Principal’s News “Open Our Hearts, Lord, to Your Community”
Dear Parents, Welcome back to a new and exciting school year. Thank you to everyone who helped to make our SneakaPeek such an enjoyable event. We are excited to be back. This year, we are using a “Fishers of Men” theme. Teachers and staff will be looking for ways to recognize the positive things our students do every day. Each week the teachers will fill out fish to “catch” these positive examples. If your child receives a fish, they will receive a fish sticker to wear home to let you know they were “caught” doing something awesome. We will recognize these students each week in the new section of the newsletter called “Catch of the Week!” A big fish will be put in the hallway in the fish net. A huge shoutout goes to Mrs. Wilson who drew the beautiful picture of Jesus and the fishing boat for the bulletin board. We look forward to see you at Back to School Night on August 23 at 7:00 P.M. Please follow us on Twitter at @stsimonbulldogs and on Facebook under St. Simon the Apostle Catholic Church and Community. I will be posting pictures and tweeting about all the exciting things our students and teachers will be doing and participating in this year. Open Our Hearts, Mrs. Hiatt

What’s Your Catholic IQ? For Catholics, God’s grace is
a)learned through good works b) only for saints c) unnecessary d) a free gift
Welcome back to St. Simon and to a new beginning. Each day is a new beginning. God walks with us as we strive to live the virtues of loving one another and praising God. This year our theme is “OPEN OUR HEARTS, LORD, TO YOUR COMMUNITY”. As we learn about the two virtues of “acceptance” and “respect” our community will reflect our theme. I am sure you have all noticed our “Welcome” as you enter the school office. It is refreshing and joyful. The phrase, “we catch ‘em, God cleans ‘em” is what we are about. We will be catching those who are caught doing good deeds in word or action. It should be a fun year “fishing” with each other! Each week our students will attend Mass on Tuesday and Thursday. Twice during this school year, Reconciliation will be made available to them. Throughout the year, we will celebrate special days e.g. Bible blessing, canned food and toy drives, etc. Each morning, we begin the day with Intercom Prayer. Our Student council Commissioner of Religion, Grace Quante, will lead the entire school in prayer. WE pray for all those who are sick, for special intentions, a monthly prayer and a pledge to the cross and the pledge of allegiance. Prayer is the perfect way to begin our day. Grace will also announce the servers for the day, the feast day, and those celebrating their birthday or baptism. May you have a wonderful year. Remember to… Enjoy each day! Mary Jo Ponder
St. Simon CYC Athletics Friday Night Lights is Friday, October 14, 2016. This is an evening that celebrates CYC Soccer and CYC Volleyball in a Fall Festival type environment. New this year: 62' double slide obstacle course (twice the size of year’s past) and your ability to purchase meatballs from Fuhgeddaboudit Mangia Food Truck. Fun and Yum!
A Student's Prayer for A New School Year Dear Jesus, as we begin this new school year, please walk beside us and keep Your loving hand upon us that we might learn and grow as You want us to. We don't know yet what this year will bring, but we ask You please to show us how to love and respect our new teachers and classmates. Open our minds and hearts to all that we will learn from them. Help us to make good friends and to be good friends to those who need us. Most of all, please help us to be open to all the new knowledge that this year of learning holds for us. Help us to be the best students we can be and in this way to give You praise and thanks and glory.
AMEN
