How long will the exhibition be in Sydney?

The exhibition will open 16 November 2018 and will be open daily (closed 25 December 2018) until 10 June 2019.

What are the hours of the exhibition?

10am to 5pm (last entry 3.30pm).

How long does it take to see the exhibition? Can I visit the rest of the Powerhouse Museum?

The average visit to the exhibition is 90 minutes. Visitors also receive entry to the rest of the Powerhouse Museum during opening hours on the same day that the exhibition ticket is valid for.

Is there a restriction to how long I can spend in the exhibition?

From the time you enter the exhibition, you have until 5pm that day when the Museum closes.

When will I receive the smart technology bracelet and headset required for the exhibition?

Every visitor will receive their STAR WARS™ Identities smart technology bracelet, used to create your Star Wars hero, and headset upon entry to the exhibition. These must be returned at the end of the exhibition.

Is the exhibition suitable for children?

This is a great exhibition for all ages to enjoy but children aged 12 years and under need to be accompanied by an adult at all times. However, please be advised that clips from the films, including some with lightsaber duels and fragments of music, could frighten very young children. Concerned parents can refer to the Star Wars™ film classifications.

Can I take my pram or stroller into the exhibition?

While the Museum welcomes visitors of all ages, some exhibitions such as this one cannot accommodate strollers. We ask that carers make use of the stroller parking provided at the cloaking desk on level 3 of the Museum.

Is the exhibition wheelchair accessible?

This exhibition and the Powerhouse Museum is fully accessible, with ramps and accessible toilet facilities (please note that toilets are not located within the exhibition). Wheelchairs may be borrowed (subject to availability).

Is photography and/or filming permitted in the exhibition?

Yes. Visitors are welcome to take pictures and videos for personal use with their small, handheld devices. However, both flash photography and the use of a tripod are prohibited. Media photography (and any photography for professional use) is prohibited unless pre-authorised and accompanied by a member of the Museum’s Communications team.

Are food and drinks permitted in the exhibition?

No food or drinks are permitted inside the exhibition or anywhere else in the Museum. There are two cafés at the Powerhouse, located on level 3 (near the exit) and adjacent to the outdoor playground on level 1 for you to eat in during your visit.

Can I wear my Star Wars costume?

While visitors of all ages are welcome to wear Star Wars-themed costumes to the exhibition, helmets or masks cannot be worn into the Museum. No metal or oversized costumes can be worn either. Leave these elements at home or visit the Museum’s cloaking facilities on Level 3. If you’re unsure if your costume will be acceptable, please email info@maas.museum.

Can I bring my replica lightsaber or blaster into the exhibition?

No. Out of consideration for other visitors, all replica weapons and other props are forbidden inside the exhibition.

Will there be a shop selling exhibition merchandise?

Yes. The exhibition gift shop has a wide variety of Star Wars merchandise for sale, including exclusive STAR WARS Identities items so you can bring the exhibition home with you. Returns and exchanges for products purchased at the exhibition shop are to be done at point of purchase.

Ticketing

Where can I purchase tickets?

Tickets are available now online through ticketek.com.au, over the phone with Ticketek on 132 849 or in person at Ticketek outlets. Tickets may also be purchased in person at the Museum admissions desk from 16 November 2018.

I am a MAAS Member. How do I purchase tickets to the exhibition?

You can book members tickets, at exclusive member prices, online through ticketek.com.au, over the phone on 132 849 or in person at Ticketek outlets. Tickets may also be purchased in person at the Museum front desk with proof of membership from 16 November 2018. Members will need to show their Membership card on arrival.

When will tickets be on sale for sessions after 24 December 2018?

More sessions will come on sale as the exhibition draws closer. Make sure you're signed up to our Powerhouse Museum newsletter to be the first to know when more dates are released.

Why should I pre-book my ticket? Can I buy my ticket on the day?

We strongly recommend that you book your tickets in advance to avoid disappointment on sold out days, to avoid the queues, and to make sure that you are able to see the exhibition on the day that you would like. Tickets for the next available session can be purchased at the Museum.

Why do I need to purchase tickets for a specific day and time in advance?

Tickets are sold for timed entry in half-hourly periods. This allows us to manage the number of people in the exhibition at any given time to ensure all guests have a smooth experience. We recommend arriving at the Museum at least 15 minutes prior to your visit.

Do I need a ticket if my child is under 4 years old?

Children under 4 years old enter the exhibition free. No ticket is required.

Do Companion Card holders need to purchase a ticket?

Companion card holders receive free admission when accompanying a paying visitor with a disability. Companion card holders do not need to pre-book for the exhibition.

Can I enter and exit the exhibition more than once with my ticket?

No. Tickets are for one entry per person only. Used tickets will show as such in our system to prevent re-entry, so visitors should only purchase tickets only from official outlets (see above).

What if I need to exchange or cancel my tickets?

Tickets are non-refundable but can be exchanged for another day if you are unable to attend, subject to the availability of your preferred date – tickets cannot be exchanged if the date or time on the ticket has passed. To exchange the date or time of your ticket, please contact Ticketek on 1300 795 012 or visit the Powerhouse Museum Box Office prior to the date and time on your ticket.

Can I use my entertainment book voucher or other discount voucher for entry to the exhibition?

No, discount vouchers or general admission passes (including members’ guest passes) are not valid for use to enter this exhibition.

Are group or school bookings available?

Are gift vouchers available to purchase?

Yes, gift vouchers can be purchased here. Gift vouchers are untimed and can be used for the next available session during Museum hours (10am–5pm, last entry 3.30pm).

I am accompanying a vacation care or school group, is my entry free?

Teachers accompanying school groups receive complimentary entry in accordance with the following levels of supervision, which are recommended by the Museum (supervisor: students)

• 1:5 for years K-2 • 1:10 for years 3-6 • 1:20 for years 7-12

Teachers visiting with their friends or families (not on an excursion) will need to pay the adult rate for entry.

What to see and do in the exhibition

Who is the exhibition for?

This exhibition has something for everyone. From kids to grandparents, from fans to newbies, visitors of all ages can explore the exhibition.

Do I need to have seen any of the Star Wars movies to understand the exhibition?

No. STAR WARS Identities features clips from the first six Star Wars films to offer plenty of context for newcomers to the saga.

What treasures from the Lucasfilm archives will be on display in the exhibition?

200 original costumes, props, models, and pieces of artwork in STAR WARS Identities will take you behind-the scenes of the movie-making process. The collection on display spans the first six Star Wars movies as well as the ongoing television series Star Wars: The Clone Wars™.

There’s BB-8, R2-D2, Han Solo’s Millenium Falcon, and even an AT-AT. Other favourite characters and costumes like Yoda, Chewbacca, Boba Fett, Princess Leia, stormtroopers, and Darth Vader are also on display. As are many more treasures, including dozens of objects being exhibited for the first time.

How do I create my STAR WARS Identities hero in the exhibition?

Equipped with a smart technology bracelet (received upon entry to the exhibition), every visitor is invited to respond to a series of identity questions at interactive stations throughout the exhibition. These character-design stations are interwoven seamlessly with the exhibition’s collection and scientific content and form the backbone of the exhibition experience.

Each answer given along the identity quest is one step in the creation of a complete character profile. Visitors view the final result—their new and unique Star Wars character—for the first time at the end of the exhibition, and can request to receive a more detailed version of the character profile by email, which can then be consulted from home or shared using social media platforms.

How and when will I receive my STAR WARS Identities hero I create in the exhibition?

You’ll receive your STAR WARS Identities hero via email on the day of your visit, from a few minutes to a few hours after you enter your email address in the exhibition.

I never received my STAR WARS Identities hero via email. What can I do?

First, be sure to check the spam folder in your email inbox. If it’s not there, it’s possible that the email address you entered at the exhibition was incorrect. Unfortunately, since we do not store your data, it is impossible for us to retrieve it.

What is the scientific content of the exhibition?

STAR WARS Identities looks at the Star Wars films, and at what makes someone who they are, through the lens of the sciences of identity. This includes genetics, neuropsychology, health sciences, and psychology.

The exhibition explores the theme of identity using ten components that help make us who we are: species, genes, parents, culture, mentors, friends, events, occupation, personality, and values.

These ten components are grouped into the exhibition’s three main sections, which follow the progression of identity from childhood to adulthood: first Origins, then Influences, and finally Choices. This thematic backbone gives structure not only to the educational content of the exhibition but to the Star Wars collection as well.
