katrina to SalmanIt’s the million dollar question, one that we’ve speculated over several times — concerning Salman Khan’s marriage plans. However, not many have been able to question the superstar about it.But now, Katrina Kaif has managed to do the unthinkable — grill Salman about his marriage, if only on the silver screen. An insider from Yash Raj Films, who has seen the first trailer of Ek Tha Tiger (the film sees Salman and Katrina acting together) informs that there is a “very tongue-in-cheek” sequence about his marriage. “It’s a sweet and heart-warming sequence. And the way it (the trailer) has been cut, audiences will love Katrina’s direct question to Salman. What you will see in the trailer is Kat’s character (Zoya) asking Bhai (Tiger) if he is married. Later, she goes on to suggest that “it’s time you get married”. We are sure it will generate a lot of interest among audiences,” says the insider. Salman and Katrina, who have shared screen space in films like Maine Pyaar Kyun Kiya (2005), Partner (2007) and Yuvvraj (2008), were last seen together in the special

title song of Salman’s 2011 blockbuster, Bodyguard. “If you go into details, it’s Bhai and Katrina’s only romantic film featuring them as a lead pair,” says the insider. And Salman has always maintained that Katrina and he share a good working equation. “Yes, she is very comfortable with me and my entire family. In fact, she is a part of the family. We have known her for the longest time now,” Salman told us earlier

when Bodyguard released. As for Ek Tha Tiger, all we know so far is that Salman plays a RAW agent, while Katrina is a Trinity Music College student and choreographer. The trailer is likely to hit theatres on June 29. The film, directed by Kabir Khan (he has made New York in 2009 and Kabul Express in 2006) is scheduled to release on August 15. While Katrina is busy shooting in London, Salman wasn’t available for comment.

Shahid Kapoor and Priyanka Chopra’s Toronto Kahani!Fandemonium ripped through Toronto on June 22 as fans of all ages, including a 5 year old boy from Afghanistan, waited patiently for hours at Toronto’s prestigious Elgin Theatre for their favorite Bollywood stars to arrive for the premiere of the movie Teri Meri Kahani (TMK). The film produced by Vicki Bahri and directed by Kunal Kohli, has the most happening hero of the moment, Shahid Kapoor and the dusky beauty Priyanka Chopra

alongside him in this eternal love story.A rising crescendo of screaming fans greeted the stars as they arrived. Priyanka looked ravishing in her simple yet stylish green dress accompanying stud Shahid in a dark blue suit with shirt unbuttoned to reveal just a glimpse of his lithe athletic body. They went together as a team through the line of media interviews on the Red Carpet smiling and answering all the questions patiently. Fans banged on the closed doors, yelling in ecstasy! The stars moved inside the theatre and after a brief introduction on stage, they sizzled together displaying their off screen chemistry; laughing and smiling at the audience and loving every moment of being in Toronto with their beloved fans. Shahid bowled over the audience with a short and sweet recital of romantic shayari (poetry) from the movie while Priyanka graciously obliged all the fans by signing autographs. The couple did not show any

signs of jet lag despite their very hectic schedule after a successful premiere of TMK first in Dubai and then in London. Shahid and Priyanka had arrived in Toronto for the last and final stop in their international circuit for the promotion of their new film TMK. Kunal Kohli was excited to be in Toronto and was very happy with the exuberant reception by our city’s Bollywood fans .The star team did not expect such a warm and emotional welcome from our Torontonians! As the movie started, the couple went on to attend an after party event on the west side of

town – in Brampton. They were warmly welcomed by large crowds outside the banquet hall along with dhol players and beautiful SAMA model dancers who appropriately added glamour to the occasion. Inside the crowded Grand Empire banquet hall, on stage, the stars with the producer and director shared their love

of Toronto with the audience. Priyanka and Shahid both had fond memories of their previous visits to Toronto – Priyanka for the Toronto International Film Festival for her film ‘What’s your Rashi’ and for IIFA 2011 and Shahid during the filming of his movie ‘Kismet Konnection’. They left the hall after a rapid fire round of questions à la Koffee with Karan style and had the audience wanting for more especially after Shahid demonstrated his sexy moves on stage!

Tony Greig urges India to put cricket before cashFormer England captain Tony Greig has urged India to accept that “spirit of cricket is more important than generating billions of dollars.” India is cricket’s economic powerhouse, driving the finance of the global game through the sponsorship and broadcast deals that derive from the sport’s huge popularity in the world’s second most populous nation. The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) also oversees the lucrative Twenty20 Indian Premier League franchise tournament. However, many observers believe the BCCI has used its huge influence for its own interests rather than those of the global game and that, as a result, the International Cricket Council (ICC) is not functioning properly. They cite as evidence the BCCI’s ongoing refusal to accept the television replay Decision Review System ( DRS), despite repeated calls for its universal implementation by senior ICC committees.South Africa-born Greig, 65,

giving the 2012 MCC Spirit of Cricket Cowdrey Lecture, named after his late former England teammate Colin Cowdrey, at Lord’s on Tuesday,

Sania Mirza, who received the Olympic nod late on Tuesday, came out strongly against Leander Paes and the All India Tennis Association, for treating her no better than a pawn to appease one angry superstar (Paes) who is upset with another of the game’s big names Mahesh Bhupathi. “I am thrilled to have qualified to represent India at the Olympics in London,” she said in a press release. “I am extremely grateful to the International Tennis Federation for the faith they have reposed in me by giving me a wild card entry that gives me a cherished opportunity to represent my country at the Olympics for the second time in my life.” Sania went on to add: “Since the day AITA announced the team for the Olympics a lot of questions have been raised by friends, colleagues, their parents and of course, by the media. As I thought these questions were purely hypothetical without my having qualified, I did not think it was appropriate for me to respond to them at that point of time.” She took on Paes’ father first. “To Dr Vece Paes, who on camera asked me to give in writing my decision to partner his son for the mixed doubles event, I would like to point out that my

commitment is to my country. For the sake of India I’m committed to play with Paes or Bhupathi or Rohan Bopanna or Somdev Devvarman or Vishnu Vardhan. There should never ever be a question on this although if asked, I am entitled to have my preferences.” Sania didn’t spare long-time friend Bhupathi either. “Mahesh has firmly stood by his commitment to play with his men’s doubles partner Bopanna as he genuinely believed it was good for India. However, in the process, he sacrificed the commitment he made to me to try and win an Olympic medal together for India.” The 25-year-old Indian star went on to add: “As an Indian

woman in the 21st century, what I find disillusioning is the humiliating manner in which I was put up as a bait to try and pacify one of the disgruntled stalwarts of Indian tennis. While I feel honoured and privileged to have been chosen to partner Leander Paes, the manner and timing of the announcement wreaks of male chauvinism where a two time Grand Slam champion, who has been India’s number 1 women’s tennis player for almost a decade in singles and doubles, is offered as compensation to partner one of the feuding champions purely in order to lure him into accepting to play with a men’s player he does not wish to play with.”

themselves in opposition to India’s powerful board. The Decision Review System (DRS), which uses ball tracking and thermal imaging to verify umpires’ decisions, was recommended for mandatory use by cricket chiefs Monday, subject to member nations financing the technology. But Sri Lankan captain Mahela Jayawardene said he wanted the International Cricket Council (ICC) to pay for the technology if individual boards, such as his own, cannot afford to fund it when they host touring teams.“The ICC must take it upon themselves to fund the system for the boards which cannot afford to, instead of leaving it to them to decide whether they use it or not,” said Jayawardene.“I have always been a fan of the DRS. It might not be 100 percent technology, but if we can use it to get the maximum number of correct decisions, it will help the umpires as well,” he said.

The Galle Test, which Sri Lanka won by 209 runs on Monday, was marred by at least 12 contentious decisions by umpires Steve Davis of

Australia and Ian Gould of England, with Pakistan suffering the most.DRS is not being used in the three-Test series, reportedly due to cost factors. The ICC’s executive board will consider a recommendation by its chief executives’ committee to make DRS mandatory at meetings in Kuala Lumpur over the next two days. The ICC had previously made DRS mandatory for all series, but changed its stance last year following objections from the influential board in India, which accounts for the lion’s share of global cricket revenues.Mohammad Hafeez, captaining Pakistan in Galle in the absence of Misbah ul-Haq, said the uncertainty about the video referral technology should end.“One thing I want to say is that it is time for the highest authorities to make a decision about the DRS,” said Hafeez. “It should be made compulsory

for every game.“I feel as a player, not having the DRS puts a lot of pressure on you and that pressure goes to the umpires. If this

technology can improve the game, then why not?“The authorities should either go for it, or not at all.”Pakistan coach Dav Whatmore had on Sunday slammed the selective implementation of the DRS, which Sri Lanka Cricket used in the previous home series against England but not in the ongoing one.“It does not seem right to me that you have it for one series and not for another,” said Whatmore, a former Sri Lankan World Cup winning coach.India’s cricket board said in a statement on Monday that its stance on the system remained “unchanged”, arguing that it was “not foolproof”.India cannot veto a decision by the full ICC board to make DRS compulsory. But it does enjoy outsized influence thanks to the money it has generated in the world game, in part owing to the Indian Premier League’s runaway success.

said: “Much of the game is controlled by the BCCI because it controls enough votes to block any proposal put forward at the ICC board meetings. “The reason for this is some countries would not survive without the financial opportunities India provides.” Greig, who called for the IPL to be expanded into an Asian league, backed former Australia captain Steve Waugh’s suggestion for players

to take lie detector tests in a bid to root out corruption from cricket.

MOVIE TALK

Teri Meri Kahaani ReviewA self-declared Yash Chopra fan, KunalKohli has had a remarkable career thus far. He didn’t have a great beginning with MUJHSE DOSTI KAROGE, but surprised one and all with his dexterity in films like HUM TUM and FANAA. THODA PYAAR THODA MAGIC couldn’t restructure the magic of HUM TUM, but all eyes are on his new outing TERI MERI KAHAANI. The question is, will he be able to strike a chord this time?Preceding its release, the tittle-tattle went on an overdrive asserting that TERI MERI KAHAANI bears a striking semblance to the 2005 Taiwanese film THREE TIMES, which featured three chronologically separate love stories. Both, the Hou Hsiao-Hsien directed project and Kunal’s film are positioned over three time frames where the hero and the heroine find love in different circumstances. While the Taiwanese film was set in 1911, 1966 and 2005, TERI MERI KAHAANI is set in 1910, 1960 and present-day U.K. But do the three stories connect with each other? Now that’s one question that shouldn’t be answered in a review. It may rob the film of its magnetism. I have watched both the films and let me enlighten you that both are dissimilar to each other. Perhaps, the idea of three love stories in three different eras may have germinated from the Taiwanese film, but that’s about it. The story and treatment of THREE TIMES is poles apart, while TERI MERI KAHAANI is the atypical love story that one is accustomed to watching. So, there. A happenstance in the subject matter doesn’t make it analogous or a blatant replication, does it? Can we truly love one person throughout our life and hope that fate makes us meet the same person in every life of ours? This story takes us through a journey of eternal love between a couple who have vowed to love each other not only in this life, but in every life to follow. Their love is so strong that even destiny wants to bring them together. The story starts in 1960 Bombay with Govind and Ruksar, then moves ahead to present times, 2012 England with Radha and Krish and then goes back in time to Punjab 1910 with Aradhana and Javed. Can Javed and Aradhana still be together? Will Ruksar realize that Govind’s feeling for her were genuine? Will Krish be able to clear the

misunderstandings? Independently and collectively, the three love stories divided in three different eras of TERI MERI KAHAANI do accomplish at portraying how our lives are influenced and even revolutionized by the times we live in. However, the film doesn’t thrive on all accounts, there are a few dull moments [the present-day story stagnates after a point and the pacing tends to get unhurried, thus making you fidgety and impatient at times], but buried in its experimental storytelling and innate performances is a heartwarming tale that’s gratifying and succeeds in planting a smile on your face. Especially the way Kunal concludes the three stories! On the brighter side, there are no preceding births, nobody expires or recalls meeting earlier. The viewer is well aware that Shahid and Priyanka have met before, but the characters are completely clueless about the past. Different eras are the crux of this motion picture. In fact, these eras take the account frontward. Each story tackles diverse times and societal principles and at least two stories -- the Poona and Punjab episodes -- keep you hooked [screenplay: Robin Bhatt and KunalKohli]. It’s actually very unusual to experience a story which progresses in this fashion. This is a setting where one gets to witness the inventiveness and resourcefulness of a director. Without doubt, TERI MERI KAHAANI gives Kunal this break.

A special mention of the production design [MuneeshSappel]. The sets created to depict the different eras is admirable. While recreating the pre-independence India must have been tough, Sappel has recreated the era of 1960s impeccably well. TERI MERI KAHAANI is, without doubt, one of the better albums by Sajid-Wajid. In fact, Sajid-Wajid and lyricist Prasoon Joshi make sure the soundtrack is extremely likeable, especially these tracks -- ‘Jabse Mere DilKoUff’, ‘Mukhtasar’, ‘Allah Jaane’ and ‘HumsePyaar Karle Tu’. Sunil Patel’s cinematography is top notch. Dialogue, penned by KunalKohli, are poetic and romantic. Not many actors get the opportunity to portray three diverse roles in a single movie. But Shahid carries each of those parts with refinement, besides looking debonair in each character. There is no quizzing his performing abilities either. He pulls the act with effortlessness and panache. As a matter of fact, whenever Shahid has attempted something diverse, the results have been luminous. From playing a musician in Bollywood to a compulsive flirt in Punjab to the unflustered and trendy youngster settled in U.K., Shahid does an exceptional job. Among the three characters, his take as Javed is sure to win him accolades. As the spirited Aradhana of 1910, the dazzling movie star Rukhsar of 1960 or the joyful

Radha of 2012, Priyanka is a complete livewire in each of the acts. On a personal level, I liked her the most as Aradhana, a full-on Punjabi girl who’s vivacious and bubbly. What also makes the film work is the chemistry the

two actors share. They appear exceptionally comfy with each other and bring to the table what the spectators are looking for. Prachi Desai is sparkling in a cameo. Neha Sharma is decent. VrajeshHirjee does well. Surendra Pal is okay. On the whole, TERI MERI KAHAANI is uncomplicated and charming. Not the usual romantic fare, this one presents three different stories in three

different eras without getting theatrical or melodramatic. Thanks to its innovative storytelling, it comes across as the perfect date movie, holding tremendous appeal for the Facebook Gen. TERI MERI KAHAANI is pleasurable and fascinating in equal measures!TERI MERI KAHAANI is now playing at Albion and Woodside Cinemas and show times can be found @ www.albioncinemas.com .

Rajini not to compete with Shah Rukh Khan

June 29 , 2012 (TORONTO) 15KOLLYWOOD www.starbuzz.ca

Jiiva is very handsome, says Pooja

Rajini’s film Kochadaiyaan will definitely not be hitting the screen this Diwali it appears. The reason for this is twofold. First of all, the makers want to make sure that Rajini’s comeback film after nearly two years is absolutely perfect since the expectations will be higher than ever before after Enthiran. Secondly, Shah Rukh Khan’s film with Katrina Kaif under Yash Chopra’s banner will be releasing for this Diwali about which Yash Chopra made an announcement long ago. Rajini and SRK are good buddies and Rajini even gave a guest appearance for Ra - One so they have an unspoken gentleman’s agreement not to compete with each other at the box office. Hence Kochadaiyaan’s release date has been postponed. But his Tamil fans are still hoping that perhaps the Tamil version

Pooja Hegde, who plays Jiiva’s female lead in Mugamoodi, seems to be head over heels in love over his looks for the movie. The Tamil superhero movie, directed by Mysskin, will have Jiiva playing a handsome lad and his character portrayal seems to have an effect on the movie’s heroine Pooja Hegde. Jiiva, who is usually seen in grubby roles, has undergone a transformation in terms of looks in Mugamoodi.“He looks very handsome in the movie and it was a great experience playing the lead opposite him,” she was quoted as telling a magazine. Mugamoodi is reaching completion and is expected to release in the month of August.

On reaching his plane seat a man is surprised to see a parrot strapped in next to him. He asks the stewardess for a coffee where upon the parrot squawks “And get me a whisky you cow!” The stewardess, flustered, brings back a whisky for the parrot and forgets the coffee. When this omission is pointed out to her the parrot drains its glass and bawls “And get me another whisky you idiot”. Quite upset, the girl comes back shaking with another whisky but still no coffee.Unaccustomed to such slackness the man tries the parrot’s approach “I’ve asked you twice for a coffee, go and get it now or I’ll kick you”.The next moment, both he and the parrot have been wrenched up and thrown out of the emergency exit by two burly stewards. Plunging downwards the parrot turns to him and says “For someone who can’t fly, you complain too much!”

At a recent software engineering management course in the US, the participants were given an awkward question to answer. “If you had just boarded an airliner and discovered that your team of programmers had been responsible for the flight control software how many of you would disembark immediately?”Among the ensuing forest of raised hands, only one man sat motionless. When asked what he would do, he replied that he would be quite content to stay onboard. With his team’s software, he said, the plane was unlikely to even taxi as far as the runway, let alone take off.

Q: Why does it take longer to

build a blonde snowman than a regular one?A: You have to hollow out the head.

A bird was flying south for Winter, but he had left it too late and was frozen solid in a storm. He dropped down into a pasture of cows. The biggest, fattest cow was doing a crap there, and the bird landed in it. At first he was disgusted, until he realised the poo was thawing him out!He started crying out for joy as the ice melted. A cat that was nearby heard the cries, walked over, saw the bird and ate itThere are three morals to this story:1. Not everyone who gets you into shit is your enemy2. Not everyone who gets you out of shit is your friend3. If you are in shit, keep your mouth shut

A rookie police officer was out for his first ride in a cruiser with an experienced partner. A call came in telling them to disperse some people who were loitering. The officers drove to the street and observed a small crowd standing on a corner. The rookie rolled down his window and said, “Let’s get off the corner people.” A few glances, but no one moved, so he barked again, “Let’s get off that corner... NOW!” Intimidated, the group of people began to leave, casting puzzled stares in his direction. Proud of his first official act, the young policeman turned to his partner and asked, “Well, how did I do?” Pretty good,” chuckled the vet, “especially since this is a bus stop.”

One of the best marksmen in the FBI was passing through a small town. Everywhere he saw evidences of the most amazing shooting. On trees, on walls,

and on fences there were numerous bull’s-eyes with the bullet hole in dead center. The FBI man asked one of the townsmen if he could meet the person responsible for this wonderful marksmanship. The man turned out to be the village idiot. “This is the best marksmanship I have ever seen,” said the FBI man. “How in the world do you do it?” “Nothing to it,” said the idiot. “I shoot first and draw the circles afterward.”

After she woke up, a woman told her husband, “I just dreamed that you gave me a pearl necklace for Valentine’s day. What do you think it means?” “You’ll know tonight,” he said. That evening, the man came home with a small package and gave it to his wife. Delighted, she opened it - to find a book entitled: “The Meaning of Dreams.”

A man is driving home late one night and is feeling very horny. As he is passing a pumpkin patch, his mind starts to wander. He thinks to himself, you know a pumpkin is soft and squishy inside, and there is no one around here for miles. He pulls over to the side of the road, picks out a nice juicy looking pumpkin, cuts the appropriate size hole in it, and begins to screw the pumpkin. After a while he is really into it, and doesn’t notice the police car pulling up. The cop walks over and says, “Excuse me sir, but do you realize that you are screwing a pumpkin?” The man looks at the cop in complete horror, thinks fast and says, “A pumpkin? Is it midnight already?”

at least will be released for Diwali.

LIFE STYLE & RECIPE

Eight Ways Goofing Off Can Make You More Productive

One of my colleagues used to head to the men’s room and brush his teeth every time he felt a surge of writer’s block. He swears it did the trick. Another exits the building and walks around the block to clear his head. I like to take advantage of the mid-day yoga sessions that Forbes offers in the gym on the ninth floor. When I return to my desk, my body is relaxed, my mind is clear, and I attack my work with new energy.A growing body of research suggests that the longer you keep your rear end in your chair and your eyes glued to your screen, the less productive you may be. Getting up from your desk and moving not only heightens your powers of concentration, it enhances your health.I offer this list of productive ways to goof off during

the day and evening. They will boost your productivity and sense of well being. But beware not to overdo any of them. Take too many breaks and you may enter the realm of procrastination. 1. Take a walk around the block.Fresh air combined with a change of scene can boost productivity.2. Take a nap. Some offices offer this as a perk. Closing your eyes for a 15-minute catnap can be hugely refreshing.3. Chat with a colleague.Even if you only make small talk, a fresh perspective on your day can help you get a new perspective on the task at hand.4. Run an errandLike walking around the block, getting out of the office and taking care of business can give your mind a break and the

exercise will get your blood flowing.5. Brush your teeth. The symbolism of removing decay and plaque can be especially potent when you are feeling sluggish.6. Spend ten minutes checking Facebook, Twitter or other social media sites. This is not as good for you as leaving your desk, but the mental distraction can offer a helpful break. Monitor your time however and don’t let yourself be distracted for more than five minutes.7. Go to the gymIf your company has an exercise facility, take advantage.8. Go out to lunchJudging from the habits of my colleagues, lunch out of the office is a dying American habit. But a healthy meal and good conversation can be nourishing on multiple levels.

Did Salman-Shah Rukh avoid each other? They haven’t come face-to-face since their infamous 2008 fight and have always managed to avoid bumping into each other at parties. This time too, the two warring Khans - Shah Rukh and Salman - have avoided a meeting at Esha Deol’s wedding. While Salman is shooting for Dabangg 2 in the city and will most likely be attending the wedding and reception, SRK is in London shooting for Yash Chopra’s next.Shah Rukh is expected to wrap up the shooting of Chopra’s film by the end of June. However, it looks like SRK won’t make it for Esha’s wedding as he has extended his London trip. While chatting with one-time co-star Juhi Chawla on a radio show in London on June 20, SRK revealed that the shoot would wrap up in about 10 days. “And then, I am here (in London) for another 10-15 days with Aryan, Suhana and Gauri,” he told Juhi.An industry insider adds, “Since the shooting schedule is ending just before the wedding reception on June 30, it would be difficult for SRK, whose entire family is in London with

him, to dash off immediately for the ceremony.”Esha’s mother, Hema Malini, is also not sure if SRK will be able to make it. “I am not aware if he is coming. As far as I know, he is shooting abroad, but I don’t know what his plans are,” says the yesteryear actor. Esha’s sangeet ceremony took

place on Monday and will be followed by the mehendi on Wednesday, with a traditional temple wedding on Friday. The Deols are believed to be planning an extravagant wedding reception at a suburban hotel the next day, and have invited all their friends and family.
