This week we welcome the Totus Tuus team that
will be leading our summer program for children
from grades 1 to 12. You will have a chance to
meet the team at Masses this weekend. If your
child has not signed up, you can do so after all
Masses this weekend.
We also celebrate our parish solemnity this
week. The Feast Day of St. Thomas is
Wednesday, July 3. We will have our regular
morning Masses at 7 and 8 am, as well as a
Totus Tuus Mass at 11:15 am. You are welcome
at any of these Masses. Let us honor our patron
on this special day. Mass on the Fourth of July
will be celebrated at 9 am only.
We look forward to all the exciting news about
the Cause of Fulton Sheen. We are now
waiting for the recognition by Pope Francis of
the miracle attributed to the Venerable Servant
of God. If you want to stay up to date about
the progress toward his Beatification, I
encourage you to subscribe to the Catholic
Post. Our Diocesan newspaper will be the best
informed and most reliable source you will find
about the details around any upcoming
Beatification ceremony. You can subscribe
online at thecatholicpost.com/subscribe.
Finally, I have been asked to teach a summer
course at Catholic University of America in
Washington D.C. The School of Canon Law has
asked me to cover Teaching Office, which is a
part of the Code that deals with Church
teachings, papal infallibility, preaching,
Catholic education and schools, catechists,
books and publishing. This is an abbreviated
course taught on a short timeline, so I will only
be gone for the last three weeks of July. Pray
for me. You will be in good hands with Fr. Stark.

Dear Brothers and Sisters in Christ:
Participation in the Peter’s Pence Collection
gives us an opportunity be a witness of charity
to our brothers and sisters around the world.
Gifts to this annual collection help our Holy
Father, Pope Francis, to support victims of war
and natural disasters and others most in need
of assistance.
The Peter’s Pence Collection unites us in
solidarity with the Holy Father and his works of
charity toward those who are suffering around
the world. Pope Francis reminds us that true
power lies not in amassing possessions and
resources for ourselves but in giving. “We must
never forget that true power, at any level, is
service, whose bright summit is upon the Cross .
. .it means entering the logic of Jesus who
kneels to wash the Apostles’ feet,” he said. Your
contributions to the Peter’s Pence Collection
join with the power of Christ to give support to
those in need.
Join Pope Francis and be a witness of charity
throughout the world. You can participate
through your donations, prayers, and outreach
to spread the message of the love of Christ.
Please be generous in the Peter’s Pence
Collection.
Sincerely yours in Christ,
Most Reverend Daniel R. Jenky, C.S.C.
BISHOP OF PEORIA
God, give us the grace to soften our hearts toward the poor
and to consider that in helping them we do justice and not
mercy.
St. Vincent de Paul, a French priest in the 1600s, spent his life preaching
missions and providing relief to the poor, sick, and imprisoned. St. Vincent
helped reform the clergy and their preparation for the priesthood so they
would have compassion for the poor, hoping they would inspire all
Christians to help the poor. His work became his passion.
As my St. Thomas 3rd grade CCD students can tell you, God created us to
perform a very special duty; to care for His creation, most specifically,
each other. Every person deserves to have basic needs met: food and
water, shelter, clothing, a fair and living wage, medical care, and
education. Unfortunately, not everyone has the means or ability to
provide these things for themselves or their families. For those who struggle
every month to make ends meet, one small stroke of bad luck can topple
their delicate balance, and create a chasm difficult, if not impossible, to
escape.
Members of the St. Vincent de Paul Society seek God through helping the
poor. As we talk to clients about their needs, we work to help them as if
we see the face of Christ before us. We not only help relieve the client’s
current financial stress, we also counsel them to help them help
themselves out of a cycle of generational poverty, hoping to jumpstart
generations of self-sustaining families.
As St. Vincent de Paul said, It is our duty to prefer the service of the poor
to everything else. If a needy person requires medicines or other help…,
do whatever has to be done with peace of mind. Offer the deed to God
as your prayer.
Ways you can help:
Donate to the St. Vincent de Paul collections after Masses on the first
weekend of every month. No donation is too small, and every
donation is gratefully received.
Donate to our parish food pantry by leaving food and/or personal
hygiene items in the collection box in the Church Narthex.
Volunteer in the Food Pantry and/or join the St. Vincent de Paul
Society at St. Thomas.
Pray that God will grant our St. Vincent de Paul Society members the
strength, wisdom, and means to continue helping the poor.
St. Thomas Food Pantry The Food Pantry is open on Mondays and Thursdays from 9:00 to 11:00
a.m. in the Old Gym at Lake and Monroe. We are closed on Holidays.
We can always use thefollowing items. Thank you for your donations.
