IntroductionTownscape offer a full range of stainless steel products tocomplement their wide range of street furniture designs alreadymanufactured in a choice of raw materials including steel, castiron, precast concrete, timber, aluminium and polymers.Stainless steel is currently a popular material for exterior andinterior furniture as it is clean and elegant with high vandal andcorrosion resistant properties but with minimal maintenancerequirements.

All of the perforated seating ranges - Voltan, Metro andMillennium - are offered in stainless steel as well as bollards,litter bins, planters, cycle racks, barriers, handrails and roadstuds. Generally Grade 304 or 316 is used in manufacturedepending on the level of corrosion resistance required.The following pages illustrates a selection of products availablein stainless steel however the development of new products iscontinuous. It is also possible to quote for new designs andspecial projects.

B O L L A R D S

There is a choice of tube size diameters and cap detailsincluding flat, dome, radius or 45 degree cut caps. SeePage 9.

Townscape generally supply bollards in austenitic stainless steelgrade 304 as it is suitable for a wide range of site applications.The surface finish is 320 grit satin polish.

Twelve standard tube sizes are offered starting at 42 mm throughto 254 mm with two overall length options of 1000 or1300 mm. In addition four sizes of square section bollards areavailable with either a flat or 45 degree angle top.

The photographs (left) show the Commander bollard usedalone and then used as a barrier by the addition of stainlesssteel rails between the bollards.

The two overall length options allow variable in ground andabove ground lengths to be determined by the customer.Alternatively the bollards can be modified to on-ground fixingto special order. It is possible to provide a removable bollardby the standard means of a socket which can be produced instainless steel however Townscape has recently developed anew system for making a bollard removable. Normally thisprocedure leaves a hole in the ground or requires a plate to beplaced over such a hole to form a cover. This new concept theBlochole as illustrated below eliminates the danger of an openhole and also prevents a void from filling with dirt and debris.

Stainless steel road studs are becoming increasingly popular forboth functional and decorative purposes. Four standard sizesare offered at 115, 125, 145 and 155 mm diameter withthe option of screw or drive fixing. Also available are 100mmsquare studs peaked at the centre.

SEATS

The Townscape stainless steel seating range offers stainless steelcomponents partnered with polyester powder coated mild steelparts adding a distinctive style element together with functionalresistance. The entire unit can be supplied in stainless steel butthis will of course reflect in the selling price.

A further advantage of the seat frame and legs being in mildsteel is that these parts can be polyester powder coated in acontrasting colour, or if a contrast is not intended, the stainlesssteel seat body will blend perfectly well with a plain greypowder coating on the leg support pedestals. It is also worthnoting that a coloured pedestal will hide any unsightly stainingon the legs of the seat. If a contrasting colour is chosen, this canalso be applied to the mild steel component parts of litter binsand planters to ensure that all the products on the scheme areco-ordinated as shown in the photographs opposite.

The stainless steel seat bodies can be mounted on concretesupports as an alternative to the steel support pedestals. Thephotograph opposite shows a Voltan Trio mounted onconcrete supports and also the addition of armrests. TheTownscape perforated ranges are extremely versatile.The stainless plate used in the construction conforms to thespecification for grade 316 BS 1449 Part 2. This is anaustenitic steel, non magnetic, has a high tensile strength andoffers the best corrosion resistance. A 240 grit or satin finish isstandard.

The Splitz Seat comprises the Voltan Mainline seat body on astylish streamlined underframe. The sculpturally arched supportframes are bolted to the underframe of the seat body by secu-rity fixings, the underframe being available in mild or stainlesssteel. A bench is also offered.

The Bridge Bench combines a Voltan bench unit fixed toconcrete or polymer end supports. Each support also has theoption of a stainless steel decorative strip.

LITTER BINS & PLANTERS

The perforated ranges of litter bins, Voltan, Metro and Millennium, are offered in stainless steel aswell as mild steel. The stainless steel components are partnered with polyester powder coated mildsteel adding a distinctive style element. The stainless steel plate use in the construction conforms tothe specification for grade 316 BS 1449 Part 2. This is an austenitic steel, non magnetic, has a hightensile strength and offers the best corrosion resistance. A 240 grit or satin finish is standard.Top accessories are also available in stainless steel including hinged lids, gravity feed and ashtrays.

If a solid rather than perforated design of litter bin body is preferred, both the Saxo and Bin 2000can be produced in stainless steel.For full details of the litter bins, please refer to the Planters and Litter Bins brochure and thePerforated Products brochure.

Bin 2000 Voltan SaxoBridge

Voltan Circular, Square and Rectangular planters complete the package of perforated stainless steelproducts. It is also possible to produce these units with solid sides rather than perforated if required.In order to co-ordinate with the litter bins, the circular planter has a mild steel top rim and the squareor rectangular units have mild steel corner posts which are polyester powder coated.

The Wedge planter is an unusual and modern shape planter which has a good depth for plantinglarger shrubs.

BARRIERS

The Commander bollard is used hereas a barrier panel to protect dinersseated at a pavement café frompassing traffic. The panels are madeup of stainless steel ‘rope’ to createa visually pleasing effect. Thisdesign was produced to specific siterequirements and many other designsare possible from intricate patterns toa simple post and rail.

A provision for safe parking of cyclesis essential in all urban areas and thisstainless steel cycle rack offers astylish solution. The frame and wheelof the cycle can easily be secured tothe centre rails of the unit by meansof a chain and padlock. The rackscan be manufactured to any lengthand are generally in ground fixalthough they can be fitted with baseplates to allow on ground fixing ifpreferred.

A standard range of 18 RAL colours is available as illustrated here, black and white are also offered as standard colours. OtherRAL colours can be supplied subject to special quotation.

It should be noted that all manmade or natural materials will lose some of their original qualities over a period of time due to theeffects of exposure to the sun or ultra-violet rays (UV). The pigment and paint system researched and developed by Townscapeare to the highest specification and will give exceptional retention of original colour for many years. The resins are UV stable andthe pigments are UV fast. Typical results for intensive testing show the white paint to satisfy a 3 year Florida test with no creamingor chalking.

The limitations of printing mean that theexact shades cannot be reproduced,customers are advised to ask for anactual sample finish prior to ordering.
