ALL SAINTS

Anyone can know Jesus. This is God’s

free gift of grace to those who have

faith. Knowing Jesus can cost every-

thing. But we do not walk the path of

discipleship alone. We have the Holy

Spirit. We are called to a life of faith

and love. We are called to prayer. We

are not alone, for we have each other,

the Church. We are called to grow in

wisdom, knowledge and revelation.

We are called to know the hope of our

calling in Jesus and know the power

of God which he used to raise Christ

from the dead. We are never alone,

even in death.

We give thanks for the lives of all of

those whom God has called to himself,

especially those whom we have loved

and lost, but for a while.

It is time again for the Cathedral parish to Making Disciples

The Journey It is time again for the Cathedral parish to begin gathering people for The Jour-ney. The Journey is based on the Cate-chumenate, the method used in the early church to form disciples. The aim is to move people on The Journey through questions like: Who is Jesus anyway?; What is the church about? To: How can I serve?, What ministry can I offer? The Journey is a process, not a program. It begins with the needs of the candidates and brings Christ to them, where they are. People enter the journey to faith from many entry points. Some are: life changes - such as moving house; changing jobs; crises and tragedies; life questions such as why am I here, what am I meant to do with my life; rites of passage - baptism of a child, confirmation, marriage and sometimes - curiosity. In The Journey, they ask their questions and they are answered in the context of our faith and life in Christ. The Journey is a way to form disciples, who become genuinely committed to Christ and his community and renew the parish life along the way. It is about coming to faith, or returning to faith, in the context of the average parish community, and living out faith there. Who will you invite?

St Saviour’s Cathedral Hymns November 6th 2016

Opening Hymn

For all the saints who from their labours rest,

Who to the world, their Lord by faith confessed,

Your name, O Jesus, be for ever blessed.

Alleluia, Alleluia!

You were their rock, their fortress and their might,

You were their captain in the well fought fight,

In deepest darkness still their one true light.

Alleluia, Alleluia!

So may your servants, faithful, true and bold,

Fight as the saints who nobly fought of old,

And win, with them, the victor’s crown of gold.

Alleluia, Alleluia!

O blest communion, fellowship divine!

We feebly struggle, they in glory shine,

All yours, all joined in unity divine.

Alleluia, Alleluia!

And when the strife is fierce, the warfare long,

Steals on the ear the distant triumph song,

And hearts are brave again, and arms are strong.

Alleluia, Alleluia!

The golden evening brightens in the west;

Soon, soon to faithful warriors comes their rest,

The peaceful calm of paradise the blest.

Alleluia, Alleluia!

But see, there breaks a yet more glorious day;

The saints triumphant rise in bright array;

The King of glory passes on his way.

Alleluia, Alleluia!

From earth’s wide bounds and ocean’s farthest shore,

Through heaven’s gate the holy people pour;

The Three-in-One for ever they adore.

Alleluia, Alleluia!

Offertory Hymn

Who are these like stars appearing,

These, before God’s throne who stand?

Each a golden crown is wearing:

Who are all this glorious band?

Alleluia, hark, they sing,

Praising loud their heavenly King.

Who are these in dazzling brightness,

Clothed in God’s own righteousness,

These, whose robes of purest whiteness

Shall their lustre still possess,

Still untouched by time’s rude hand?

Whence came all this glorious band?

These are they who have contended

For their Saviour’s honour long,

Wrestling on till life was ended,

Following not the sinful throng;

These, who well the fight sustained,

Triumph by the Lamb have gained.

These are they whose hearts were riven,

Sore with woe and anguish tried,

Who in prayer full oft have striven

With the God they glorified;

Now their painful conflict o’er,

God has bid them weep no more.

Gradual Hymn

God, whose city’s sure foundation

Stands upon his holy hill,

By his mighty inspiration

Chose of old and chooses still

Men and women from each nation

His good pleasure to fulfil.

Here before us through the ages,

While the Christian years went by,

Saints, confessors, martyrs, sages,

Strong to live and strong to die,

Wrote their names upon the pages

Of God’s blessèd company.

Some there were like lamps of learning

Shining in a faithless night,

Some on fire with love, and burning

With a flaming zeal for right,

Some by simple goodness turning

Souls from darkness unto light.

Final Hymn

God, we praise you, God, we bless you,

God, we name you sovereign Lord!

Mighty King whom angels worship,

Father, by your church adored:

All creation shows your glory,

Heaven and earth draw near your throne,

Singing, “Holy, holy, holy,

Lord of hosts, and God alone!”

True apostles, faithful prophets,

Saints who set their world ablaze,

Martyrs, once unknown, unheeded,

Join one growing song of praise,

While your church on earth confesses

One majestic Trinity:

Father, Son, the Holy Spirit,

God our hope eternally.

Christ, at God’s right hand victorious,

You will judge the world you made;

Lord, in mercy help your servants

For whose freedom you have paid:

Raise us up from dust to glory,

Guard us from all sin today;

King enthroned above all praises,

Save your people, God, we pray.
