Meeting of March 31, 2006 – One day before April Fool’s Day Suzanna Edwards-Carter smiled with the grace of an angel as the official greeter of the meeting. Meeting of March 31, 2006 – One day before April Fool’s Day Suzanna Edwards-Carter smiled with the grace of an angel as the official greeter of the meeting. Before her morning was done she would carry the money pot, collect fines for the sheriff and most importantly, make sure the plates were shined for breakfast.

With the precision of an atomic clock, President Peter opened the meeting with O Canada, guests were intro-duced, we had a great breakfast and the “stuff” began. On April 20th the District Conference is being held and he encouraged us

to participate. Then the good news, we host the District Con-ference one year from now in

fun-filled Red Deer.

The Speaker!

Our speaker was gi-gantic! Marion Barrett, a five-foot dynamo who captured all of us in her presentation as a mem-ber of our Club. Marion was born and raised in Calgary, and has been married for 41 years. Her dad had been a Rotarian and her mother of 80 still plays bridge with all of her

aging friends. This classification talk was a wonder and we are so fortunate to have her a member. Marion spent much of her work life in the Oil and Gas Management business and 11 years ago moved to medi-cal clinic management. She manages five clinics with a staff of 45 and looks after the needs of 22 doctors. She be-lieves that management is coaching and teamwork.

The President then told us of a project we should sup-port that fell into the world category of 3H. Health-Hunger-Humanity. It was proposed we raise $3,000 as part of a $250,000 pro-ject in India. District 5360 has pledged $5,000 and we would work with the Ro-tary Club of New Delhi South in India. A motion was taken, seconded and approved to support the project.

For some reason we talked about armour piercing golf balls. President Peter gave us background on this earth shaking new ball that travels 60 yards farther than any ball known to man. What joy! We were reminded that Daylight Sav-

ings Time is imminent and we should set our clocks

back …er…forward.

She mentioned the medical clinic at Bowness that be-cause of recent events might be a ‘high risk’ clinic. When a stabbed person showed up at the clinic and the staff phoned police, it became apparent there was no proto-col to deal with such issues. The staff was ordered out of the building until po-lice arrived. The injured person left in-side. Marion spoke to the issues of medicine in our City: “We have an abundance of cli-ents and a shortage of doctors.” With muted comment, she said the Third Way is already here, but then stifled herself from further comment.

Marion is obviously a “doer”. She is on the advisory boards of Bow Valley College

and SAIT. She said “the public sees health as a right and not a privilege”. She then told us she believes in crystal balls. For the second time that morning a dis-cussion of balls. Beyond her work frame she is part of the Calgary Stampede Promotions Committee, loves to play bridge, has returned to playing piano and is a hooker! Wait a minute; she presented a

beautiful area piece that is filled with flowers of coloured wool. That, she told us, is hooking. Sure! It was a delightful presentation. She was thanked and Peter dismissed us with grace, reminding us the next meeting is at Rancher’s Hall. Then Peter left to find armour-piecing balls. IA wonderful time was had by all the members present of the Heritage Park Rotary Club, the Dis-tricts leading Club!

The Sunshine Bucks came up with special men-tion of Barry Jarvis. Someone wondered where Helen Buchanan was. She is preparing to have her first child in June.

SUNSHINE REPORT

Sheriff David McKeown was savage in his law and order whacking of members for reasons too numerous to think of. Jim Hennessey got whacked because of his golf!

Happy Bucks featured Dennis Tillotson having his first grandchild, Bill Hope and his joy of skiing, and Jim Hennessey on Curling.

Two tickets were offered for Vertigo Thea-tre on April 24. The scramble was incredi-ble. Suzanna was picked for the 50/50 draw and didn’t make it!

This week’s lucky number was held by Zuzana Edward Carter. However, after reciting the 4 way test perfectly, Zuzana was unable to pull the JOKER away from Wynn. The pot continues to build.
