Indeed, it has allowed me to hear God’s call to slow down my work outside the home. I look forward to seeing you all when I return to St. Philip on Sunday, March 16, but I find myself praying even more fervently for the work of the Associate Pastor Nominating Committee. The person who will become your full time installed associate pastor will be blessed, as I have, by your mission, your thoughtfulness, and your compassion for those who suffer. And when that person arrives, I will be blessed to continue following God’s call, this time with a family focus. God is good! All the time! In Christ’s service, Elizabeth Lent 2014 There are certain times in life when we carry heavy loads. Unlike the worker who actually carries the weight doing their job, our heavy loads we cannot unload at the end of the day. We carry them to bed – wrestle with them during the day and sometimes it seems like we carry heavy loads for days, months and even years. These loads are sometimes named and sometimes they are unnamed, but they take their toll. In Matthew’s Gospel we read Jesus say, "Come to me, all you that are weary and are carrying heavy burdens and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you, and learn from me; for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy, and my burden is light." (Matthew 11:28-30) “Rest” in these verses is Jesus’ invitation to us. And although Jesus might be talking more about Sabbath rest, the point we can gain is that Jesus will provide us peace and real rest. Christ is our real peace. Sometimes we believe that if we could just take a day off, or sleep in one day that we could find the rest for our souls, but this kind of rest for our souls we only gain from the Christ. In this season of Lent and after all we have experienced in our community of faith in the past few weeks, perhaps we should take Jesus’ invitation to heart and allow him to be our “yoke-mate.” Someone said, that “Jesus' yoke--though "easy" and the burden "light"--nonetheless gives us direction and purpose for our lives. We no longer need to create and re-create ourselves--we can be gently re-sculpted into Christ's likeness.” It’s not too late to read a book that might help us with our walk with Jesus to the cross. The book “Five Practices of Fruitful Living” is available and small groups are gathering weekly to discuss each chapter. Please see me to pick up a book. And may you find the Christ walking with you – helping you with the heavy loads. Blessings Abound

Dear Friends,

It has been such a blessing to welcome baby Anthony into our lives. I have thoroughly enjoyed being a “stay – at – home mom,” blessed by his growth from newborn to infant, hearing his coos and watching his face light up with smiles, and seeing Michael become such a loving big brother. I am grateful to work in the church where the value of family life is understood. Thank you from the bottom of my heart for the adoption leave granted.

A wonderful new opportunity for lunch with friends in March.

On March 27th some of our Presbyterian Women will be serving lunch for one and all. Why? Presbyterian women have embraced a new mission because our P.D.O. need funds and they are a vital part of our outreach programs! For just $10.00 each (remember this is a fund raiser) you can enjoy lunch with your friends in our fellowship hall. We will not have linen tablecloths or violin music but we will have good food shared with friends and neighbors for a great cause. Invite everyone you know and be part of this important time in the life of our St. Philip Preschool.

One Great Hour of Sharing Children’s Offering

Children are bringing home a special fish bank and giving calendar for our Easter offering, One Great Hour of Sharing. These gifts help people around the world to experience God’s love through medical help, vocational training, and emergency relief programs. We hope this bank and calendar help your child feel a part of our church’s caring ministry. If your family would like to participate in this offering during Lent but didn’t receive a bank and calendar, please pick them up in the church office or from Jennifer Friedel, Interim Director of Christian Education. You may return the bank to worship on Easter Sunday, April 20. We will collect banks during the Time for Young Christians.

Note of the Week………………

I keep thinking that spring will be here any day now, and yet the weathermen keep forecasting 50 degree daytime highs and 30 degree nighttime lows! Our beautiful Bradford Pear trees burst into bloom last week only to be blighted by a hard freeze! (Now, they are brown Bradford Pear trees! L) And yes, after complaining to someone about not having spring, they reminded me that we would soon be sweltering in the Texas sun, and that we probably would not have a spring at all. How dismal is that! But I remain optimistic! I love Easter and new beginnings. The weather may not cooperate, but one sure thing is that Christ died upon the cross and rose again from the dead bringing the promise of eternal life. We can rely on the “good news” of the Gospel of Christ’s resurrection from the dead! Hallelujah! Lent began last Wednesday with our Ash Wednesday service and continues until Palm Sunday and Holy Week. The Chancel Choir will be singing more contemplative anthems and this Sunday will be singing “Lord Jesus, By Thy Passion” by Palestrina. The lyrics are: Lord Jesus, by Thy passion, to Thee I make my prayer. Thou who in mercy smitest, have mercy, Lord, and spare.

See you in church on Sunday.

Joyfully Singing in Christ, Pam Cochrane

Dear Members of St. Philip, Thank you so much for helping & supporting me to go on a trip to Mexico this spring break. It is amazing, comforting, and inspiring to know I have such a wonderful church family having my back and carrying me forward. I am tremendously blessed to be a part of such a giving community and strong believers. I have no doubt God will help me share the love I have been given from y’all, onto these kids. Thank you, I am so grateful, Kelsey Jowell

Rachael and husband Tony Moffett have been married for thirteen years. They have two children, Melissa age 12 and James age 9. Due to a job change, they made a move from Houston and have lived in North Fort Worth for approximately eight months. They were engaged members of Pines Presbyterian Church, Houston. They visited several churches but felt right at home the first time they visited St. Philip. They have transitioned nicely into the life of St. Philip and are already active in various church activities.

Rachael loves to read and does substitute teaching in Keller. She trained as a Stephen Minister, has been involved in various small group studies and has served on the nominating committee. She has a vested interest in youth planning and would like to be involved in some way with youth missions. Melissa has bonded very well with the youth group. Outside of SPPC she enjoys dance and plans to be in the choir next year. She is a sixth grader. James is happy to take part in church school and studying his Action Bible. He is in the fourth grade, sings in the choir and enjoys tennis when he has free time. Welcome to the Moffett Family.
