St. Priscilla Parish Mission Statement
We, the people of St. Priscilla Parish, grounded in the Word of God and
Sacred Tradition, find strength and joy in the transforming power of Christ's sacrificial
love as manifested in the Eucharist. We commit ourselves to lifelong spiritual
formation, compassionate service, evangelization and the generous sharing of
God’s gifts with our parish family and the community at large.
We invite people from all cultures and walks of life to join us in our faith journey.
St. Priscilla Parish Family
Fr. Theo’s Thoughts
Dear Friends, I am happy to be back to share the
beautiful experiences; things that I saw and
believed. When Jesus took Peter, John and James to
Mt. Tabor, he was transfigured and Peter said to Jesus “It’s nice
to be here. I will make booths. One for you, one for Moses and
one for Elijah.” But Jesus said to them that they would see
great things. It was a great experience for me to climb Mt.
Tabor and visit inside the church of the Transfiguration. I have
read so much about Jesus’ ministry, his life, his death, etc. I had
heard so much from people, but now I had the first hand
experience of all this when I visited those places. The places
mentioned in the Old Testament,; the place of Jesus’ birth, his
baptism, his visit to the synagogue, Mount of the beatitudes, the
garden of Gethsemane, Mt. Calvary or Golgotha, etc. It was a
life time experience to me. I prayed for all of you, especially
when I walked the way of the cross in the footsteps of Jesus.
The Gospel passage for this weekend is a reminder for us
that we have to be always prepared and ready. The Parable of
the ten virgins; five foolish and five wise, warns us that there
are certain things which can’t be obtained at the last minute. A)
A good relationship with God. B) Good character. C) Merits
from good deeds of sharing and forgiving. D) love and humble
service done to others. What is the oil that we lack? Oil in
scripture is often a symbol for the Holy Spirit. Let us therefore
open our hearts and minds to the promptings of the Holy Spirit.
Peace,
Fr. Theo

NEEDED:
A few young Men, Women,
maybe a couple?
I have had a few of my
volunteers retire this past year and
I sure could use some help in
cleaning the church.
We do a very light cleaning,
usually on Thursday or Friday for
about 2 hours or so. With the
present rotation, it’s only about 5
times a year. You work on your
own at your own pace within your
own schedule. Please help!
Call Marge Kelley at 734-451-
0463.
Thank You, Thank You,
Thank YOU!!
A big thank you to all of the
people that made the tower
luncheon a rousing success: To
those that donated the food and to
the hands that prepared it. To the
“goodie bag” fillers. Also to the
crew that decorated and to those
that greeted our guests. The
transportation drivers were much
appreciated by the guests that
needed to be picked up.
The young people were the
stars of the luncheon. Not only did
they serve our guests but they
interacted with them. There were
smiles all around. Thank you to all
of our stars.
The clean-up crew put
everything back in good order after
the guests were well fed and driven
back home.
We have been truly blessed
with our wonderful, charitable
parishioners. Once again, thank
you, thank you and thank you.

Information provided by Kay Kermode
Preventing Type 2 Diabetes in Youth
Children who are not active and are above the recommended weight for their
height are at high risk for type 2 diabetes.
Inactivity and being overweight often bring on and worsen other diseases
such as heart disease and high blood pressure
 Fatigue
 Thirst
 Hunger
 Frequent urination
Darker skin around the neck and underarms
Unfortunately, there may be no signs or symptoms at first.
It is important to determine if a child has type 2 diabetes, because
every day that the blood sugar is elevated, hurts the body.
If there is type 2 diabetes in adult relatives, watch for signs of diabetes
in your children (and yourself) and get tested.
Help your children to be active every day.
◊ Encourage activities (outdoor play, bike riding and other sports).
◊ Reduce time spent watching TV, playing videos, using the computer.
◊ Promote chores that are safe for your child’s age (cutting the grass, raking,
gardening, cleaning their room, etc.
◊ Enlist your child’s help with chores (washing or waxing the car).
◊ Do fun activities with your children.
◊ Take short walks. Family walks can be fun.
◊ Have children walk or bike rather than be driven.
◊ Promote walking the dog.
◊ Plan vacations which include active play.
◊ Have outdoor home sports available (volleyball, badminton, basketball,
trampoline, etc.).
◊ Include a friend to join in your child's activities for more fun.
◊ Promote activity after school before homework.
◊ Choose gifts that include physical activity (balls, skates, kites, etc.)
◊ Be active yourself and show your children it’s fun.
Prepare healthy meals and healthy snacks for your children to eat.
◊ Avoid high fat food choices (fried foods and desserts).
◊ Select restaurants with healthy choices.
◊ Avoid “super sizing” fast food choices
◊ Have healthy snacks (fruit, vegetables, whole grain snacks) in the house.
◊ Encourage a variety of foods for good nutrition.
◊ Remember, snacks have calories too, so watch the amount of snacks.
◊ Do not encourage children to eat if they are not hungry.
◊ Use the Food Pyramid as the basis for family meals.
