Thank You from Glenmary Home Missioners Father Bruce Brylinski of the Glenmary Home Missioners ex-tends his thanks to the parish family of Ss. Peter and Paul who generously contributed to the home missions. Father Bruce as-sures us of his prayers and requests that we pray for Glenmary, all those served by Glenmary in the home missions, and for an increase in vocations to missionary priesthood and brotherhood. About $3,000 was donated. You can still make a contribution. It has also been decided that any items left over from our Free

Yard sale in October will be delivered to one of the Glenmary

locations for distribution to those in need.

Women’s Day…was a huge success thanks to all those who helped and participated. It is a unique event for our area…focused on our life in Christ within our home, parish and world. Thank you to the many who worked many months in planning, set-up team, hospitality and importantly the cleanup and takedown crews. The presenter did a great job in inspiring everyone with very concrete and practical ways of ‘evangelizing’ in a missionary spirit right at home and parish. So many commented to me about the beauty of our church and new gathering area which lent itself to a very peaceful and spiritually re-laxed day of being with the Lord and one anoth-er. The comments kept coming about how won-derful a day it really was…spiritually and every other way. Many wanted a day like this in their own parish and wondered how to bring it about…I told them that it was a lot of work but worth it! Thank you Rhonda & Team for all you have done and offered to the women of our parish and area. Welcome to our new families…took place at the 10:30 Sunday Mass. It is such a joy to meet and welcome all those who have come to our parish seeking a new spiritual home. It can sometimes be a challenge to step into a new place and not find welcoming and friendly people to introduce them into the life of a parish family. Thank you to Maggie and all who helped. Wel-come again to all our new members and help us make others welcome as well. We are used to questions being raised by news commentators looking for the truth about events or persons that might be news wor-thy. There are usually a number of sides to any issue or person and many times conflicting views and opinions. Jesus poses two questions to his disciples in last Sunday’s Gospel. He is seeking their understanding and the level of their faith in and about His true identity and therefore His mis-sion. The disciples give Him stock answers from the crowds and then they must answer them-selves…and Peter speaks up. He makes a pro-found act of faith and Jesus affirms that it was a revelation from His Father given to Peter. Jesus then entrusts great responsibility to Peter and the others. They will be responsible for opening up

the Kingdom of Heaven for others…that is what is symbolized by the keys. We might ask how we are doing in opening the mystery of God, Christ, Heaven and Eternal Life to others…even those within our own homes. The faith we have received was a gift from the Lord. However, like a new bankcard, it has to be activated by the recipient before it is effective. The faith of the disciples had to grow and deepen through the whole mystery of Christ’s Passion, Death, Resurrection and Ascension…and the gift of the Holy Spirit before they were ready to fulfill their mission in witnessing their faith. Jesus had cautioned them not to reveal His true identity until after they had experienced it in the mystery of His suffering on the cross. Our faith needs to grow just as the early dis-ciples faith needed to grow ever deeper and more personal so that we can also share it with others. We can appreciate as friends and spouses grow closer, they are much more willing to make sacrifices and even more for one anoth-er. It is love that is the motivation…giving of one-self for the other. Jesus made that kind of com-mitment to His disciples and invites them to do the same…the power to do that can only come through the gift of His love to them. Each time we make the sign of the cross we are reminded who we are…disciples of the Lord Je-sus…and His love for us. It calls us to recommit to living that kind of selfless dedication and com-mitment. Peter argued with Jesus about the idea of His suffering being a part of His being the messiah. Jesus had to correct that false notion and even told Peter that he was becoming an ad-versary (a Satan) trying to dissuade Him from His mission. Perhaps we at times do the same for others or ourselves by discouraging them from their full and free gift of self in love to God. It is time for us to commit fully to being a disciple,

growing in faith and every other way as a disci-

ple, and sincerely sharing our faith in order to

make disciples. We know the commission Jesus

gave to the Church and to us… ‘Go and make

disciples of all the nations.’ It still holds true for us

today.

Parish School of Religion (PSR) Begins September 6

The first night of class and registration for our Parish School of Religion (PSR) will be Wednesday, September 6. Registration begins at 5:30 pm in the Church Gathering space. Class will begin with opening prayer at 6:30 pm in the Gathering Space . Parents are encouraged to join their children for the opening prayers, introduction of new catechists and welcoming of students. After this, the children will leave with their catechist for class in the school which lasts until 7:45 pm. Welcome New Members!

The parish welcomed its new members at a special Welcome Luncheon on August 27. Although all could not attend, those who did enjoyed food and camaraderie with Father John, Deacon Jimmy and parish ministry leaders.

More than 170 women attended the Women’s Day Retreat on

August 26 at our parish. Speaker Elizabeth Ficocelli spoke

about Catholic miracles including Eucharistic miracles, stig-

matas, incorrupt bodies, apparitions and weeping artwork.

She emphasized that these miracles are inviting us to grow

our faith and our personal relationship with Jesus. The event

included Benediction, a “living” rosary enacted by our school

students and the opportunity to receive the Sacrament of Rec-

onciliation and view many relics. Special thanks to event or-

ganizer Rhonda Phetsadasack and her team for a moving
