The Rosary, Theology and Ministry

Every Pope in the contem-porary era has encouraged and urged the faithful to pray the Rosary. Not only is

it a mental and vocal prayer, it is also con-templative in nature that invokes God's blessings on the church and on its people. Biblically inspired, the Rosary meditates on the salvific mysteries of Christ in union with Mary, who was so closely associated with her Son in his mission. Although the Rosary enumerates the pas-sion, death, resurrection and glory of Jesus Christ, it honors and meditates on Mary too. Just like the Liturgical Year, high-lights, "Because of the mission she received from God, her life is most closely linked with the mysteries of Jesus Christ, and there is no one who has followed in the footsteps of the Incarnate Word more closely and with more merit than she” (Mediator Dei). Meditation on the cycles of Joyful, Sorrowful, Glorious and Luminous Mysteries makes the Rosary not only a 'Yama prarthana' or summary of the Gospel and Christian life but also a com-pendium of the Liturgical Year. The Ro-sary beads play the role of a teacher and nurturer of Christian faith, of morality and spiritual perfection thereby

Season of Elijah -Cross - Moses

Bag less Prayer By Mathews Irimpan

Prayer is a conversation with God. Do we find a friend in God? Is God too far

from our circle of friends? Friendships foster an intimate relationship. How fulfilling would it be to have God as our personal friend? Once I was watching two 10 year olds play. While discussing many things, one said “Shall we climb on that tree branch?” The other said, “Why don’t we play in the play structure? My mom won’t like me on the tree.” There they go, running, and shouting, ex-tremely happy. What an intimate friendship! They don’t have any hidden agenda and easily adjust to each other’s needs. Are we the same with God? Don’t we always carry a bag filled with our worries, problems, and con-cerns; expecting favorable answers? If not, do we carry an empty bag ready to load all the blessings from God? Why can’t we have a personal relationship with God? Is it our selfishness, our character, or our worldly worries? God is our best friend; our “bag less prayers” will bring us closer to God.

Pastor’s Corner (contd.)

fostering faith, hope and charity, all to the end of making us more like Christ.

My dear friends, the Word of God has the power to touch the lives of ordinary people through solid pie-ty, authentic devotion and attentiveness to the living Word that is not locked in a remote past, enchained by scientific methods, or presented in linguistic strangleholds, or covered with archaeological incon-sistencies. While the biblical stories we read and contemplate come from the past, their message is contemporary. The rosary helps us to pursue this path of holiness.

Pope Benedict XVI prayed the rosary and said: “May Mary help us to welcome within ourselves the grace emanating from these mysteries, so that through us we can “water” society, beginning with our daily relationships, and purifying them from so many negative forces, thus opening them to the newness of God. The Rosary, when it is prayed in an authentic way, not mechanical and superficial but profoundly, it brings, in fact, peace and reconcilia-tion. It contains within itself the healing power of the Most Holy Name of Jesus, invoked with faith and love at the center of each ‘Hail Mary’.”

As I pray the Rosary each day, I remember each one of you and our St Thomas Syro- Malabar Church with deep gratitude, affection and joy!

Syro-Malabar Liturgical Calendar

The Family Apostolate of our parish held the Zion Meet2015 on September 12, 2015 at our church to honor our seniors members and visiting parents. The event started with a Holy Qurbana at 5 pm in our church. During the homily, Mathews Achan said,” I see the faces of my parents when I look at you.” Af-ter the Qurbana, we had a round table discussion when the participants introduced themselves and shared their stories. Mathews Achan and Saju Joseph together moderated the discussion. Afterwards, we

served them good home-style dinner prepared by Sinoy Joseph, in the school hall. Achan presented each one with a gift from the church. "It was a wonderful and well organized event. We are touched by the dedication of all the volunteers and Achan who made this event possible. It was quite an innovative approach to bringing the seniors together and we hope to see this meet happen regu-larly going forward," said Jose P Thomas (father of Marian Vineeth), who attended the meet.
