APPLICATION FORM - BACHELOR OF SCIENCE PART 1
PROSPECTUS
St. Xavier's College, Ranchi is a Minority Education Institution, established and administered by the Jesuit Fathers
since 1944 to provide opportunity, to Catholic young men and women, for Higher Education in a Christian
atmosphere.
A secondary objective of this college is to provide Under Graduate and Post Graduate Courses of Study to other
deserving students, particularly those who come from educationally underprivileged group (Scheduled Tribe &
Scheduled Caste). The College is registered by the Ranchi Jesuit Province under the local title "Xavier's Ranchi"
under the Societies Registration Act XXI of 1860.
HOSTEL
• Hostel accommodation in St. Xavier's College, Ranchi is limited to boys of socially and economically
underprivileged class of the society.
• Application Forms for Hostel are available with the Hostel Superintendent.
DEGREE HONOURS COURSES UNDER AUTONOMOUS SYSTEM
1. The College offers a three-years B.Sc. Honours Course comprising of six semesters.
2. Eligibility: For admission into Honours Course, in any subject, only those students will be eligible who
have obtained not less than 50% marks in the INTERMEDIATE / ICSE / CBSE / +2 examination in the
subject concerned as well as in the aggregate.
3. The selection of the candidates for admission in different Honours courses will be done on the basis of
percentage of marks obtained by the applicant in INTERMEDIATE / ICSE / CBSE +2 examinations; in
the subject in which the applicant is seeking Honours.
4. Students seeking admission in Physics Honours course must have studied Mathematics up to +2
level and merit list for them will be prepared on the basis of percentage of marks obtained in
Physics (minimum 50%) as well as that in Mathematics in +2 level examinations.
5. Even if an applicant have not studied Geology at +2 level, he/she can apply for Geology Honours
Course, provided percentage of marks obtained INTERMEDIATE / ICSE / CBSE +2 examinations in
aggregate is not less than 50%.
6. Candidates applying for Botany/Zoology Honours must have studied Biology up to Intermediate/ +2
level.
7. Candidates applying for Mathematics Honours must have studied Mathematics up to + Intermediate/ +2
level.
8. There shall be Mid-Sem & End-Sem examinations in each semester. There is internal assessment as well.

*A student of any Honours Course shall have to pursue Two subsidiary subjects up to Semester IV.
10. The applicant shall choose either (a) or (b) for Language paper:
a. R.B. Hindi: one full paper of 100 marks for each of the Semester I to Semester IV Examination.
b. Non -Hindi: Hindi (50 marks) and Alternative English (50 marks) for each of the Semester I to
Semester IV Examination.
c. Environmental Studies for Semester V & VI Examination only.
11. An applicant for the B.Sc. (Honours) course shall choose one Honours subject and two subsidiary
subjects from the following. However:
(a) Students of Mathematics (Hons) cannot opt for Zoology or Botany as subsidiary subjects.
(b) Students of Zoology (Hons) and Botany (Hons) cannot opt for Mathematics as subsidiary
subject.
(c) Students of Physics (Hons) have to study Mathematics as one of the subsidiary subjects.
Only two hundred seats are available in each subsidiary subject. Hence one may not get
the desired subsidiary subject as the selection will be done on merit basis.

Note: For Vocational Honours courses a separate application form has to be filled.
Those who are opting for computer as subsidiary have to pay an extra fee prescribed in the
fee - structure.
ADMISSION PROCESS
A. CERTIFICATE REQUIRED
Eligible men and women who wish to be admitted to the above mentioned courses must fill and submit
an online application form as early as possible after the publication of the results of the Intermediate /
ICSE /CBSE + 2 Examinations.
A hard copy of the application form, submitted online, and following original certificates along with duly attested Xerox copies of these originals, must be furnished by the candidates for the purpose of
verification at the time of counseling.

o Admit Card (Class XII)
o Character Certificate (CBSE/ICSE)
o Caste & Income Certificates (ST, SC & Backward Class-Annex I)
o A certificate of undertaking from parents stating that their ward will not indulge in any ragging
activity.
The originals of the above and School Leaving Certificate, Migration Certificate and
Medical Certificate of fitness from an approved medical practitioner with four copies of (3
x 3 cm) recent colour photograph must be submitted at the time of admission.
