The great emphasis is on Jesus Christ as the Good Shepherd. Jesus as the Good Shepherd is a powerful image. The Good Shepherd leads the sheep in total dedication to their safety and protection. The Gospel of John emphasizes the sheeps response to the care of the Good Shepherd. They are to follow him and not be led astray by strangers who enter the sheepfold deceitfully to steal and destroy. We also have a reference to sheep in the 2nd reading. The author tells the early Christians and us, you have gone astray like sheep but now you have returned to the Shepherd and Guardian of your soul.Returning to the Shepherd means being willing to suffer insults, persecution, even death, following the Shepherds example.

St. Theresa Catholic Church Fourth Sunday of Easter

May 7, 2017 On the Road

To Emmaus Another weekend, another Sunday. The great emphasis is on Jesus Christ as the Good Shepherd. Jesus as the Good Shepherd is a powerful image. The Good Shepherd leads the sheep in total dedication to their safety and protection. He lays down his life for his sheep. He sees that they are nourished and kept safe. As the sheep are guided and guarded by the Good Shepherd, they are to live in gratitude, listening always to the voice of the Shepherd and following his direction. They are to follow him and not be led astray by strangers who enter the sheepfold deceitfully to steal and destroy. We also have a reference to sheep in the 2nd reading.
