POPE FRANCIS: THE IMMACULATE CONCEPTION The Feast of the Immaculate Conception leads us to contemplate Our Lady who, by unique privilege, was preserved from original sin from the very moment of her conception. Even living in a world marked by sin, she was not touched by it: Mary is our sister in suffering, but not in evil or in sin. Instead, evil was conquered in her even before deflowering her, because God had filled her with grace (cf. Lk 1:28). The Immaculate Conception signifies that Mary is the first one to be saved by the infinite mercy of the Father, which is the first fruit of salvation which God wills to give to every man and woman, in Christ. For this reason the Immaculate One has become the sublime icon of the divine mercy which conquered sin. Today, at the beginning of the Jubilee of Mercy, we want to look to this icon with trusting love and to contemplate her in all her splendour, emulating her faith. In the Immaculate Conception of Mary we are invited to recognize the dawn of the new world, transformed by the salvific work of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit. The dawn of the new creation brought about by divine mercy. For this reason the Virgin Mary, never infected by sin and always full of God, is the mother of a new humanity. She is the mother of the recreated world. Celebrating this feast entails two things. First: fully welcoming God and his merciful grace into our life. Second: becoming in our turn artisans of mercy by means of an evangelical journey. The Feast of the Immaculate Conception then becomes the feast of all of us if, with our daily “yes”, we manage to overcome our selfishness and make the life of our brothers ever more glad, to give them hope, by drying a few tears and giving a bit of joy. In imitation of Mary, we are called to become bearers of Christ and witnesses to his love, looking first of all to those who are privileged in the eyes of Jesus. It is they who he himself indicated: “I was hungry and you gave me food, I was thirsty and you gave me drink, I was a stranger and you welcomed me, I was naked and you clothed me, I was sick and you visited me, I was in prison and you came to me” (Mt 25:35-36).

RELIGIOUS EDUCATION NEWS The Religious Education office is open from 9:30AM to 2PM Monday thru Thursdays, Monday thru Wednesday nights from 6:00PM to 8:30PM and Saturday mornings from 9AM to 12PM. Please call (845) 429 – 8824 for more information. Both Confirmation parent meetings have passed. If you did not attend any of the meetings, you will need to go as soon as possible to the religious ed. office to receive important information and dated forms to be filled out. Our first Christmas play practice and meeting was on, November 8th. There will be two performances one on Saturday, December 17th at 10AM and the other is on Tuesday, December 20th at 7PM. If your child could not attend, but would like to still participate, please go to our office for more information. All are invited to participate.

REGIONAL CATHOLIC ELEMENTARY SCHOOLS NOW ACCEPTING

GOD’S TYM FOR HIGH SCHOOL TEENS God’s TYM our parish group for teens in high school (grades 9 through 12) meets each Sunday. It begins with Mass at 5PM followed by dinner and a meeting. All high school teens are welcome!!

PAPA FRANCISCO: LA INMACULADA CONCEPCION La fiesta de la Inmaculada nos hace contemplar a la Virgen que, por singular privilegio, ha sido preservada del pecado original desde su concepción. Aunque vivía en el mundo marcado por el pecado, no fue tocada por él: María es nuestra hermana en el sufrimiento, pero no en el mal ni en el pecado. Es más, el mal en ella fue derrotado antes aún de rozarla, porque Dios la ha llenado de gracia (cf. Lc 1, 28). La Inmaculada Concepción significa que María es la primera salvada por la infinita misericordia del Padre, como primicia de la salvación que Dios quiere donar a cada hombre y mujer, en Cristo. Por esto la Inmaculada se ha convertido en icono sublime de la misericordia divina que ha vencido el pecado. Y nosotros, hoy, al inicio del Jubileo de la Misericordia, queremos mirar a este icono con amor confiado y contemplarla en todo su esplendor, imitándola en la fe. En la concepción inmaculada de María estamos invitados a reconocer la aurora del mundo nuevo, transformado por la obra salvadora del Padre y del Hijo y del Espíritu Santo. La aurora de la nueva creación realizada por la divina misericordia. Por esto la Virgen María, nunca contagiada por el pecado está siempre llena de Dios, es madre de una humanidad nueva. Es madre del mundo recreado. Celebrar esta fiesta comporta dos cosas. La primera: acoger plenamente a Dios y su gracia misericordiosa en nuestra vida. La segunda: convertirse a su vez en artífices de misericordia a través de un camino evangélico. La fiesta de la Inmaculada deviene la fiesta de todos nosotros si, con nuestros «síes» cotidianos, somos capaces de vencer nuestro egoísmo y hacer más feliz la vida de nuestros hermanos, de donarles esperanza, secando alguna lágrima y dándoles un poco de alegría. A imitación de María, estamos llamados a convertirnos en portadores de Cristo y testigos de su amor, mirando en primer lugar a los que son privilegiados a los ojos de Jesús. Son quienes Él mismo nos indicó: «Tuve hambre y me disteis de comer, tuve sed y me disteis de beber, fui forastero y me hospedasteis, estuve desnudo y me vestisteis, enfermo y me visitasteis, en la cárcel y vinisteis a verme» (Mt 25, 35-36).

PAPAL REFLECTIONS The Lord gives us the grace and joy of opening the new Liturgical Year, starting with its first season: Advent, the period that commemorates the coming of God among us. During the Season of Advent we shall feel the Church which takes us by the hand and — in the image of Mary Most Holy, expresses her motherhood, enabling us to experience the joyful expectation of the coming of the Lord, who embraces us all in his love that saves and consoles. While our hearts look forward to the annual celebration of Christ’s Birth, the Church’s Liturgy directs our gaze to the final goal: our encounter with the Lord who will come in the splendor of glory. For this reason in every Eucharist we “announce his death, proclaim his Resurrection until he comes again”, we watch in prayer. The beginning of the Liturgical Year helps us live anew the expectation of God who took flesh in the womb of the Virgin Mary, God who makes himself little, who becomes a child; it speaks to us of the coming of a God who is close, who chose to experience human life from the very beginning in order to save it totally, in its fullness. And so the mystery of Lord’s Incarnation and the beginning of human life are closely and harmoniously connected and in tune with each other in the one saving plan of God, the Lord of the life of each and every one. The Incarnation reveals to us, with intense light and in a surprising way, that every human life has a very lofty and incomparable dignity.

PARISH MASS BOOK

Our parish Mass book for 2017 will open at 9:00AM this Thursday, December 8th, in the rectory. Having a Mass offered for a beloved deceased person, for the needs of a living person or in thanksgiving for some favor or blessing is a practice that goes back centuries.

The Women’s Group of St. Peter and St. Mary’s Parish would like to thank everyone who supported our Right to Life Baby Drive this past October. The response was the best it has ever been. The mothers and staff at Good Counsel Home were deeply touched and grateful. God bless each of you for your generosity.

REFLECCIONES DEL PAPA El Señor nos da la gracia y la alegría de abrir el nuevo Año litúrgico iniciando con su primera etapa: el Adviento, el período que conmemora la venida de Dios entre nosotros. Durante el tiempo de Adviento sentiremos que la Iglesia nos toma de la mano y, a imagen de María santísima, manifiesta su maternidad haciéndonos experimentar la espera gozosa de la venida del Señor, que nos abraza a todos en su amor que salva y consuela. Mientras nuestros corazones se disponen a la celebración anual del nacimiento de Cristo, la liturgia de la Iglesia orienta nuestra mirada hacia la meta definitiva: el encuentro con el Señor que vendrá en el esplendor de la gloria. Por eso nosotros que en cada Eucaristía «anunciamos su muerte, proclamamos su resurrección, a la espera de su venida», vigilamos en oración. El comienzo del Año litúrgico nos hace vivir nuevamente la espera de Dios que se hace carne en el seno de la Virgen María, de Dios que se hace pequeño, se hace niño; nos habla de la venida de un Dios cercano, que ha querido recorrer la vida del hombre, desde los comienzos, y esto para salvarla totalmente, en plenitud. Así, el misterio de la encarnación del Señor y el inicio de la vida humana están íntima y armónicamente conectados entre sí dentro del único designio salvífico de Dios, Señor de la vida de todos y de cada uno. La Encarnación nos revela con intensa luz y de modo sorprendente que toda vida humana tiene una dignidad altísima, incomparable.

LIBRO DE MISAS DE LA PARROQUIA Nuestro libro de la misa para el año 2017 estará disponible el jueves, 8 de diciembre a las 9:00 am en la rectoría ofrecer misas por los difuntos, y por los vivos, ya sea por nuestras necesidades, o en acción de gracias por una bendición o favor recibido; es una práctica que existe en la Iglesia por muchos siglos.

El Grupo de Mujeres de San Pedro y la Parroquia de Santa María quiere agradecer a todos los que han apoyado nuestro derecho a la vida el pasado mes de octubre, la unidad del bebé.
