POPE FRANCIS: EASTER After listening to the Word of God from this Gospel passage, there are three things that I would like to say. First: the announcement. There is an announcement: the Lord has risen; that announcement which traveled by word of mouth ever since the early days of Christianity: it was a greeting: The Lord has risen. And the women who went to anoint the Lord’s body were met by a surprise. The surprise.... God’s announcements always bring surprises because our God is the God of surprises. Second: haste. The women run, they hasten to say: “But we have found this!”. God’s surprises place us on a journey, immediately, without delay. And so they run to see. Peter and John run. …It still happens today. In our neighborhoods, in the villages, when something extraordinary happens, people run to see; they go in haste…Surprises, good news are always announced in this manner: in haste. the third thing I wish to mention to you today is a question: “What about me? Do I have a heart that is open to God’s surprises; am I capable of going in haste or do I persist with the refrain: “well, I’ll see tomorrow, tomorrow, tomorrow?”. What does the surprise tell me?

PAPA FRANCISCO: LA PASCUA

Después de la escucha de la Palabra de Dios, de este paso del Evangelio, me nace decir tres cosas. Primero: el anuncio. Ahí hay un anuncio: el Señor ha resucitado. Este anuncio que desde los primeros tiempos de los cristianos iba de boca en boca; era el saludo: el Señor ha resucitado. Y las mujeres, que fueron a ungir el cuerpo del Señor, se encontraron frente a una sorpresa. La sorpresa... Los anuncios de Dios son siempre sorpresas, porque nuestro Dios es el Dios de las sorpresas. Segundo: la prisa. Las mujeres corren, van deprisa a decir: «¡Pero hemos encontrado esto!». Las sorpresas de Dios nos ponen en camino, inmediatamente, sin esperar. Y así corren para ver. Y Pedro y Juan corren. También hoy sucede. En nuestros barrios, en los pueblos cuando sucede algo extraordinario, la gente corre a ver. Las sorpresas, las buenas noticias, se dan siempre así: deprisa. Lo tercero que yo quisiera decir hoy es una pregunta: «¿Y yo qué? ¿Tengo el corazón abierto a las sorpresas de Dios? ¿Soy capaz de ir deprisa, o siempre con esa cantilena, “veré mañana, mañana”? ¿Qué me dice a mí la sorpresa?».

GOOD NEWS REFLECTION: CHRIST'S VICTORY

FOR YOUR CROSSES Alleluia! Celebrate the healing and increased faith that comes from growing closer to Jesus through the faith-building exercises of Lent and the solemn meditations of Holy Week! The doorway into heaven is the cross. Experiencing the glory of the celebration of Easter -- deep within our hearts, within our needs, within our desires -- began with accepting our sorrows and sacrifices and sufferings are our own personal connections to Jesus. And now, Easter joy comes not only from accepting what Jesus did for you on the cross but also from continuing the journey, side by side, step by step with Jesus. When we're sincere about following Christ, if we truly want to grow in faith, we do whatever he does, united to his ministry of helping others grow in their eternal relationship with God. In this, we face the cross again and again. There is no gain in salvation without the pain of sacrificial love. The victorious alleluia of Easter is the triumph of the cross. It's the realization that life doesn't have to be free of troubles in order to be full of joy. It's the day-to-day living out of a faith that comes from trusting that God is carrying us through the trials and bringing good out of bad. Our cross is a soft word that we speak when someone else is angry and we feel like shouting. Our cross is a hand outstretched to comfort the afflicted when it's inconvenient and we feel like withdrawing. Our cross is a good deed that we do to those who treat us unjustly and we feel like retaliating. And our resurrection is the joy that comes from knowing that we have made a difference in the lives of others for the sake of God's kingdom. Love that's given when it's difficult is a suffering love, a passionate love, a salvific love, i.e., it benefits the eternal lives of others. Then, our sacrifices have a value of endless worth. This is so much better than a self-serving, easy life. It's eternally better! Easter Sunday Mass is the celebration of rising with Jesus into glorious victory over evil. What sacrifices are you suffering from right now? Write Jesus a love letter that connects your pain to his pain on the cross, then rest quietly with him as if you were sharing his tomb with him. When you're ready to rise from your chair, celebrate that God appreciates all you have done for his kingdom; this is your resurrection! Describe the time when a bad experience turned into something good. What did you learn from it about God or faith? REFLEXIÓN DE LAS BUENAS NUEVAS: LA VICTORIA DE CRISTO PARA TUS CRUCES

¡Aleluya! ¡Celebra la sanación y la fe que aumentan, gracias al acercamiento a Jesús mediante los ejercicios Cuaresmales que edifican nuestra fe y las meditaciones solemnes de Semana Santa! La puerta al cielo es la cruz. Experimentar la gloria de la celebración de la Pascua -- en lo más profundo de nuestros corazones, en nuestras necesidades, en nuestros deseos -- comenzó con la aceptación de que nuestras penas, sacrificios y sufrimientos son nuestras conexiones personales a Jesús. Y ahora la alegría Pascual no viene sólo de aceptar lo que Jesús hizo por ti en la cruz, sino también por continuar nuestro camino lado a lado, paso a paso con Jesús. Cuando somos sinceros con respecto a seguir a Cristo, si realmente queremos crecer en la fe, hacemos lo que sea que haya hecho Él, unidos a su ministerio de ayudar a los demás a crecer en su relación eterna con Dios. En esto nos enfrentamos a la cruz una y otra vez. No ganamos nada para la salvación sin el dolor del amor sacrificado. El aleluya victorioso de la Pascua es el triunfo de la cruz. Es darnos cuenta de que la vida no tiene que estar libre de problemas para estar llena de alegría. Es poder vivir día a día de una fe que surge de confiar en que Dios nos lleva en sus brazos a través de tribulaciones y que saca algo bueno de lo malo. Nuestra cruz es una palabra suave que decimos cuando alguien está enojado y, en realidad, nos dan ganas de gritar. Nuestra cruz es una mano extendida para aliviar al afligido cuando es inconveniente y, en realidad, nos dan ganas de alejarnos. Nuestra cruz es algo bueno que le hacemos a aquellos que nos tratan injustamente, pero, en realidad, nos dan ganas de tomar represalias. Y nuestra resurrección es la alegría que proviene de saber que hemos hecho una diferencia en las vidas de los demás para el reino de Dios. El amor que es dado cuando es difícil darlo, es un amor sufriente, un amor apasionado, un amor que salva, es decir, trae beneficios a la vida eterna de los demás. Luego, nuestros sacrificios tienen un valor eterno. Esto es mucho mejor que una vida fácil y en beneficio propio. ¡Es eternamente mejor!
