Two Saints to invoke against contagion
St. Roch (died 1327AD) ministered to victims of an epidemic, was responsible for miraculous cures, contracted the disease himself, withdrew to the woods were he was himself miracu-lously healed. He has since been invoked in favor of victims of the plague and other epidemics.
St. Rosalie (died 1166AD) lived as a hermitess and died alone in her cave on Mt. Pelligrino outside Palermo, Sicily. In 1624, when a plague threatened the city she appeared to a hunter, revealed to him the location of her bones and ordered they be carried in procession. After her bones were carried three times around the city the plague ceased. She is the patron saint of Palermo.

St. Peter’s is open for Mass. We need it! Adoration rather than protest. If you are sick do not come; if you are afraid or nervous feel free to stay home. Otherwise, at your own risk, feel free to come to whatever Mass you like. First come, first served. You will still need to let the ushers seat you. We will still need our sanitizing crews, and we have been really shorthanded after the 5:30pm Mass on Saturday. Please avoid use of bathrooms as much as possible. The weekend Mass schedule (until further notice): Sat-urday 5:30pm English, 7:00pm Spanish; Sunday 8:00am Spanish, 10:00am English, 12:00 Noon Spanish.

SMA & St. Peter Confirmation Update:
We finally have answers!! The Bishop has granted faculties to his Parish Priests to be able to confer the Sacrament in their individual Parishes. What does that mean? That means that our own Pastor can give the Sacrament of Confirmation. The Bishop has asked to be invited to the Confirmations so that he can attend if his schedule allows. If the Bishop should be able to attend any of our Confirmation Masses he will then be the Main Celebrant and confer the Sacra-ment of Confirmation to the Confirmandi.
We have scheduled Confirmation Masses for:
Wednesday, August 12th @ 6:30pm
Thursday, August 13th @ 6:30pm
Each Confirmation Family should have received a letter in the mail last week with these details and a few more, please call the office and let us know which language you would prefer. That will help us determine the majority for each Mass which will de-termine which language the Mass will be celebrated in.

From the Pastor’s Desk – Fr. Levine- Last Sunday, I pointed out that there will be some who enter into this life in a more privileged condition, whether as regards health, or wealth, or ac-cess to education, or nationality, or social standing, or any other factor that bears upon the goods of this world. I suggested that this was not inherently bad, even if sometimes there is some past injustice that will be involved. Indeed, that past injustice cannot automatically be regarded as the decisive factor. Suppose a man acquires vast wealth through unjust means and then passes that wealth on to his heirs. Next, suppose that over the course of several generations his heirs increase that wealth (by just means) and make good use of that wealth for the upbuilding of society. So, after 100 years, for example, is all the good that has come through that wealth, wrought by people who did not directly share the injustice of their ancestor, to be characterized solely by the injustice of the ancestor? In the end, did it not result that men who were born into privi-lege on account of an injustice, nevertheless fulfilled well the responsibilities that came with their privilege. They acquitted themselves nobly, even if their forbear was a rascal and a crimi-nal. Of course, it can go the other way as well. One man, through hard work and honest industry amasses a fortune that he leaves to his children. After his death, though, his children, lacking in gratitude and judging their fortune to be their entitlement, end up either squandering their fortune or abusing the power that it brought them. Such are the ups and downs of human life. Now, one thing to observe here is that the atheist, who cannot rightly believe in any sort of providence nor even any benevolent ‘luck’, must despair in the face of these inequalities. He can see in this type of inequality nothing but a sort of cruel impersonality. Actually, that must be how the atheist sees the world and life in general – cruelly impersonal, or impersonally cru-el. Human life becomes nothing more than an unending game of ‘King of the Hill’. The problem goes even deeper. Consider that every single human being is individually, from an atheistic perspective, nothing more than a most improbable accident. Without even con-sidering the accident of human existence itself, the existence of an individual, say Winston Churchill, required the improbable accident that his parents met and united at the right time in the right circumstances so that of the father’s countless sperm the one that would produce Winston fertilized the mother’s ovum. Then between the time of his conception and the com-pletion of his first year there probably any number of close calls (many completely unknown to his parents) that could have put an end to little Winston. The same was true, by the way of Adolf Hitler. The same is true of each one of us. In our conception, birth, and survival, we are each the result of an extraordinary set of coincidences. From the atheistic perspective the magnification of this improbability of our existence makes life all the more meaningless. Our faith, however, assures us not only that God exists, but that he governs all things by his mighty, wise, and loving providence. This transforms all these acci-dental circumstances of our individual existence into carefully planned expressions of God’s love, of which we are the personal beneficiaries. The perspective of divine providence, however, introduces a new perspective on privilege, to-gether with one great equalizer. The worldly perspective of privilege prioritizes such things as economic and social standing. Since the goal of divine providence is not a person’s temporal well-being, but eternal salva-tion, those are most truly privileged by birth who enter the world in circumstances that most equip them to recognize and respond to the goodness of God, revealed above all in the salvific work of Jesus Christ. Desde el Escritorio del párroco El Padre José – El domingo pasado, señalé que habrá algunos que entrarán en esta vida en una condición más privilegiada, ya sea en materia de salud o riqueza, o acceso a la educación, o nacionalidad, posición social, o cualquier otro fac-tor que influya en los bienes de este mundo. Sugerí que esto no era inherentemente malo, incluso si a veces hay alguna injusticia pasada que esté involucrada. De hecho, esa injusticia pasada no puede considerarse au-tomáticamente como el factor decisivo.
