May 6, 2018 6th Sunday of Easter
In today’s Gospel, Jesus has chosen to love us no matter what, and He calls us His friends, not His slaves. “Love one another,” is Jesus’ farewell wish for and command to all of us. And if we love one another, we make Him happy. We make ourselves happy too. It is more for our own good if we remain in His love. In fact, if we follow His commandment of love, Jesus promised that His joy will be in us, and our joy will be complete. Often, we think we know what LOVE is, but in our Gospel today, Jesus reminds us what true love is: “No one has greater love than this; to lay down one’s life for one’s friends.” This weekend, Jesus once again offers this same love to our children who will receive His Most Sacred Body and Most Precious Blood for the first time in Holy Communion. Let us pray for these, our children, their parents, religion teachers and catechists.
Let us then pray so that we may be able to love just as Jesus loves us.
Let us keep on loving as Jesus did. Amen. From Fr. Steve
