INTRODUCTION
This document presents a report to the Parochial Church Council of St. Stephen’s Anglican church
on the year 2011 youth week celebrations.
BACKGROUND AND RATIONALE
At this year’s African Union conference of the Assembly of Heads of States and government, one
major issue that cropped up was youth development. Heads of states and presidents of member
countries discussed ways of providing resources to equip the youth to enhance their personal
development and the development of their countries. Heads of member countries were therefore
charged to do more and come out with innovative strategies and policies to tackle youth
development.
EFFORTS MADE TO SUSTAIN AND DEVELOP THE YOUTH BY THE CHURCH
The church has over the years come out with strategies to overcome social vices and societal
problems affecting the youth and preventing them from their development. Various forums,
conferences and camps have been organized by the church to sustain the youth. These
programmes have over the years centred on the following;
Promoting Christian fellowship and unity amongst the Youth.
Providing and offering effective leadership to the Youth of the Church.
Fulfilling the tenets of the Great Commission through Evangelism.
Building and enhancing the capacities of the Youth through its programmes
Unravelling and utilising the God given talents in the youth
THE YOUTH WEEK CELEBRATIONS
The question of how to attract and keep our young people close to the Church is one of major
concern in our troubled age. To remain indifferent to this problem can only be regarded as a grave
sin and is an indication of soul-destroying self-love.
We, the youth of St Stephen’s Anglican Church believe that the government and the church
leadership cannot do this alone. We must supplement their effort by getting involved at the local
level. To achieve a real change in people’s attitude and behaviours, it is important to create an
enabling environment but also implement strategies, which can motivate the youth since they are

the future of Ghana and the church. In line with this realization, the youth of the church decided to
celebrate this year’s Youth Week to use as a platform to help the youth discover their God given
potentials and build their self-confidence to make them more committed to the work of God and
the church and the development of Ghana.
This year’s youth week celebration was held under the theme, “SUSTAINING THE YOUTH; OUR
CHALLENGES, OUR FUTURE”
Tailor-made programmes and activities were organised to help sustain the youth of the church for
the development of their future and the church.
