St. Peter’s Church Lenten Retreat
Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday, March 11th - 13th
7:00pm at Our Lady of the Rosary Chapel
“Yet even now, says the Lord, return to me with all your heart”Joel 2:12-17
Lent is a gift. It is a gift of time. A time to embark upon a journey of self-discovery, inner awareness, and the quiet, loving embrace of Jesus.
Our Lenten Retreat will be presented by Jim Ryan, author and motivational speaker. Jim has the unique ability to take profound,
life changing concepts and turn them into easily understood solutions. Jim Ryan is an author of the inspirational book
“Simple Happiness; 52 Ways to Lighten Up”.
His Lenten topics will be:
March 11th - Eight Characteristics of Happy People
March 12th - Managing Thought, Key to Experiencing God’s Love
March 13th - Start to Live Heaven on Earth
Free yourself of cares and troubles to receive more fully God’s grace, love and mercy during this season of Lent.
A Reading from the Book of Deuteronomy (DT 26:4-10)
Moses spoke to the people, saying: “The priest shall receive the basket from you and shall set it in
front of the altar of the LORD, your God. Then you shall declare before the Lord, your God, ‘My
father was a wandering Aramean who went down to Egypt with a small household and lived there
as an alien. But there he became a nation great, strong, and numerous. When the Egyptians
maltreated and oppressed us, imposing hard labor upon us, we cried to the LORD, the God of our
fathers, and he heard our cry and saw our affliction, our toil, and our oppression. He brought us out
of Egypt with his strong hand and outstretched arm, with terrifying power, with signs and wonders;
and bringing us into this country, he gave us this land flowing with milk and honey. Therefore, I
have now brought you the firstfruits of the products of the soil which you, O LORD, have given
me.’ And having set them before the Lord, your God, you shall bow down in his presence.”
Lector: The Word of the Lord. People: Thanks be to God.
March 10, 2019The First Sunday of Lent
There are no flowers on the altar or music during Lent.(The people’s responses in bold represent wording that Pope Benedict had changed in the Mass throughout the world.)
Greeting
Priest: The Lord be with you.People: And with your spirit.
The Confiteor
I confess to almighty Godand to you, my brothers and sisters, that I have greatly sinnedin my thoughts and in my words,in what I have doneand in what I have failed to do, (And then striking your breast three times)through my fault, through my fault, through my most grievous fault;therefore, I ask blessed Mary ever-Virgin, all the Angels and Saints, and you, my brothers and sisters, to pray for me to the Lord our God. Priest: Lord have mercy. People: Lord have mercy.Priest: Christ have mercy. People: Christ have mercy.Priest: Lord have mercy. People: Lord have mercy.*
*(Or any other option the priest chooses. “The Lord havemercy” can be sung as “Kyrie elÁison” or the Penitentialhymn “Asperges” may be sung.) Jesus is Tempted in the Desert
A Reading from the First Letter of St. Paul to the Romans (ROM 10:8-13)
Brothers and sisters: What does Scripture say? The word is near you, in your mouth and inyour heart —that is, the word of faith that we preach—, for, if you confess with your mouththat Jesus is Lord and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will besaved. For one believes with the heart and so is justified, and one confesses with the mouthand so is saved. For the Scripture says, No one who believes in him will be put to shame. Forthere is no distinction between Jew and Greek; the same Lord is Lord of all, enriching allwho call upon him. For “everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved.”
Lector: The Word of the Lord. People: Thanks be to God.
A Reading from the Holy Gospel according to Luke (LK 4:1-13)
People: Glory to you, O Lord.
Filled with the Holy Spirit, Jesus returned from the Jordan and was led by the Spiritinto the desert for forty days, to be tempted by the devil. He ate nothing duringthose days, and when they were over he was hungry. The devil said to him, “If youare the Son of God, command this stone to become bread.” Jesus answered him, “Itis written, One does not live on bread alone.” Then he took him up and showed himall the kingdoms of the world in a single instant. The devil said to him, “I shall giveto you all this power and glory; for it has been handed over to me, and I may give itto whomever I wish. All this will be yours, if you worship me.” Jesus said to him inreply, “It is written: You shall worship the Lord, your God, and him alone shall youserve.” Then he led him to Jerusalem, made him stand on the parapet of the temple, and said to him, “If you are the Son of God, throw yourself down from here, for it iswritten: He will command his angels concerning you, to guard you, and: With theirhands they will support you, lest you dash your foot against a stone.” Jesus said tohim in reply, “It also says, You shall not put the Lord, your God, to the test.” Whenthe devil had finished every temptation, he departed from him for a time.
Priest: The Gospel of the Lord. People: Praise to You, Lord Jesus Christ.
The Responsorial: Be with me, Lord, when I am in trouble. (PS 91:1-2, 10-11, 12-13, 14-15)
Lector: Alleluia People Only: Alleluia (Stand)
Lector Only: One does not live on bread alone, but on every word that comes forth from the mouth of God.
People Only: Alleluia
Priest: The Lord be with you. People: And with your spirit.
Creed
I believe in one God, the Father almighty,
Maker of heaven and earth,
of all things visible and invisible.
I believe in one Lord Jesus Christ,
the Only Begotten Son of God,
born of the Father before all ages.
God from God, Light from Light,
true God from true God,
begotten, not made,
consubstantial with the Father;
through Him all things were made.
For us men and for our salvation He came down
from heaven,At the words that follow, up to and including and became Man, all bow
and by the Holy Spirit was Incarnate of the
Virgin Mary and became Man.
For our sake He was crucified under Pontius
Pilate,
He suffered death and was buried,
and rose again on the third day
in accordance with the Scriptures.
He ascended into heaven and is seated at the right
hand of the Father.
He will come again in glory to judge the living
and the dead and his kingdom will have no end.
I believe in the Holy Spirit, the Lord, the Giver of
Life, who proceeds from the Father and the Son,
Who with the Father and the Son is adored and
glorified, who has spoken through the prophets.
I believe in one, holy, catholic and apostolic Church.
I confess one Baptism for the forgiveness of sins
and I look forward to the resurrection of the dead
and the life of the world to come.
Amen.

On April 1st there will be a 6% increase regarding the prices of the interments, graves, niches and crypts at St. Peter’scemetery. This is not an attempt to make money. It’s more an attempt not to lose any more money. The prices in themausoleum have not been raised since the mausoleum opened in 1996. The prices of the graves at the cemetery, tothe best of my knowledge, have not been raised in the area of ten years. As we all know, expenses and wagesseemingly go up yearly. In order to pay our workers a just wage, maintain the vast cemetery grounds and largemausoleum, which in that case, includes heating and cooling costs, this price increase needs to be done.
In Christ,
Father Patrick Curley
St Peters Cemetery will be doing a clean-up beginning March 25. Clean-up also includes the Mausoleum.Cemetery workers will remove decorations which are not in compliance with the Rules and Regulations.Due to the volume of decorations being removed, it is impossible to make provision to claim items afterthey have been removed. Therefore, should families desire to retain items that are against the Rules and
Regulations, they must be removed prior to the scheduled clean-up date.
Rules and Regulations are posted in the Mausoleum, in the sections throughout the cemetery and
on our website. If you would like a copy of the Rules and Regulations please contact the cemetery
office at (845) 452-8580 x115. Thank you in advance for your cooperation.
