It is a period of preparation. While we prepare ourselves spiritually, we join with so many others in the worldly preparation for Christmas. We hang up lights, hang up decorations. At times, we want to brighten things up. The nights are longer, so we follow the light. It is a sign of hope in the darkness. Hope is something everyone needs to live. The hope for the upcoming new season helps us to make the winter season more manageable. The Light is coming and will brighten up the world. The more we anticipate the Light, hopefully encourages to prepare ourselves and others. Each year we get older, but hopefully we will never lose the joy or the anticipation of the Advent Season. Hopefully, we rediscover the inner child in ourselves & share the joy and love. Advent is a time set aside to remind us of hope and the need to prepare. Let us make use of this time- to shine in darkness and be hope to others. December 4, 2016 Second Sunday of Advent

The Shoes of the Fisherman Excellent and very interesting story of a Russian priest, Kiril Lakota, imprisoned by the oppressive Soviet gov-ernment for twenty years, who is released to Rome at the height of the Cold War in a Soviet bid to control the Vatican and achieve geopolitical domination. The current Pope dies, and he is elected Pope Kiril. As Pope, he faces enormous pressure from global powers and the Church. Watch the movie to see how he responds.

V National Encuentro Beginning in 2017, the Diocese of Tyler will participate in the V National Encuentro to discern ways in which the Church in the United States can better respond to the Hispanic/Latino presence, and to strengthen the ways in which Hispanics/Latinos respond to the call to the New Evangelization as mis-sionary disciples serving the entire Church. Fr. Ariel Cortes will serve as the diocesan coordinator for this effort. For more information, visit http://vencuentro.org/.

Holy Day Reminder Thursday, December 8 is a the Solemnity of the Immaculate Conception of the Blessed Virgin Mary - a Holy Day of Obligation. Our Lady under the title of the Immaculate Conception is the patroness of the Diocese of Tyler. Mass at St. Theresa will be Wednesday @ 5pm Thursday @ 8am

The Four Weeks of Advent The four candles represent the four weeks of Advent. A tradition is that each week represents one thousand years, to sum to the 4,000 years from Adam and Eve until the Birth of the Savior. Three candles are purple and one is rose. The purple candles in particular symbolize the prayer, penance, and preparatory sacrifices and goods works undertaken at this time. The rose candle is lit on the third Sunday, Gaudete Sunday, when the priest also wears rose vestments at Mass; Gaudete Sunday is the Sunday of rejoicing, because the faithful have arrived at the midpoint of Advent, when their preparation is now half over and they are close to Christmas. The progressive lighting of the candles symbolizes the expectation and hope surrounding our Lord’s first coming into the world and the anticipation of His second coming to judge the living and the dead.
