Star Wars – Return of the Jedi.

Opening Scene Analysis.

The size of the space ship is emphasised in this shot to show how powerful the ship must be.

Image of half built skull look-a-like to show that something is under construction to build something powerful.

This scene shows an established shot which is typical in films to show where about the film is set. But this one is unusual as the shot lasts for 27 seconds.

This shot also gives an enigma code for the audience making them think ‘What is it?’ or ‘Who’s is it?’.

This shot shows that the big ship is important and powerful to the film and it has been emphasised in this shot by showing a smaller ship flying into the mystery ‘skull’ shaped planet?

This shot shows clearly that the film is a Sci-Fi Film as the scene is shot from space.

Throughout the film, the director has had to use CGI (Computer Generated Imagery) to create the film to make it look like it has been shot from space because they obviously couldn’t shoot it from space.

Tilt shot to show that Darth Vadar is a powerful ‘man’ and is a villain in the film as you can tell through the colours of his outfit.

(Before Darth Vardar's entry) The uniform shows that he is potentially an important character to the film.

His face in this scene also shows freight or anxiety about the entry of Darth Vadar as though he has done something wrong.

As well as showing importance of the man in uniform, you can see in the background of the scene that his men are giving Darth Vadar a respectable entrance.

The costume of Darth Vadar shows that he is an intimidating character within the film, without hearing his voice.

The same camera angle has been used here showing the importance of the spaceship and the pressure in which them man is under and that everyone is watching over him and looking down on him.

Although you cannot hear it, in this scene the well known Star Wars sound track is brought in at a faster pace and louder compared to when Darth Vadar comes out the spaceship letting the audience know that this is a significant part of the film.
