June 2011 Dear Colleague: Re: 2006 ‐ 2010 UCLA Workforce Demographics Data Summary The following is a comparative workforce data summary, with demographic tables and graphs, for the period October 31, 2006, to October 31, 2010. The data contained in this report is a compilation of UCLA campus, and UCLA Health System career staff employees. The data summary describes the gender/ethnic distribution of the UCLA career workforce in total, and by each personnel program. Previously, unknown gender and ethnic information has not been included in the summary. The UCLA workforce experienced the following demographic changes during the five‐year period: Campuswide There has been an overall increase in the campuswide representation of Minorities. Minority representation increased by 0.3%, from 62.1% to 62.4%. There was an increase in the percentage of Hispanic representation and Asian representation in the workforce. Hispanic representation increased by 1.5%, from 23.3% to 24.8%. Asian representation increased by 0.3%, from 23.5% to 23.8%. There has been an overall decrease in the percentage of Black representation in the workforce. Black representation decreased by 1.4%, from 14.8% to 13.4%. Percentage of American Indian representation remained the same at 0.4%. The percentage of White representation decreased in the workforce by 3.0%, from 37.9% to 34.9%. There has been a moderate change in the percentage of Male/Female representation. Female representation decreased by 0.6%, from 64.7% to 64.1%. Male representation increased by .6%, from 35.3% to 35.9%. Personnel Program Senior Management Group (SMG) Female representation in SMG increased by 8.1%, from 35.9% to 44%. Minority representation in SMG decreased by 1.0%, from 12.8% to 11.8%:
Black representation increased by 5.4%, from 2.6% to 8.0% Hispanic representation increased by 5.4%, from 2.6% to 8.0% Asian representation decreased by 7.7%, from 7.7% to 0% There is no American Indian representation
Management and Senior Professionals (MSP) Female representation in MSP decreased slightly by 0.2%, from 54.4% to 54.2%. Minority representation in MSP increased by 4.9%, from 31.0% to 35.9%:
Asian representation increased by 2.9%, from 17.9% to 20.8% Hispanic representation increased 2.3%, from 5.9% to 8.2% American Indian representation increased by 0.1%, from 0.6% to 0.7% Black representation decreased by 0.4%, from 6.6% to 6.2%
Professional and Support Staff Program (PSS) Female representation in PSS decreased slightly by 0.5%, from 65.5% to 65.0%. Minority representation in PSS increased by 0.2%, from 64.5% to 64.7%:
Hispanic representation increased by 1.5%, from 24.7% to 26.2% Asian representation increased by 0.1%, from 24.0% to 24.1% Black representation decreased by 1.4%, from 15.4% to 14% American Indian representation remained the same at 0.4%
UC Systemwide/UCLA Comparison as of October 31, 2009 UCLA has a greater percentage of minority representation (16.1% higher) than the UC system as a whole. Minority representation at UCLA is 62.4%; UC Systemwide representation is 46.3%.
Black representation is 6.7% higher (UC 6.7% vs. UCLA 13.4%) Hispanic representation is 8.4% higher (UC 16.4% vs. UCLA 24.8%) Asian representation is 1.2% higher (UC 22.6% vs. UCLA 23.8%) American Indian representation is 0.2% lower (UC 0.6% vs. UCLA 0.4%)
Minority representation at UCLA exceeds UC Systemwide Minority representation in all personnel programs, except for SMG.
SMG representation is 1.6% lower (UCLA 16.0% vs. UC 17.6%) MSP representation is 9.9% higher (UCLA 35.9% vs. UC 26%) PSS representation is 16.2% higher (UCLA 64.7% vs. UC 48.5%)
Female representation at UCLA is slightly lower (0.7%) than Female representation in the UC system. Female representation at UCLA is 64.1%; UC Systemwide representation is 64.8%. Females have a higher representation at UCLA than UC Systemwide in all personnel programs, except for PSS.
SMG representation is 9.3% higher (UCLA 44.0% vs. UC 34.7%) MSP representation is 1.9% higher (UCLA 54.2% vs. UC 52.3%) PSS representation is 1.1% lower (UCLA 65.0% vs. UC 66.1%)
