XXXIV SUNDAY IN ORDINARY TIME

Our Lord Jesus, Christ King of the Universe

With the Festivity of Jesus Christ King of

the Universe, we finish the Ordinary Time of

this Liturgical Year, the time in which we

have been going through the life and the pub-

lic ministry of Jesus. So, concluding this

journey - Advent begins the next Sunday, the

beginning of the new liturgical year, recog-

nizing Jesus Christ as Lord of all creation, is

like the climax and the culmination of our

whole believing experience, formed, watered

and grown in the year that concludes. Recog-

nizing Jesus, the Christ, the Lord, as King,

has a deep sense of identifying him as author

and lord of all that exists, with authority and

power above all, but also as the servant of

everything. Although it is equally evident,

that Jesus Christ King. It is a king whose

throne is a cross, whose purple is blood and

whose crown is a torture of thorns and

wounds. Today's Gospel shows this clearly.

Christ is not a king who exercises his authori-

ty with power, abuse and dominion, with

force and violence, but shows his maximum

strength and authority, in the humiliation of

the surrendered and defeated. The cross as

incomprehensible foolishness. And yet with

immense greatness fruit of the love and kind-

ness of the one who gives himself, the deep

meaning of those open embraces that wel-

come all, which are a sign of forgiveness and

reconciliation, of justice and freedom for all

who welcome his love.

XXXIV DOMINGO DEL TIEMPO ORDINARIO

JESUCRISTO, REY DEL UNIVERSO

Con la Festividad de Jesucristo Rey del Uni-

verso, terminamos el Tiempo Ordinario de este

año Litúrgico, el tiempo en el que hemos ido reco-

rriendo la vida y el ministerio público de Jesús.

Así pues, concluir este recorrido –el próximo do-

mingo comienza el Adviento, el comienzo del

nuevo año litúrgico, reconociendo a Jesucristo co-

mo Señor de toda la creación, es como el colofón

y el culmen de toda nuestra experiencia creyente,

formada, regada y crecida en el año que concluye.

Reconocer a Jesús, el Cristo, el Señor, como Rey,

tiene un profundo sentido de identificarle como

autor y señor de cuanto existe, con autoridad y po-

der sobre todo, pero así mismo, como servidor de

todo. Aunque es igualmente evidente, que Jesu-

cristo Rey. Es un rey cuyo trono es una cruz, cuya

púrpura es la sangre y cuya corona es una tortura

de espinos y heridas. El evangelio de hoy lo mues-

tra claramente. No es Cristo un rey que ejerce su

autoridad con poder, abuso y dominio, con fuerza

y violencia, sino que muestra su máxima fortaleza

y autoridad, en la humillación del entregado y

vencido. La cruz como necedad incomprensible.

Y aun así con una inmensa grandeza fruto del

amor y la bondad de quien se entrega, del sentido

profundo de esos abrazos abiertos que acogen a

todos, que son un signo de perdón y reconcilia-

ción, de justicia y libertad para todos los que se

acogen a su amor.
